Kaepernick and the National Anthem

Recommended Posts

Ha ha, an instant replay to determine whether a player was fully standing.

A bubble player might take a knee just to get kicked off the team and sue. Lol!

Forcing people to stand for the Stars and Stripes and then complaining that the people that killed American soldiers should keep their racist statues. Pathetic

Just to be clear...you believe First Amendment protection should extend to the workplace?

Not everyone with some still saying they are required to stand. We'll see if they actually change the language.

Goodell's memo from today:

This is the full text of Goodells memo released Tuesday:

We live in a country that can feel very divided. Sports, and especially the NFL, brings people together and lets them set aside those divisions, at least for a few hours. The current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country.

Im very proud of our players and owners who have done the hard work over the past year to listen, understand and attempt to address the underlying issues within their communities. At our September committee meetings, we heard directly from several players about why these issues are so important to them and how we can support their work. And last week, we met with the leadership of the NFLPA and more players to advance the dialogue.

Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the National Anthem. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us. We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issue. The controversy over the Anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues. We need to move past this controversy, and we we want to do that together with our players.

Building on many discussion with clubs and players, we have worked to develop a plan that we will review with you at next weeks League meeting. This would include such elements as an in-season platform to promote the work of our players on these core issues, and that will help to promote positive change in our country. We want to ensure that any work at the League level is consistent with the work that each club is doing in its own community, and that we dedicate a platform that can enable these initiatives to succeed. Additionally, we will continue the unprecedented dialogue with our players.

I expect and look forward to a full and open discussion of these issues when we meet next week in New York. Everyone involved in the game needs to come together on a path forward to continue to be a force for good within our communities, protect the game, and preserve our relationship with fans throughout the country. The NFL is at its best when we ourselves are united. In that spirit, lets resolve that next week we will meet this challenge in a unified and positive way.

what does this mean in your own words with what impact will it have?

You = Tiberius

I find the proposal of secession far less offensive than this "protest".

If California wants to do its own thing then more power to them. But any douchebag who wants to publicly deride our culture as being overtly racist and oppressive can go fu©k his mother.

Once again, the issue is over, and Trump has won. He gets a major culture war victory, cows the left, hammers the leftist sports media, and puts the liberals who have been trying to take over the NFL back in their place. ESPN is taking it from all sides now, and leftist media is running for cover.

All except eminem. Yeah, he's the only one taking a stand so principled, that it clearly has has nothing to do with promotion of his new album.

This is total victory for Trump, from every angle imaginable. If you don't agree? You're probably not supposed to, as this entire thing was designed for, and targeted at, people like you...to beat you, publicly. Now it's on you to explain to all the people you talked smack to, on the Internet, at the bar, gym, dinner table, why all the players are standing for the anthem. See, you don't get to blame anybody else this time. It was YOU who said what you did about this issue(ahem, Jeremy White), not DNC shills or consultants, and now YOU have to take this loss, personally.

Thus, this is a political ass-whipping for the entire left. Leep talking leftists, and you'll be the party of flag/troop haters. Wanna see how that plays in 2018? Or, you can do the smart thing: accept that you got beat, again, by somebody who is a lot smarter than you, take this loss like a grown-up, and move on. Maybe learn something.

Biggest difference between Trump and Obama so far:

1 Trump wins his fights.

2 He wins them with the MAJORITY support of the American people.

3 It doesn't cost us $30 M, and 2 years, to find out that Trump blew $200 M on his failed fight, like with Obama. We find out immediately, for free and Trump doesn't need to blow the $200 M(see #4).

4 Obama had to keep his fights secret. Trump begins the fight, tells you how it's going, and rightfully claims victory: on Twitter, and it costs nothing.

The players let themselves get manipulated by the lefties who despise football, they let them in that door.

and alienated the basic decent hard-working family folk who make up the football TV and stadium audience.

bad bad move....

Agreed. It did start with the players. However, Trump/somebody on his team, saw a major political win for the taking. He picked a fight with them, and kicked their asses. IF they allowed themselves to be manipulated, then, they've learned, the hard way, to think for themselves. IF they were actively trying to add to their brand, using what they thought was a low-risk issue as a vehicle, then, they learned not to F with Trump when it comes to politics.

I don't think there's a smart player alive who is happy with how things turned out. In all cases, it hurt them, especially when it comes to contract negotiations with the owners(EDIT: or, for that matter, with sponsors/endorsement deals). They cost the entire business a ton of money, over nothing. It's the first thing I'd talk about if I was the NFL.

The political people on the left seem intent on learning nothing from losing. I don't think NFL players are wired that way.

This story fits in here so perfectly. The anti-abortion guy that wanted his girlfriend to get an abortion would also. Profiting off of fake culture wars

Former Alabama judge Roy Moore, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, once said publicly that he did not take a “regular salary” from the small charity he founded to promote Christian values because he did not want to be a financial burden.

But privately, Moore had arranged to receive a salary of $180,000 a year for part-time work at the Foundation for Moral Law, internal charity documents show. He collected more than $1 million as president from 2007 to 2012, compensation that far surpassed what the group disclosed in its public tax filings most of those years.

When the charity couldn’t afford the full amount, Moore in 2012 was given a promissory note for back pay eventually worth $540,000 or an equal stake of the charity’s most valuable asset, a historic building in Montgomery, Ala., mortgage records show. He holds that note even now, a charity official said.

His wife took home hundreds of thousands of dollars as well

So, when Moore wins, what's your excuse going to be? You might as well tell us now, because we are just as likely to call BS then, as we are now.

Seriously though, it really baffles me that the left has yet to figure out that Trump is constantly baiting them into acting irrationally, as they continue to step on every twitter landmine he lays for them. Every silly tweet that they get outraged over hurts their credibility.

People expect Trump to act like an asshat, it's what he does. The left's continual attempts to out-asshat Trump just make them look more and more stupid, weak and ineffective.

Goodell: 'No policy change' on national anthem

A league spokesperson told NFL.com on Wednesday that "commentary this morning about the Commissioner's position on the Anthem is not accurate. The NFL is doing the hard work of trying to move from protest to progress, working to bring people together."

In a joint statement released by the NFL and NFL Players Association on Wednesday, both the league and union stated there have been no changes to the current policy regarding the national anthem:

"Commissioner Roger Goodell reached out to NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith today and both he and player leadership will attend the League meetings next week. There has been no change in the current policy regarding the anthem. The agenda will be a continuation of how to make progress on the important social issues that players have vocalized. Everyone who is part of our NFL community has a tremendous respect for our country, our flag, our anthem and our military, and we are coming together to deal with these issues in a civil and constructive way."

It's almost like the left doesn't have the ability to act in any way BUT irrationally. Oh, wait.....

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL RATINGS DIP AS EAGLES WIN & NATIONAL ANTHEM NOT SHOWN:

“As social media went into overdrive in reaction, the TV audience did not see the Panthers all stand for the song, nor the Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod each raise a fist into the air with teammate Chris Long appear to show solidarity.”

Up from last years 10/13 Thursday night matchup so that's good news for the NFL considering the outrage two weeks ago. I'm guessing as the playoffs near the ratings will go back to normal like they did last year. It's still too good of a product.

I only turned the game on as the game started, so I missed the pre-show stuff, but did the NFL talking heads bring up how Cam Newton is a sexist pig?

I missed about the first 20 minutes of the game so I don't know. They didn't mention it after that. I don't think.
