"Just being able to come in and help somebody who wants me here, it was a good thing. It's all I ever wanted, really, and I got it here.” – #Bills CB E.J. Gaines feels at home in Buffalo – and hopes it stays that way.

Gaines got jerked around quite a bit in St. Louis and he is now in a place where people believe in him and with a scheme that really fits what he does well. I think the only way he doesn't come back is if someone offers him some ridiculous Gilmore type money.

Unrestricted Free Agents

QB Joe Webb - could go either way, better be cheap.

RB Mike Tolbert - gone
RB Travaris Cadet - JAG, replace with a cheap rookie
RB Taiwan Jones - gone

WR Deonte Thompson - would resign on the cheap, otherwise gone
WR Jordan Matthews - resign if healthy, price is right
WR Brandon ate - gone
WR Jeremy Butler - gone

OT Seantrel Henderson - gone

DL Kyle Williams - retiring?
DL Cedric Thornton - would resign on the cheap, otherwise gone

LB Preston Brown - gone
LB Ramon Humber - gone

CB EJ Gaines - Would like back, but what is his market like?
CB Leonard Johnson - would resign on the cheap, otherwise gone
CB Shareece Wright - gone

S Colt Anderson - gone
S Shamarko Thomas - gone

Exclusive Rights Free Agents

TE Nick O’Leary - would resign on the cheap, otherwise gone
TE Logan Thomas - gone

DE Eddie Yarbrough - would resign on the cheap, otherwise gone

CB Lafayette Pitts - gone

It's encouraging that most of these are replacement/rotational type guys.  The only two we would really miss would be Kyle and Gaines.  Kyle we may have no control over if he retires, and Gaines might be striking it rich on the free agent market.  I would resign one of Deonte Thompson/Jordan Matthews if for no other reason to have some continuity in the WR room to go with Benjamin/Jones.

That would be a serious risk for any team given his inability to stay healthy and in the lineup on a weekly basis.

I agree.  Hopefully something reasonable can be worked out with the Bills, but if not there are teams with a lot of cap to burn and he plays a position that gets paid high dollars (Stephon Gilmore anyone?).

what about maybe jerrik mckinnon coming in via free agency?  Mccoy wont be around for much longer and mckinnon has the skill set just not all 3 downs like mccoy.  Any thoughts?

I had also thought about this. Likely we will bring in two running backs, but one will certainly have to play special teams.

I think a good route would be add a FA RB and draft one in the mid rounds since this is a deep RB class.

McKinnon is a good back, and FA RB's just don't usually get huge pay days. Would like to see him in a Bills uniform. Other options, patriots have both Burkhead and Lewis as FA's, can they keep them both? Wouldn't mind prying one of them away from. Carlos Hyde would be a different type of back to McCoy, but I don't think he has shown enough to be relied on to be a future starter here.

I’d pick Gaines as the only one that I’d really keep.  The other players won’t hurt to lose any of them.  Yeah that includes Kyle cause i believe he retires.

If the Bills end up not signing Gaines they have to be thinking about keeping some of last years Safety/Cornerback depth going into camp.

As it is now only Hyde and White are signed.

Who we bring to camp and who makes the team is two different questions.

They should definitely keep Jordan Matthews.  I'm not going to condemn him because of injuries and 1 season with Tyrod.

There's no need to have him on the roster with Zay Jones around for the foreseeable future with both of them best suited to fill the role of slot receiver.

Matthews is an average, slow WR with questionable hands.

Jordan Matthews is age 25 and was very productive before he got to Buffalo.

Chalk that up to rookie season struggles.

Zay is our #2, despite the fanbase's lack of patience.

Jordan Matthews' skillset is redundant and unnecessary to our WR corps. Zay will have to earn his #2 spot back. Expect at least 1 FA pickup at WR, maybe a mid round draft pick as well.
