Companies are starting to take sides with protests

Recommended Posts

Polling data shows that majority of Americans agree that taking a knee during the national anthem is disrespectful and not the time for protest.

Every time a player takes a knee it's helping Trump politically. Let that sink in

It's over 70% of Americans. Thats why protesters are being heavily booed.

And Villanueva has the highest selling jersey right now.

Just sayin'

The NFL is doing a fine job of killing itself all by itself. Doesn't need any help. Over the top commercialization, out of sight compensation, 22 minutes of action in a 3 hour event, alcohol-soaked stadiums: now its a national protest platform; its all pretty much going in the wrong direction slowly.

Well put. If anything, the protests are many viewers "last straw". I didn't get as much publicity, but Trump also complained about what many others complain about.... flags, refs, taking hitting out of the game, etc....

Let's also recognize NFLs "selective" free speech. No to breast cancer awareness, no to 9/11 remembrance, no to supporting slain police, but this is ok. If they were consistent this would not be as big an issue either.

If you think this is going to have any long lasting affect on the NFL you are mistaken. All those people burning their tickets and jerseys and flags are going to be back in a the next few weeks if not next week and they will feel like idiots. These people want to feel like they are a part of something and also want the attention (Else they wouldn't post it on facebook)

As soon as the media has something else to report on this will become a non-story.

I don't think the protest will have a "long term effect" by themselves, but my point is it is another on a long list of things the NFL has done to alienate fans. Some fans will never come back, and many people aren't driven by the media.

The NFL is a deteriorating brand, that is the truth. You can attibute it to many things, but the protest is one of those factors.

Trump says George Washington and Robert E Lee are the same. Many wave the Confederate flag and are angry with peaceful protests. Trump praises Nascar, which is a Confederate flag convention on most days. The hypocrisy of it all is what bothers me. Not the peaceful protest, even though I don't agree with it.

So when is the right time?

That's just it. The majority of people are not opposed to protesting, but the timing of it. Not only are they on the clock, but they are supposed to be paying tribute to those that have fought for our country. Its seen as disrespectful by many, and understandably so. Any other time would be a better moment to take the platform, but none would probably garner as much attention as this. That is probably why they do it, but it will come with a cost at which the price is still unknown.

True story.

Many people would support the protest against crooked cops, kkk, and WN if they didn't hijack something that is dear to their hearts in the process. WaPo was right, this is bad for everyone involved.

Is just plain, unfettered attention really helping their cause? I would argue no since it has been so diluted now people don't even know what they are protesting.

Did you watch/ listen to Skip and Shannon yesterday? Shannon Sharpe nailed it. This is not the protest the owners want the players to think it is, it's a protest against Trump telling the owners what to do. It's a financial protest. If it were truly a protest for unity and inclusion, why wouldn't thishave happened around so many other more truly important events and controversial statements and actions by Trump. The true stupidity of this protest is that it serves solely to create even further discord and division. If the NFL WAS SMART, everyone would have stood with arms locked together, showing both solidarity and respect.

Isn't 22 minutes a bit high??

Its amazing how even after the election people still think Trump operates with no strategy or purpose.

The guys career has been built on playing his audience.

Trump backed the owners into a corner. Once the players freaked out, the owners had no choice but stand with them. Edited by KD in CA

I tried explaining this to my wife (who'd vote Democrat if the devil himself was running) that this is the exact reaction he was looking for and they (the players) ignorantly obliged him.

The owners really didn't have a choice regardless of the players' reactions.

The President used threatening language related to their perfectly legal private business dealings, interjecting himself in a hostile way.

If the players hadnt reacted, the owners wouldnt have said a word. This mess is not good for business.
