...  Buffalo needs to get a veteran QB if they can, and draft one too.  If they can trade Tyrod, great.  I don't know if Peterman will develop or not.  Right now it looks to me as if he doesn't respect the skills of NFL defensive backs enough, and tries to throw into windows that are too small sometimes.  I think that can probagbly be corrected with coaching, but I don't know.

we have extremes with both players. the former being too afraid to throw into tight windows. the latter not afraid to throw into too tight windows. being the former is a 7 year vet, he will not change. the latter is a rook so the possibility that he may learn and adapt is still present.

as you say, hopefully we can trade Tyrod in some capacity, hell even a 6th rounder is preferable to just outright releasing him. i would be all for signing a descent vet such as Smith which should be able to be had for a 2nd and maybe less if we trade multiple picks. then i would use one of our 1st's to draft a qb as long as whoever is there is thought to have potential at the pro-level. i would even trade up a few spots to get a guy we wanted as long as we didn't have to trade to far up which would thereby cost us more in draft stock than i would prefer.

So Glenn will fully recover from the injury, be happy with being moved to RT, and successfully make that transition? Or he could do all that?

I'm willing to part with a guy who has a considerable injury history and would be vastly overpaid to play RT.

Where are you getting $60 million in cap space? I've only seen a little over $30 million.

(https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/buffalo-bills/) - $32,578,305

(http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap/) - $31,336,937

They don't need to get rid of Glenn, but they do need a QB, HB2, DTs, LBs, and possibly a WR, OG, DE, and CB.

Well, I do think Glenn is likely to recover, but let me summarize it this way:

I think that the likelihood of Glenn recovering and being fine playing RT for LT money is far greater than the team getting good trade value for Glenn and subsequently finding his replacement in an inexpensive player.

As for $60M, Spotrac currently says $30M, but that's assuming that the cap doesn't increase from 2017. It most certainly will, to a likely $175M+, so without any movement you're at $40M.

Tyrod's release puts them at $50M, and I'm assuming guys like Ducasse and Hughes will be gone.

So maybe $60M is a slight exaggeration, but only slight.

Of course, if they part ways with either Richie or Mills, then they could actually have more than $60M in space with Glenn on the roster.

I'd take Mason Rudolph with the 1st pick, with the other 1st I'd trade down and pick up an extra 2nd and 3rd, then I'd send Kansas City one of our 2nds for Alex Smith that's contingent on a contract extension being signed, something like 4 years 72 million for Smith, sit Rudolph on the bench until Smith retires.

1.) Mason Rudolph

1.) Trade

2.) To KC for Alex Smith

2.) Extra pick

2.) Extra pick

3.) Extra pick

3.) Extra pick

I have not read all the posts, so I trust others have flamed you. It will only take a 2nd to get Smith. No way any team offers a 1st, even if desperate for a QB. KC has no choice. Take the 2nd or let him walk in a year.

Best case scenario

#21- Roqun Smith MLB

#22- Vita Vea DT

2nd rd

#53 - Christian Kirk WR

#56- Sony Michel RB

Also make a couple trades or signing before draft.

Trade for Alex Smith  or sign Cousins for QB.

I hear Robert Quinn might be cut i say trade a late pk for him.

Not sure why people think Roquan Smith will be around at 21.  He won't; unless there are red flags all over the place.

Who is this other tackle that is not only solid, but both inexpensive and a guarantee to come here?

Because Glenn is young, very good, and under contract for multiple seasons

We're talking about a bird in the hand here

...agree....what's the rush if he comes back healthy post surgery?......is it that critical if you switch him to the right side and he's > average RT pay?......isn't the left side cheaper with Dawkins so that LT/RT expenditure balances out?.....maybe you get a couple of extra years without him having to be on the blind side.............

Where did I say we should give a 1st for Smith?

I said draft Mason Rudolph with #1. Take the other #1 and TRADE DOWN. Then we would have 3 #2s and 2 #3s. Send one of the three 2nds for Alex Smith.

#21 - Rashaan Evans - LB

#22 - Mike McGlinchey - OT

Bills then trade:  2nd round pick (#53) and 3rd round pick (#95) to Eagles or Minnesota for their first round pick #29.

#29 - Lamar Jackson - QB

I guess I just think between FA and draft, we could find a RT for cheaper than $14 million.

I'm. Not. Looking. For. Cheaper.

I have said repeatedly that I am more interested in having the best pair of tackles that I can have, because cap space is not a concern for this team.

"We might be able to do almost as well for less money" isn't a good reason to get rid of Glenn for what's almost certain to be a below-market return.

And although I've said that Hubbard would be a decent FA option (at guard; he's better suited inside IMO), he's not in Glenn's ballpark as a player.

I think I've said my piece on this one.

Enjoy the games today!

We just disagree then.

I see cap space as very important for a team with questions at pretty much every position, especially if we end up having to package a lot of our extra picks to move up for a QB, which I think could happen and would keep us from filling more roster holes.

I'd rather have an average RT for average RT starting money ($5-7 million), probably get a pick for Glenn, and save that extra $7-9 million for another starter or few depth players.

Alternatively, a starting RT may be found in round 3 or 4.

You are as certain that the OT we could bring in would be "below-market return" as I am that Glenn's injuries will continue to prevent him from playing - we both don't know. Glenn would be below market return if he was not clearly the best RT in the NFL and healthy all year because no starting RT is making more than an average of $8 million per year.

Well, the only thing I can add here is that there are indeed RTs making more than $8M AAV.

According to Spotrac, Lane Johnson is getting $11.25M and Ricky Wagner $9.5M.

Also, there's some duality in that final thought: if you feel confident that Glenn won't heal, how can you expect to get a market-level return?

Anyway, we're likely to just keep going round and round on this, so in the interest of not thread jacking any worse than I already have I'll bow out

Apologies, I had scrolled down and cut off Johnson and Wagner. Still, you'd need Glenn to play as the best RT in the league by a margin of $2.75 million to be worth it.

I'm not saying I'm confident that Glenn won't heal. I'm saying that both the return of a mid-round or FA OT (both cheaper by far) and Glenn's injury are tough to predict.

Still, if Glenn ends up continuing to miss games, then paying him $14 million is going to bad for this team.

Lots of people still want to build a team and basically ignore QB, that has worked so well in the past...

Taking the best QB at your available spot generally = JP Losman 4th best QB talent...

didn't they actually trade up for losman? seems like they missed out on an earlier trade for roethlisburger and ended up jumping back into the first for jp.

Yes they did actually trade up and that cost us Rodgers the next season; they also were not able to complete a trade to move in front of Pitts for Ben

At the end of the day we moved up for the 4th best QB in the draft...

How about Glenn comes back nice and healthy,  Dawkins slides over to RT where he was drafted for (with a full off-season of training in that spot), and we have a nice solid tandem of tackles to protect whoever is our QB for a few years? That is what I'm hoping for personally.....
