Pettine will end up being a lame duck just waiting to get fired so the new GM can hire his own coach. That, or the GM they hire will have little power over the coach of his team. Sort of like what we have here. Keeping a coach and firing the GM doesn't work in general. I like Pettine, but his resume is pretty light to force a new GM to keep him as well. Now let him cut all ties with Johnny Football and watch the Browns improve.they will draft a QB, part ways with Manziel, and keep McCown. IMO. T master Posted January 1, 2016 Share Posted January 1, 2016 There are very few HC's that can be a HC & a coordinator or play caller, the only one that i can think of off the top of my head is Mike McCarthy in GB when he wasn't calling plays they were losing when he does they win . Some HC's are just better at multitasking & I'm not sure if Rex is ? Pettine on the other hand was good as a DC both in NY & in B/Lo but let his crony do the play calling for the Browns so maybe him being more involved with the play calling would be a good thing ! Thurman on the other hand I THINK sucks ! I just never liked the guy from the get go when they said they were bringing him with Rex . I don't think he knows how to scheme to the players strength . I think if Rex has called the plays this year on the D he needs to do something different or if Thurman has then there definitely needs to be a change I just can't make myself like the guy … Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
