FA 2019 - Who Should the Bills Target?

Bell is interesting. You aren't getting him unless you overpay. On the other hand you'd be hard pressed to find a better single player to spend the money on. You'd probably be able to spend the money more efficiently on depth pieces that help fill holes.

this post got buried-

5 year plan-

Trade Shady for a 3rd.  Trade KB and Clay each for a 7th. Shed cap.  Add draft picks. Tank this year. I call Arizona about Peterson.  If a 3 and 4 do it, I make that deal.

Draft round 1 Bosa or Oliver

2- Anthony Johnson

Then we would have two 3rd round picks, two 4th round picks, two 5th round picks, one 6th round pick, and four 7th round picks.  Spend every pick on offense-WR, TE, OL, RB, QB- draft all 5 positions and draft often.  I want 8 new starters on offense next season.

FA- I target WRs Tyrell Williams and Tyler Locket.  I offer big contracts to Taylor Lewan and Jake Mathews, Shaq Mason, Mitch Morse- I hope to get OL 2 starters in free agency. I make an offer to injured Jason Verrett.

Years 2-5 Hold on to draft picks.  Trade down.  Draft BPA.  Target OL,QB, DL, CB with majority of picks.  Circle the wagons.  Count your rings

I like to concentrate on strengths of players rather then the names...the names too often are attached the dollar signs

Give me a solid LT.....move Dawkins to LG (solving that spot).....bring in a free agent center......move let Teller and a Draft pick duke it out over RG......Mills can stay unless beat out by somebody which seems to never happen.   That gives me 2 OG's and hopefully a center that can actually pull and get out and block on screens.

Give me Golden Tate......and the rest of the WR help should come via the draft...Zay Jones stay as the number 3

With Shady being traded...give me TJ Yeldon....keep Ivory and Marcus Murphy

Draft a pass rusher.....draft another QB.......with the latter picks in the draft draft best player available

i like it..... i would draft a rt high or fa....i'm wanting better than mills. i think miller would be fine at rg if it wasn't for mills. i would plug , or try to...teller at lg.

therefore i'm drafting rt and c/g in rds. 1-3...anticipating move down.

i would sign fa center and possibly the best rt available or draft one high.  two good picks and 2 free agents. improve now and get young guys in the pipeline.

i would trade down in the 1st, possibly get another 2 and 3.  i would then take the 2 5's and 2 7's and move up.

John Brown in my opinion is a solid number 3 WR but more so a complementary piece to a WR unit, if he is your number 3 WR you are in a good spot. I wouldn't hesitate to sign him esp if Zay doesn't finish the season strong but Tate to me is a difference maker as a high end WR 2. Tate has been a model citizen and a pretty beloved teammate in Detroit, so I don't think there are any character issues there. As far as the interior OL players Saffold is a bit older and the Rams are up against the cap so it makes sense that he could hit the market. Paradis is interesting as the Broncos while not up against the cap aren't in a great cap position either. So 50/50 as to wither or not he will be franchise tagged or not.

I would love to see the Bills go hard after Tate, Paradis, and Saffold as a base to rebuild the offense. After those 3 big time starting pieces are added you can then add complementary pieces like Brown but considering how devoid of talent the offense is and just how much development Allen needs the team needs to in my mind add at least 3-4 impact starters to the offense via free agency and then add at least 2 more via the draft. I am not sure if this is how McBeane will go about it (I do expect one major impact addition along the interior O-Line and 1-2 vet WR's added but 2 big time free agents like Paradis and Saffold is wishful thinking.)

I hope that McBeane isn't going to use "Build Through the Draft" as an excuse for a lackluster free agency period. I am not saying that the team has to spend all 94-110 million (110 is the max the team can have if they cut Shady and several other contracts that aren't productive players) but they need to infuse the offense with a lot of talent, much more talent then spending one drafts worth of players on. You have to add multiple starters to the offense and you might need to fill a need on defense if the right talent falls at the right price.

Hmm, I think John Brown is better than a 3rd WR. He had a 1,000 yard season last year and is putting up good stats this year too. I would be happy with him as our #2.

I agree with everything else, though. Just hope there are some decent olinemen who actually hit free agency.

I think he has shown that he is not a team first guy, so I would be surprised if McDermott would want him. Plus, Bell wants way more than what his market value is.

I find it highly unlikely that we'll get a 3rd for McCoy. I bet most are offering a 5th. We'd be lucky to scrape a 4th from a team, cby which point I think his is more valuable on the team. But we'll see what happens.

I'd personally pursue Quincy Enunwa, Jermaine Kearse, John Brown, and Tyrell Williams. I think Buffalo will actually pursue Tyrell and Adam Humphries.

I could get behind that. Those are all solid #2 WR's. We'll need to find a true #1 in the draft at some point, though.

John Brown had a 1,000 yard reviving season back in 2015 when Palmer had that MVP like season. In 2016 and 2017 he had 517 and 299 yard seasons. This year Brown is crushing it no doubt but I would rather pay Tate the more consistent veteran than Brown. Ideally I wouldn't mind grabbing both but even with the current level of cap space you do still have to make cuts somewhere. If they went with Brown as a WR 2 I wouldn't hate the move esp if he continues his strong play this year.

I'm a big fan of Enunwa, but I can't see it happening unless we drastically overpay. The Jets have a young QB and tons of cap space.

We're probably gonna have to overpay anyways, but that one seems unlikely.

For those talking about John Brown, we offered him a contract this year and he turned us down. Why would 2019 be any different?

We had virtually no money to spend.

I like where your head is. Matthews resigned with Falcons.

i would take Coleman from the Dirty Birds. Falcons can’t resign him and he is a good pass catcher and runner from the backfield. Coleman with a change of pace back would be a good pick up.

Other than Kyle and Lo, there isn't a player on that list that couldn't easily be replaced. None of them would be missed.

Trade Clay for a 7th??? That's a really dumb move. I know he fumbled, but he's a better than average TE and you'll move him to draft a player that probably won't even make the roster? This is why you aren't a GM.

Free Agency? Doesn't mean a thing at this point in 2018 when many of the premium guys will never hit the open market.

Exactly,  most of the quality guys won't even be available.  The wr fa list is weak. We'll have $90M to spend on very little offensively.

Randall Cobb is similar to Tate and could likely be signed for less. Plus Tate has a poor teammate reputation from Seattle. I like Tyrell Williams and don’t understand the Chargers use of him.  When K.Allen was out, Tyrell looked very good.

TWill would be a great addition but i think he will get potentially 15mil per yr. With the cap going up Wrs are getting paid.
