Rotoworld ranks Whaley as worst GM in NFL

Recommended Posts

Because most fans have no idea what they are talking about. The Bills were horrible in Polian's first season and dumb fans would have wanted to fire him. He inherited Kelly, got to draft Peyton #1, and got multiple top 5 picks with the Panthers.

If Whaley got Luck with the #1 pick, he would be one of the best GMs in the NFL.

They have Tom Brady. It's really that simple. They have drafted plenty of busts.

All very true and for those who have difficulty hearing and comprehending the truth.

What hasn't helped is the revolving door at HC. The different schemes and drafting for those different schemes has cost us.

9 days til' the draft. It will be interesting to see what transpires. I would love to see what the war room looks like and if Whaley will be the one calling the shots.

...and why is that? Answer...because the people doing the hiring of said coaches... SUCK AT IT.

If that is the case, then they need to find other jobs where the owner lets them do the hiring and firing.

But when it falls apart you can say it wasn't your fault.

Rinse and repeat.

Whaley is not terrible at finding talent, but he is not very good either. I knew the day we signed Chris Williams that Whaley was in over his head.

I think Whaley has earned that reputation, among the worst GMs in the league.

You look at the Positives:

1. He has found guys like Incognito, Alexander, Graham, Gillislee, Brown in Free Agency.

2. He has reversed the trend where every big name Bills UFA walks - Dareus, Hughes, Glenn.

The Negatives

1. He can't draft. Our Drafts consistently yield maybe one player who is good. Karlos Williams was awesome, for one season. Darby has been good. Watkins is talented, but hurt all the time, and underutilized, but after that it gets really thin on difference makers that Whaley has drafted. Additionally, with all the holes this season we have 6 Draft Picks, only 5 teams have less Draft capital than us, because Whaley has been insistent on moving up.

2. His answer at QB is to take other teams backups and have them compete with Manuel. See - Orton (after he said he was happy with Tuel and Thad Lewis), traded for Cassel, got outbid for McCown, signed Tyrod.

3. Reports have been consistent since he took over as GM that he clashes with people. The old guard was clashing with the new Guard after the 2013 season, his staff and Marrone got into TC 2014 about QB, reports of him feuding with Marrone at the end of 2014, reports of him and Rex feuding in 2015 and 2016, reports of him not agreeing with the Coaching staff on Taylor.

4. We don't win. He has been the #1 or #2 FO member in Buffalo since 2010 and this team wins 4, 6, 6, 6, 9, 8, 7 games.

2014 was the deepest receiver class of all time????

1996 begs to differ.

Keyshawn Johnson - 814 receptions lifetime
Terry Glenn - 593 receptions (15 yards per reception lifetime)

Marvin Harrison - 1,102 receptions

Eddie Kennison - 548 receptions (15.2 yards per reception lifetime)

Terrell Owens - 1,078 receptions

Eric Moulds - 764 receptions

Amani Toomer -- 668 receptions

Joe Horn - 603 receptions

Muhsin Muhammed - 860 receptions

Bobby Engram - 650 receptions

Jermaine Lewis - top ten in NFL history in punt return yards and punt return TDs plus 17 TDs over his career as a WR

Doug Whaley first 4 years: 30-34.

Bill Polian (who inherited Jim Kelly and got to draft Bruce #1) first 4 years: 32-31

Whaley took over from Nix in May of 2013. So that means he'd have control of three drafts over three seasons. So really Whaley is 24-24.

Guys like Reed, Thomas, the O line and so on were drafted by Polian. he was a good drafter. Your guy is terrible at drafting.

Good point. Either way, this Whaley hate is pretty stupid. Of course if message boards existed back then, people would have freaked out Marv Levely being hired and wanted Kelly benched.

Another great point! Whaley hasn't done a good thing! Well expect that Sammy has had a much better start to his career than Andre; McCoy averaged 5.4 ypc, more than any season in Thurman's career.

But I'm sure Whaley won't have benefited from starting off with Bruce and Kelly being handed to him to start his career as a GM.

Only GMs ranked below him were just hired this offseason

They ranked him 17th last year

And once again.........yoyo......aka the straw that stirs the sh*t........finds something negative to start a post about.

Most underrated negatron on TSW.

Nobody else finds this obscurity but him.
