Whaley brings in the talent. Marrone decides to use it or not, cut them or not. There is no mandate to use anyone on the roster.

GO BILLS!!!

Then if the 2015 money is guaranteed, Marrone owes his boss an explanation why he flushed $5.2million down the drain and didn't improve the offense.

And if you are correct that Marrone threw the hissy fit to get Orton in at a premium, only to have him play at a very pedestrian level, then Marrone just wasted $10 million of his boss's money.

Marrone doesn't owe anyone an explanation, but if someone wants one anyway, he'll be glad to provide one. We'll know more going forward, but I doubt anyone's too upset about the Williams situation. You roll the dice on players. Sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don't. That's understood going in. So far, I haven't heard any rumblings from the pro personnel side or Whaley about Marrone's handling of MW.

Marrone didn't throw a hissy fit about paying a premium to get Orton in, he threw a hissy fit about having to settle for Palmer when he was under that impression. There's a difference. Orton is who he wanted for several weeks, though. And he WAS pissed when he thought he had to settle for Palmer. That's a fact.

Orton's playing for up to $5m guaranteed this year. I doubt anyone owes anybody an explanation about that, either.

How about we get rid of the "kickoff specialist". He has been a bust this year as a roster spot taker....

That is Gay.

you don't seem to have learned his name yet.

I am very serious about this...

I fire Doug Marrone too for waiting far to long to ditch this bum

So why did it take forever ?????

This team is suffering from the negative vibes in the locker room......this guy was laughing at the Bills during every practice its all very well documented

Dumb moves and ass protection is killing this team, If you make a mistake then admit it to the fans & media, YOUR NOT FOOLING ANYONE

Links?

Charley Ferguson's number no way.

HAHA!

I hope Oakland or NE signs him and he goes off against the Bills for like three TDs (I know, highly unlikely). That would be the death nail for Marrone.

You sir are the ultamite Bills fan

I thought he was only a cap hit if he is here next year and since someone brought it up since it is pretty likely he will clear waivers, he could out last Marrone.

also BTW all you who say he was not playing because of Hogan.... well, not exactly, MW doesn't play slot. He was at best right now a #4 wr on the team and also didn't play teams. Hence his not playing and wierd timing dumping, I kind of think they are trying to be nice to him doing this. He could still get paid, play for a good team and stick. And that might have expensive implications for the Bills accordng to some.

Anyway Good Luck Mike. I was excited to have you a Buffalo boy, on the team. Cheers

I am aware of how the power structure normally works. I am looking forward and just spit balling a bit, but if Whaley was thinking of changing the offensive staff, don't you think he would have kept MW to see what a real OC could or couldn't do with him? I guess I al asking if this cut this late in the season is a sign that next season will be more of the same.

Inversely maybe Whaley is backing Marrone on this and MW has jumped the shark.

Can Mike Williams play for another NFL team (in a different city) if he is still owed money by the Bills? Doesn't this violate the rule against having two professional sports teams in two different cities??

That reminds me, how can Kim and Terry own both the bills and the sabres? Is that even allowed? I wonder if that has come up at an owners meeting.

I talked to someone who heard their cousin say that this is on the agenda for the next meeting. If the Pegulas are deemed ineligible, the NFL will give their money back and award the team to Bon Jovi. Watch out because it is what Jerry Jones wants.

For some reason, I thought that we would not be on the hook for any of Williams' salary going forward if he was not on the team after this year. Buffalo News notes that if Williams is not picked up via waivers by another team, the Bills will have more than $5 million in dead cap money from Williams in 2015. That is ridiculous.

If he was my employee, he would absolutely owe me an explanation of how he just wasted $10.2 million of my budget with very little to show for it. Marrone threw a hissy fit over Palmer and according to you was demanding that Whaley try harder to sign Orton, which led to a very lucrative contract for a back up.

So Whaley traded for Big Mike, Whaley traded away Stevie, Whaley traded for Watkins, Whaley traded for Brown, and Whaley signed Orton.

You are right, you always roll the dice on players. But when many of those players never see the field, or regress as the season goes on, the coach better have some 'splainin to do to his boss.

Not sure where you're getting the $10.2m unless you are tying in Orton. I don't see how Marrone is wasting any of Orton's salary. Seeing as he has started the vast majority of games, I'd say they are getting good deal on a starter in the NFL.

I think we'll learn more about the MW situation after the season. Could very well be a case of Marrone simply never wanting that particular player in the first place although I don't think that's it. MW fell into disfavor sometime after the season started. It would surprise me if Whaley isn't fully informed as to why.

I think Whaley fully respects that once he stocks the roster, it's Marrone's to do with what he pleases, so I don't think there will be much in the way of Marrone owing explanations for that aspect of his job.

I fully expect Whaley to rake Marrone over the coals for his ingame management. I don't think Marrone is up to a coherent explanation in that regard at all.

Why such a big deal over this? He was not brought in to be our #1 WR. We traded a 6th rd pick for him, hardly a blockbuster trade. We tried him out and it didn't work out. If he is that good, why did the Bucs let him go for a 6th rd pick? It appears there was something about him they didn't like either. Bad attitude/locker guy? Not that good of a receiver? or Both? It just seems like the hatred for Marrone is blinding some of the fact that Williams was brought in as a project. You don't trade a 6th rd pick for the SAVIOUR of a team. The Bucs would be foolish to do that. Why oh why did the Bucs let this AWSOME WR go for peanuts? Maybe that's the question you guys should be asking. Better yet, do your best Aaron Rodgers impersonation move on and R-E-L-A-X !! It's (he's) not worth it.

Big Mike is just another brick in the wall. On his own, it may have been an isolated issue, but if I'm the Pegula's consultant, I would be interested to understand why the GM's offensive moves have backfired so badly, while the defensive moves have largely panned out. There appears to be a massive disconnect between the roster that Whaley is assembling and how those players are being utilized. It's not just game day decisions, it's the approach to the roster and how the coach utilizes the players that he's given.

Funny that most people forget that a major offseason defensive acquisition is nowhere to be found lately. But it doesn't matter because the entire unit is playing well, and the miss on Keith Rivers isn't glaring. Can't say the same about the offense, despite much more activity by the GM on that front.

There's a serious case of failed communication between the GM and coach regarding the offense, and it will be fixed one way or another.

Owing explanations to Whaley vs. the Pegula's consultant are two different animals. EVERYBODY will have to report.

Rivers is no mystery. He was outplayed in preseason and lost his job to better players. He's a complete non-issue.

I'm not following you on the serious issues on offense. Other than we aren't very good on that side of the ball, of course. Whaley certainly attempted to address the Oline and Marrone certainly tried to plug in all of Whaley's additions at some point. People can question Marrone's use of Urbik, but that's his decision, as much as anyone disagrees with it. There's the MW issue too, but as I've said, I think Whaley respects that it's Marrone's roster to manage as he sees fit and I don't think he isn't fully aware of what happened there. From a personnel standpoint, I don't see a problem with communication. From a schematic standpoint, in game management standpoint yeah, I think Whaley will want a complete debriefing after the season.

2014 was not a good year for Whaley. Trading the future for a WR in a deeeeep WR draft. Trading for Williams. Trading for Brown. No real developmental option to EJ. I guarantee you Belichick doesn't piss away $5.2 M. It's like Whaley deals with players without any plan in building the team and stacking with proper depth.
