Tales From a Socialist Utopia

Recommended Posts

Like every other failed (read: every other. full stop) Leftist idea, socialism is based on a principle of "give up some freedom for more security."  To riff on Ben Franklin a bit, a man who gives up liberty for security deserves neither and is not a man.

Up here in Canada the Liberal government annually bails out the national TV, radio and huge print media in return for 100% ass-kissing by the CBC and Toronto Star and Globe and Mail.

Socialism, even in its best forms, as in Canada, really sucks.

Social Utopia?  I thought this would be about some form of an AI

in 3rd world countries the poor are literally dirt poor.

Venezuela was a healthy and established democracy, with and emerging economy, and was the wealthiest country in South America prior to it's socialist revolution.

Now it's children fight with machetes for garbage.

So does Peru.  I have driven outside of the Lima city limits and I have seen first hand the poverty that exists.

What they claim as Middle class people  - in their driveway there are 5 cars, 3 of which are lambo's.

I've worked on practically every continent and I have worked outside of the big cities.    I have seen the poverty.

Poverty exists on a wide scale because Peru has only recently (in the 1990's) thrown off their centrally planned economy.  Since they have, it has been one of the most steadily growing economies in the world, with it's inhabitants standard of living considered "upper-middle" globally.  Only 10% of their population lives in what the World Bank describes as extreme poverty.

This is markedly different than what Venezuela is experiencing.

Who was in charge of the government when the Patriot Act was passed?
