Noone is worth a salary of $50million that is absolutely gross. You have people living in poverty and guys getting paid that much to run a sport? Disgusting.

.....highest paid commish whose sport has the shortest regular season among the other three....works out to $3.125 mil per game week of regular season.....and us poor working slobs pay 40 or 50 bucks for PARKING.....nice.......and choke on a $12 beer..............

Somebody please name the last thing Godell did that could in any way be labeled "executive managerial leadership performed as expected". I'm not talking beyond expectation. I'm not talking far surpassing expectation. Nope, just "as expected" for a CEO.

Can't do it. Hence if I was advising the NFL, hell, IF Godell was any other CEO, with a real board of directors, in any other business, he'd have been gone already. That's why CEO's make the big $$$. It doesn't matter what you did 2 years ago, or that you grew revenues over the last x years.

Nope, all that ever matters is the state of the business today, and, only an idiot or somebody with an ulterior motive, would look at Godell today and extend his contract.

There has been a pattern of leadership failure, even with the revenue increases. That merely means they should keep the CFO/VP of Marketing. Looking at this strictly as a business(which it is), Godell should be gone, especially given the anthem mess. It's sheer incompetence, based on weakness. The right thing to do was to kill this off last year, before it hurt the business. Small PR pitter-patter problem that could have been easily squashed with a fine and suspension, now  == 15-30% losses in revenue? That's not executive leadership. That's being a coward, and giving way to irrelevant pissants for no good reason.

Not ever, no way.  Godell should've been escorted out by security after the first week of the season.

EDIT:

Well, there's the argument ender: Fox is having the Navy do the anthem from the back of a destroyer(frigate? I'm Army so I do not care).

Take away the camera. Take away the issue. It's as simple as that. Somebody at NFL Media Relations has laid down the law.

Kneel, lock arms, hold hands, do the hokey-pokey, spank it....doesn't matter: nobody will be watching.

It's like a meeting: "Thank you all for your opinions, but the issue is now closed."

Saw these articles this morning regarding Rog's contract extension situation.  Good 'ol Roger values himself quite highly.  I don't see why he deserves:

Quote
  • Roger Goodell has reportedly demanded $50million a year, up from $30million
  • He also 'wants the use of a private jet for life and health insurance for his family'

Here are the relevant articles I read.  They're fairly concise so you won't spend a lot of time reading fluff.

UK based paper but extensively covers US news

Jerry Jones makes Goodell look like a paragon of virtue.

Completely agree here.  I've heard some interesting stories from a long time (since 1970s) Cowboys fan who has done business deals with Jerry Jones on the Star Complex.  Jerry is not a moral man.  I agree with Jerry that Roger needs to go, but for completely different reasons.

The NBA is crushing it with their president and tv deals. the nfl might just need a new figurehead to steer the league.  all anyone talks about is protests and suspensions and all this crap. and it would be hilarious to see jones lose his team. not that i have ill will towards him but it would sure be interesting

Arthur Blank statement

November 13, 2017
Statement from Arthur M. Blank on behalf of the NFL Compensation Committee
"The Committee is continuing its work towards finalizing a contract extension with the
Commissioner, consistent with the mandate provided in the unanimous May 2017 Resolution.
Regardless of what may have been reported, the Committee is working within the financial
parameters outlined to the ownership at the May meeting. The negotiations are progressing
and we will keep ownership apprised of the negotiations as they move forward. We do not
intend to publicly comment on our discussions.”

I really think this is a mistake.  It will go from Commissioner Goodell to King Goodell.

What's next..."Arthur Blank, you are a true friend of the crown Dilly! Dilly!"  "Jerry Jones, follow Sir Brad, he will give you a private tour of the Pit of Misery.  The Pit of Misery, Dilly! Dilly!

how funny that "private jet for life and health insurance for his family" are in the same sentence...

LOL

Yeah, I thought that was odd too.  The insurance request is like a tiny cherry on top of the most gigantic ice cream Sunday ever served.

How could Jones have played his hand so poorly?  It's stunning how badly he interpreted his power base in that small room of rich men.

Now his pants are down, he has one hand on the hot water handle and the other on the cold water handle and he can't believe how long the line behind his has gotten....

...and Goodell will be the caboose..

Finally, according to sources with direct knowledge of the call, Jones broke the silence. He aimed his words not only at Goodell's decision but also at his role as judge, jury and executioner in the case.

"I'm gonna come after you with everything I have," Jones said. Then he mentioned Deflategate. "If you think Bob Kraft came after you hard, Bob Kraft is a p---y compared to what I'm going to do."

Roger Goodell is in a battle few saw coming, with the league's membership teetering on an all-out, unprecedented civil war.

That's gonna seal Jerry's doom.  He's about to understand who the real "shadow commissioner" is.

If I were an owner, I would be happy with the job Goodell has done overall and would want him back.  How he handles the player protests is a tough one.  He kinda has to walk the tightrope...by doing so he gets 'both' sides unhappy with him, but if he picks one side...there will be a total revolt.  HOWEVER, if what he is asking for to get paid is true...I'd have some reservations.  Not that the owners can't afford it....but it looks like he is doing this as a 'golden parachute' of sorts for when/if he is shown the door.

Jerry Jones...Daniel Snyder...I have zero respect for.  Kraft is slightly better than those 2.

Jerry is just mad his boy toy RB was being suspended. If Elliott was on any other team, Jerry would be standing by Goodell and asking why the other owners haven't signed the deal already. But it's one of his top stars being punished so he throws a tantrum because he thinks he is really the guy running the league and everyone should be following him
