Refugee Crisis in the U. S. (?)

This should be interesting... forces the Democrats on record and against ICE, and maybe flushes out some RINOs?  They are "marking up" the bill on Thursday, so who knows what it will look like in final form.

McConnell to force vote next week on Trump border funding request

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is pledging to force a vote on President Trump's $4.5 billion request for emergency border money, regardless of whether or not the GOP can reach a deal with Democrats.

McConnell told Fox News's "Fox & Friends" during an interview on Monday that he was planning to bring up a "freestanding" deal in an effort to force Democrats to go on the record either supporting or blocking the request for humanitarian aid legislation.

</snip>

The White House’s request includes $3.3 billion for humanitarian aid, which the administration says would be used to increase shelters and care for unaccompanied minors, in addition to processing arrivals. They’ve also asked for roughly $1.1 billion for other border operations like expanding the number of detention beds and providing more investigation resources.

</snip>

Democrats say they support providing additional humanitarian aid for the U.S.-Mexico border, including shoring up a Health and Human Services (HHS) office that is responsible for unaccompanied minors detained along the border and on the verge of running out of funding.

But trying to get funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or expanding the number of detention beds is a non-starter for Democrats.

New York approves driver’s licenses for illegals over public opposition

New York State may not be able to figure out how to deal with people fleeing high taxes or its deteriorating infrastructure, but gosh darn it, they’re going to allow illegal aliens to obtain drivers licenses. A measure to put this policy in place has now passed both chambers of the legislature and the Governor announced last night that he’s going to sign it. So… job well done? (The Hill)

Statements from the Governor’s office indicated that he had initially been reluctant to sign this into law, giving me a false sense of hope that perhaps some common sense was on display. I say “false” because the reasons for the Governor’s reluctance were anything but sensible. He cited as his major concern a fear that the information gathered from illegal aliens in the process of getting them licensed “could be used against immigrants.” Those fears were apparently allayed when the Attorney General reviewed the legislation and determined that safeguards were in place to prevent that from happening.

Yes, you read that correctly. New York is specifically crafting legislation to shield the identity of illegal aliens from immigration enforcement officials.

Aren’t these elected officials – particularly the Governor – supposed to be in the business of defending and supporting the rule of law? I mean, isn’t that basically their job? We’re supposed to working to remove lawbreaking aliens, not shielding them.

That's a lotta blow...

(They've been inspecting the ship for over 24 hours)

16.5 tons of cocaine worth $1 billion seized at Philadelphia port

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Federal authorities have seized approximately 16.5 tons of cocaine, with a street value of over $1 billion, at the Packer Marine Terminal in Philadelphia.

An official said the ship was headed from Chile to Europe when the drugs were found in Philadelphia after authorities received a tip Monday night. The cocaine was discovered inside eight containers from a cargo ship, sources tell Action News.

The ship's course started in Chile then stopped in Peru and the Bahamas before making its way to Philadelphia. The US Attorney's Office Eastern District of Pennsylvania says the ship was then headed to Europe with a stop in Rotterdam.

TRUMP IS THE NEW NORMAL: New Quebec law stresses migrants’ skills, thousands must reapply.

The Quebec provincial legislature on Sunday approved a controversial immigration bill that will replace a first-come, first-served standard for accepting migrants with one tied to an applicants’ skills.

The law is similar to a proposed plan from US President Donald Trump that would shift his country’s visa system from family-based immigration towards bringing in more skilled workers.

The law will attempt to more closely match the skills offered by would-be immigrants with the needs of the labor market in Quebec, Canada’s second most-populous province.

Under the new law, some 18,000 applications now on file will be shredded, affecting as many as 50,000 people, many of whom already live in the province.

Get used to it.

Erie County clerk says nut uh.  He's not wrong, so we shall see where this goes.

Bonus: other clerks are saying they will inform ICE when an illegal applies for a NYS driver's license.

That's a gross post. Toddlers aren't walking themselves into this.

They're not giving kids toothpaste and toothbrushes or soap, having them sleep on concrete floors.

I'm all for strong borders, but the world is facing a refugee problem right now. Crappy economies like Italy and Greece are dealing with it. Germany is dealing with it. At this point we all are dealing with it in developed countries.

You come across extremely ignorant with that post. But you probably are.

He's a clown. Sounds like he's been drinking all night. He claims Greece, Italy and Germany are "dealing" with the refugee problem. Must be the newly created "no go" zones.

C'mon, he self-identifies as a "conservative". We must treat him like one based upon that self-identification, even though he clearly is not.

Them's the rules now!

Do you know anything about the EU and why their is a large portion of developed nations wanting to leave it?

No I'm a conservative. I'm not a fan of social welfare, I'd like for a relatively isolationist policy but I understand in this day it's not as possible as it was 200 years ago. Everyone is connected because of technology. We need to accept that and adjust the parameters.

I'm not arguing for open borders or amnesty, I still think some middle ground is where it needs to go.

Read up on the case that the 9th circuit heard this week. I'm not saying that all should be given citizenship, but someone saying toddlers should just walk the other way sounds like a ***** moron.

Yea that's my response. Care to refute anything? Go look at the 9th circuit case if you've ever heard of that or even understand the hierarchy of courts in this country.

I'm probably going over heads like a bulimic on a see-saw

Yes, and it doesn't bode well for any of your arguments. Do you know the difference between there, their and they're?

Care to refute that if people do not illegally cross the border they will not be locked up?

Those Central Americans are practically making reservations to get to stay in our "concentration camps". It's a shame that we can't supply them with all their hygiene needs but congress hasn't as of yet given us the funding for the soap factories.

This outta frost some cookies...

From the article (now it is WaPo, so who knows how true it is):

President Trump has directed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to conduct a mass roundup of migrant families that have received deportation orders, an operation that is likely to begin with predawn raids in major U.S. cities on Sunday, according to three U.S. officials with knowledge of the plans.

The “family op,” as it is referred to at ICE and the Department of Homeland Security, is slated to target up to 2,000 families in as many as 10 U.S. cities, including Houston, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and other major immigration destinations, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the law enforcement operation.

They won't, because "Trump is asking for more funding for concentration camps!!!"

If people will cut the Nazi bull#### and admit they're not concentration camps but refugee camps, this becomes a much easier problem to address.
