Best and Worst Travel Experiences

Recommended Posts

For you personally, what are your best and worst experiences with rooting for your team as the visitor? As a fan of the Bills, or others?

For me, I've been to two Texans home games to root for the Bills. Other than one guy trying instigate a fight by flicking the brim of my hat (which I ignored), mostly neutral reactions. Went to New Orleans to see the Bills play the Saints. One guy was an obnoxious jerk the whole game. The rest of the fans were surprisingly pleasant. Those who saw the guy I complained about, came up and apologized on his behalf to let him know that's not a depiction of the whole fan base. Others would randomly come up to me and suggest restaurants, sites to see, etc.

When Houston had an AHL team, I went to root for the Americans, because they were the Sabres farm team. I'd actually never been to an Americks game in my life, so I only own Sabres. Most of the crowd weren't really hockey fans, so they thought I was just being that one jerk that thinks it's funny to root for the other team. Cool thing was though that I sat in front of the parents of the guy that scored the game winning goal in a shootout.

In terms of worst NFL travel experiences, I got harrassed and almost into it in the old Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego.  A few REAL drunks behind me.  Someone called in security and escorted the gentlemen out.

In terms of worst OVERALL travel experiences, I got the pneumonic plague in India, and was tear gassed and shot at in a riot in Spain.

So, it's really just a game, you know?

Seattle Monday Nighter last  season. People bought me beers, invited my friend and I to a party after the game and were generally awesome. And I was fully decked out in Bills gear. Great fans in Seattle.

Best travel experience for me is when I go back to Buffalo for a game. Next time I hope to make Hammers Lot to raise the bar.

Beside that, I really enjoyed Nashville. We have a son there, so maybe I’m biased, but nice stadium and fantastic location across the pedestrian bridge from a very cool downtown. Post game was a blast! Great city!

Worst is not even close....Oakland!  They cannot move that team soon enough.  The stadium is horrible and the fans are worse. I will NEVER go back there again, the City fathers (along with the league) should all be ashamed.

Best road experience is pretty much ch everywhere else, including London, which was a total blast!

I've been to Buffalo, New England, Miami, Houston, Tennessee, Jacksonville, San Diego (in 2 weeks I'm going to LA), Cincinnati, Oakland, Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago, New Orleans, Seattle, Arizona and LA Rams.

Each place is different and I have fond memories from every single trip. The only place where we had problems with the opponent fans was in Miami.

Have been to prolly 50 road games over the years.

Worst experience was in 87 in the LA Colisium for a Raiders game. Douche bags were actually giving my 67 year old mom **** for wearing Bills gear. Whole atmosphere from tailgate to game experience just flat out sucked.

Lot it of great experiences, New Orleans right up there. Baltimore is always a ton of fun. I️ actually have a good time in Philly at the couple of games I️ have attended.

It's pretty sad but you are putting your safety on the line by wearing BILLS gear at road locations.  This is especially true if you're not in a group.  I've had bad experiences at Seattle and San Diego.   Not worried about San Diego anymore!  The Seattle problem was in the King Dome, I have to believe that it could be worse, now that they have been successful at the outdoor stadium.

San Diego was bad. Only been to the 1 game there, Rob Johnson Vs Ryan Leaf in his very first game for the Chargers, and you are right, not a great experience.

I’ve done about 1/3 of the stadiums so my frame of reference isn’t as big as many of you. With that being said New England was terrible. They know so little about football it was appalling. I haven’t been there in about 5 years sp

maybe it’s changed but the times I went were pathetic. In general I have a good time on the road because you meet up with a bunch of excited Bills fans. The road is a party. New England is not.

I have a good time at the NE games Kirby, but its cause i actually like the city of Boston a ton. Stay downtown, take the train right to the stadium. People have all actually been very nice to me and family/friends. Much better experience now than it was at Shaeffer Stadium for sure

I love Boston; i went to school there. The football atmosphere is more what I’m referring to. It just isn’t fun like other places. Patriot place is okay I guess but I’m general it’s a stale atmosphere with a bunch of M!@#$s that know nothing about football.

I had one of the best and one of the worst on the same trip. 1988 or so to Chicago, a truly great city.

First week of October. The Bills were 4-0 and on a roll, playing the Bears. Me and about nine friends all went. We hit a Cubs game on Saturday afternoon, the Bills game on Sunday afternoon and a Blackhawks game on Sunday night. We had an absolute blast in Chicago on Friday and Saturday night. Great day at Wrigley.

And then the Bills got killed.

They didn't score a TD. They had like zero yards rushing. Very few first downs. Never really got going the entire game. It sucked. Ha.

Didnt really even enjoy the hockey game at night because we were all miserable.

We’ve spent a lot of time in Boston. Last summer I was there for a week while Mrs Augie was working there. The old Deflate Gate/Fumble Chart I have stored on my phone almost got me into a few rumbles. No one seemed to appreciate the facts.  ;)

I love Boston. Great city. Spent a ton of time there. A lot of great people, too, unless you talk sports with them.
