They were on National TV 11 times last year with an openly tanking team and only 5 this year with a hugely improved roster - doesn't make much sense.

With the open tank there was a story to tell. Now t hat we successfully tanked, got the number 2 pick, and are set to be pretty good, but not stellar this year, we're nobody.

I don't care if they are on national TV ever. I prefer our own broadcasts, just sucks for you out of town fans without an NHL package though. But it is weird though how we were on so much last season in an obvious tanking position and are on less than half the number of times with an exciting, young, much improved (hopefully) squad with one of the best US born rookies in a long while (Kane?).

Revamped Sabres set to start climbing standings

By Joe Yerdon - NHL.com Correspondent

NHL.com 30 in 30 - Buffalo Sabres

NHL.com Sabres 2015-16 Season Preview (2:48)

E.J. Hradek and Dan Rosen take a look at the Buffalo Sabres for the upcoming 2015-16 NHL season.

BUFFALO -- Things are about to change for the better for the Buffalo Sabres.

The past two seasons were the worst in Sabres history, so it'd be easy to say things can't get worse, but the arrival of the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, Boston University center Jack Eichel, has changed the attitude here.

Eichel's arrival, coupled with the eventual debut of forward Evander Kane, who didn't play for the Sabres after he was acquired in a trade from the Winnipeg Jets on Feb. 11 (elbow surgery); center Ryan O'Reilly, acquired from the Colorado Avalanche on June 26; and coach Dan Bylsma, has the Buffalo fan base hopeful the organizational rebuild will bring results on the ice.

I was reading an article on the Sabres today and came across this little nugget:

Here is how the Vanek traded ended up from both the Islanders and the Sabres after all connected pieces in the deal were traded and draft pick selections were made:

Sabres acquired:

Matt Moulson, Robin Lehner, David Legwand, Josh Gorges, Brendan Guhle, Jack Nevins (Mitchell trade), Vaclav Karabacek and a 2017 7th round pick (Mitchell trade)

Islanders acquired:

Sebastian Collberg and Josh Ho-Sang

@ProHockeyTalk

What does Jack Eichel mean to the Buffalo Sabres? http://wp.me/p14QU5-a0fR

It takes a special type of player to dramatically alter the perception of your franchise and the mood of the fanbase before playing a single minute in the NHL, but Jack Eichel is not your typical high-end draft pick.

He’s the reason over 17,000 fans in Buffalo wanted to see a prospects scrimmage in July. By extension Eichel is the primary source of the optimism surrounding the team despite the fact that the Sabres are coming off of a 23-51-8 record.

In fact, that might even been underselling his impact because as an American he has the potential to accomplish things that no other U.S.-born talent has done before.
