His value is the same no matter what. if his value straight up is a 4th, and the Bills would rather trade him than trade a 4th, and the other team needs a LT and would rather have him than a mid round draft pick, and no other team has a starting caliber LT to offer up as part of a package (likely), his value is higher in a package as a “sweetener”. Same reason why Washington’s offer of throwing in the CB with the 3rd allowed them to succeed in the Alex smith trade over the Browns, who had no starting caliber CB to offer. I'll even go so far to say that Cordy playing either guard position makes the line better. Without a doubt there are many factors that have to be considered related to health and contract. But losing him creates another hole while keeping him bolsters a line that needs bolstering. Unless he is used as a chip to acquire a qb I would prefer to keep him. When he was healthy he was one of the better tackles in the NFL. The odds of getting a starter in the 4th round or lower are terrible. This gambling addition rampant among the TBD posters is amazing. Our O line is already a major concern and weakness on the team. Weakening it further is foolish. You want to bring in a rookie QB and destroy his potential behind a turnstyle O-line. With him gone your oline has a good but aging LG, that just lost their anchoring center, and an up and coming Tackle coming off his rookie year. There is no guarantee Dawkins will continue his growth, especially if you throw him on a line with more rookies and marginally talented players. Teams are trading players to free up cap room, and they're accepting low compensation to do so. Pro Bowl CB Talib for a 5th? Ogletree nets a 4th and 6th.
