Unconventional, New Strategy Needed to Stop the Patriots?

At this point the Patriots and their scoring point source Tom Brady are literally unstoppable in the conventional football sense. The usual football defensive gameplan is not working. It seems as if teams need to start taking risks or go beyond conventional defensive wisdom. Especially near the red zone, where if teams don't do something differently he / they are going to score anyway.

Should teams (the Bills) concede that they are going to score and take some unconventional risks to try and stop them?

Example- rush 9 and cover 2, one guy covering Gronkowski and one guy covering Edeleman? Something different?

Play 2 minute hurry up offense the entire game.

Because you NEED a TD on almost every drive to beat them. You might have the luxury of one or two punts. Any more and you might as well not even take the field.

And no FGs. 3's are worthless. You need lots of 7's. Maybe even 8s

The problem is that every team thinks they can hold them down. The Jets held them to 16 going into the 4th quarter. They finished with 30.

They are GOING to get to 30, so you have to as well. Thinking otherwise is just a doomed proposition.

Sometimes I wonder why I even visit this board

If you can't match them on talent, game plan and execution aren't you giving up (in effect) unless you at least try something out of the box to stop them?

Hoping for "any given Sunday" doesn't get it done either. They are going to be undefeated unless some team finds a different way.

My uneducated opinion is mostly rushing 4, and focus on cutting off passing lanes and getting your hands up, and cutting off quick crossing routes/picks. It'd take a major amount of discipline, essentially the idea is to get your hand on the ball as much as possible to hopefully cause some turnovers.

running game. big running game. We have the most rush yards on them this year with 160 yards and had the ball with a shot to tie it. We need to not turn the ball over as well. Get karlos, shady, sammy and tt back and we have a shot at them if we protect the ball and run for 175 yards.

All out blitz every play until you hurt Brady. That's the only way you're going to so him is to injure him.

And since they embrace a win at all costs approach, seems like they'd respect the tactic... I'm in favor of it

The only team that ever stopped them was the Giants twice in the SB.

It was so odd both times, because suddenly that offense that could not be stopped scored in the teens. But it was just about the only time in several years anyone kept them down.

I'd say the Ravens have matched up ok too. *edit But I'd be wrong they are 7-1 v Ravens... For some reason I thought it was better than that

I think you come up, make him beat you over the top and drop LBs into the crossers lanes like beli himself did vs the k-gun

Run the ball - eat clock - score

Cover Gronk with 1 guy

Rush Marcia without blitzing…get in those lanes and get the hands up. lay wood whenever possible

Jam those little punk smurf WR's

Don't turn the ball over

Don't take penalties

Seems easy right? :censored::censored::censored:

Then there was the Wild Cat, from the Dolphins. I think that was when Bill Parcells was in charge of Miami.

That system totally flustered the Pats. I recall watching Belichick on the sidelines looking bewildered and he was not able to adjust until it was too late.

That scheme kept the Pats off the field and the Dolphins scoring. Not sure if Fins swept that season but at least split.

But I think your premise is right ... someone needs to do something out of the box in hopes of winning against this uber talented team.

Otherwise, you better hope the Pats O-line has a bad day and the opponent can penetrate up the middle ... ala Giants and Baltimore in years past. Even then, Brady is on a mission and will still pick you apart with multiple weapons.

The Giants made the blueprint. No one executes like they did.

Bills are at even a bigger disadvantage IMO because of their HC. With the Jets & now with the Bills

He trash talks ( to an extent). Pisses them off. The hoodie*** knows his style. And is the polar opposite. praises the opponent.

Keeps his trap shut. i think he spends a little extra preparation when he playes a Ryan coached team.

And rubs it in on the field. The pats**'vs. Bills on MNF? That might get real ugly.

Someone please beat these guys just once!!!! A 19-0 for those cheating ****ards will be way too much

To handle.

Pressure up the middle, blizting safeties if you have to. And man, press coverage on all the receivers. You absolutely have to disrupt the timing of the offense.

Laying back in a zone is stupid. Playing 7-10yds off the receivers to tackle after the quick catch is stupid. Rushing 3-4 all game and no pressure is stupid. Yes, you'll give up big plays blitzing Brady, but that's the only way to get him to make a mistake. And you're gonna get the ticky tack BS calls... so make them count! Lay Brady and that eddleman out every chance you get.

Offensively, go no huddle the entire game and don't let them substitute. And if you're in 4th and short... Go for it. You need TDs, not field position.

edit: fake calls on the sideline into the helmet and from the booth, the wristband has the plays listed on it with a number, change the wristband/numbers with each quarter, fake game plans in the locker room, and every other means possible to circumvent their cheating

Rush 3 and drop 8. Bring all three from the same side or straight up the middle.

And then mix in some all out blitzes. Not 5 guys. Bring six - one in every gap. Then play man coverage with no safety.

It's the only way to stop them. You can not simply play nickel and dime defenses.

And you probably need to play a little dirty. Get a few extra shots to Gronk, Edelman, and maybe Lucifer himself.
