This line of thinking drives me crazy.

So when a story breaks that isn't the most important problem in the world it should not be focused on?

I think to Zimbabweans, Cecil the Lion isn't even the least important problem in the world, and yet it gets substantially more coverage, attention and outrage here than the real problems they face everyday.

Imagine if real problems got all the coverage, attention and outrage that was given to a lion which, about a week ago, was unknown to virtually everyone.

The problem is, it is being focused on like it IS THEE most important problem in the world.

Given the chance, what do think that lion would do? Yeah, poor little kitty Cecil. Hold hands and sing kumbaya w/the dentist? It's a dead lion, you can focus on it... Just don't get all emotional and blow it out proportional like he kicked the family pet or something... Or put a ton of human traits on the lion. It is humans that are suffering in Zimbabwe. Way too much time on people's hands and such a First World problem to worry and focus on. Focus all you want, but it is wasted energy, unproductive energy. Focus on something that will actually help people. Everybody that is butt hurt over this should all donate 100 bucks to the people of Zimbabwe. That should catapult Zimbabwe to Sweden status! Ha! If they are going to fault the hunt, then off set the cost spent w/some do-re-mi.

The wackos @ PETA have a lot recruits I see. It's what keeps them going.

So you don't think the real problems that they face get any coverage? All the "real" problems in the world never really go away. I'm sure it's hard for the media to focus on and constantly make new stories on issues that really never go away or change very slowly. The Cecil story is a blip and we will all move on to the next thing, it's how it works. Ever go on Facebook? People talk about more than the deepest issues

So you think 10 years from now people will still be talking about Cecil? I'm sure people will still be talking about about poor people in Africa

Odds are that, since Cecil was shot, someone in East Africa was eaten by a lion.

Maybe all the real problems of the world would start to go away if we paid them 1/10th the attention we paid to a dead lion.

The world's a carnivorous place. The righteous are now consuming the dentist just as Cecil and the dentist hunted their quarry. I find it rather telling, let's see if the dentist is still running a productive practice in society 10 years from now.

Yep. And a village in India is being terrorized by a bengal tiger.

I heard major airlines are now refusing to transport trophy kills so as not to contribute to big game hunting. Chalk up another win for neo-fascism and a loss for endangered animals.

I wonder if those pushing to end big game hunting will regret their movement if they're successful at eliminating big game hunting, thus eliminating the financial incentive to maintain the habitats and populations of these animals, and ultimately bringing about the extinction of more speci.

Who am I kidding. People like that never look beyond the first step anyway. I'm sure they'll never even consider the possibility that they did more harm than good.
