Delete This Account Posted December 23, 2009 Author Share Posted December 23, 2009 Aaron's been talking about this for a while, as noted in my piece, and backs up something a poster wrote on this board back in august. personally, i think pass-rushing DE's are hard to find. and though Schobel's performance was inconsistent at times, i don't think he was over-rated. he was/is good. the correlation is evident this year, considering how an effective pass rush is helping the Bills DBs. don't know if Byrd would have as many interceptions -- or the entire team for that matter -- without the push the line's applied. and the fact that those sack and interceptions were down last year without Schobel is telling. oh, and by the way, the other reporter speaking to Schobel was Buffalo News' Allen Wilson. providing credit where it is due. jw Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It must be very tough mentally to get up and go through this year after year physically. Schoebel has pride, slow or not. We can talk about New Coach, GM, Scouts, Draft..but until Ralph and Littman are no longer controlling things it really will never change. It is sad and a waste of a lot of people's time. sharper802 Posted December 24, 2009 Share Posted December 24, 2009 I would actually be ok with him retiring. I realize that he has 7 sacks this year and is having an all around solid season. But he has a massive contract and this money could be allocated to other positions of need. Obviously I would prefer he decide not to retire...but I won't be devastated. Money is not the problem for this team. They are well below the salary cap and losing a very good DE just makes more problems. Not that I am advocating this, but the only good that could come from Schobel retiring would be facilitating a switch to a 3-4. A free agent NT would need ot be signed(from where I do not know) and Stroud, Williams and Johnson could possibly play DE's in a 3-4 with Williams playing back-up nose guard. He's played his entire career as a Bill and he's put up numbers better than any other Bills' DE, not named Bruce. For those that dislike his efforts for the Bills, you do know there's 31 other teams out there if you hate every player on the Bills' squad? Again why we bang on the few good players we have I have no idea. I'm not saying he hasn't benefitted from some presuure up front, but the majority of his interceptions were the result of individual ability and effort. Simply put Whitner makes none of those plays, plug in Byrd....bingo leads the league in ints. Aaron Schobel has slowed down a lot, no question.
