Talking about going to the game in MIAMI next week. Just checked, no vaccine mandate at Hard Rock Stadium. -
Week 1 Loss Thoughts 24 Hrs Later
Paup 1995MVP replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great point about the O line. The O line played lousy from tackle to tackle. Very surprised that we went 14-3 with such a marginal O line. There are no studs on the line. Dawkins is not a stud. When he is on he is above average but never dominates. The rest of the guys are pretty much average to poor. Watching the game against the Steelers and last years playoffs, our roster is not nearly as strong as we would like to believe it is. I think management rested on its laurels a bit too much in the offseason and did little to upgrade the roster. We should have better then Feliciano, Ford and Boettger at Guard. CB2 is a liability. Levi Wallace is not a starting NFL CB. Has little athleticism for the position. The O line is average AT BEST. And we really do not have a dominant RB on the roster. Singletary has some wiggle, but no burst. The front 7 looked a lot better on Sunday. But at this point there are no dominant players in the Front 7. (Although a shout out to Matt Milano and Ed Oliver for playing real well on Sunday) I also think the coaching on the whole, game planning and in game adjustments, and decision making needs a whole lot of improvement. McDermott has certainly not shown he is ready to dominate in big games. (I have no idea why we did not kick the FG up 10-3 on 4th and 8 from the 35 with one of the best kickers in the league. We go up 13-3 and its a whole different game. And the 4th down backward pass was disgusting.) Allen is a stud. But he needs a much better game plan to get the most out of his talents. And stop the QB designed runs. NFL QB's can not run between the tackles. The defensive players are too good to allow for big gaps that are needed for big gains. Big QB runs come off of broken plays/scrambles in the NFL) This is a very big game this week. (Even for week 2) The psyche of a team is very important. We looked flat ill prepared and almost disinterested at times on Sunday. Coaches need to get the tempo and the intensity of the team to another level this week. This season is going to be a dogfight. We had better be ready to bring our A game every week. Otherwise we will be a very disappointed team and fan base come January. -
Brady was great. But he played in an era when QB's are protected and not allowed to be demolished. If he played in the 80's and 90's no way he plays into his 40's. Jim Kelly was battered at the end of his career. The head was fair game back in the day. Its like hockey. When do you see the crosscheck in the back w the player facing the glass anymore or the check to the head while skating across the middle? Scott Stevens on Eric Lindross. Its a kinder gentler sports world we live in. lol

Reggie White was as powerful a D lineman as there has ever been.. But Bruce coming around the corner was unblockable a lot of the time. Writing this I remember Bruce just crushing Jeff George when he played for the Colts. Both were all world.
-
I agree. I was very proud when I saw Bruce at #20. Elway is too high at #15. He was good. But not that good. The 2 Super Bowls he won at the end of his career were on Terrell Davis and a great run blocking scheme w their excellent O line.

Brandon Beanes Presser today…informative
Paup 1995MVP replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that is a pretty fair assessment TBJunkie. Also Kummerow didn't look a whole lot smaller then Hollister. I think Knox and Sweeney (if healthy) and Gilliam will be fine for us at TE. We have a top 3 WR corp in the league. That is our bread and butter. Some teams have stud TE's. We have stud WR's. -
You might be right on the exact number at Rich. I knew it was a little over 80,000. And that was definitely the number at the Aud. Remember that well, when the Sabres were a respected and respectable hockey team.. So long ago!! Given the size of the region, including Rochester and Southern Ontario, I would think the 70,000 is very doable. But I haven't lived in WNY in years, and entertainment is so fragmented in today's world, it may be more difficult to fill up the stadium. Interesting how many college football stadiums in the midwest and south sell upwards of 80,000 seats for every game.

No he wouldn't. He can lead infield practice with all the grounders he throws.
-
Its football. That's why we have 80 guys still on the roster. We will be fine come opening day. All teams have lots of guys on the injury report during training camp. The physicality of practices in today's game is nothing compared to yesteryear. I doubt they run the Oklahoma drill any longer. That was wicked. I remember when they used to do it in my son's Pee Wee practices. They would just beat the hell out of each other. LOL The game has certainly changed.

Bills and Steelers to get #2 CBS announcing team
Paup 1995MVP replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kevin Harlan is excellent. But for excitement and energy, it is hard to beat Gus Johnson... He could make a game between the Jets and Jags feel like its the Super Bowl. Getting Charles Davis as analyst for the opener is good. -

Comparison to 90s SB teams
Paup 1995MVP replied to BoccesOnTransit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great point Greg S. Along those lines I was watching a 60 minute condensed version of the 1998 Alamo Bowl last nite between Purdue (w a very young Drew Brees) and Kansas State (w Michael Bishop at QB). It was an amazingly entertaining game I had recorded off of the Big 10 Network last summer. (A Purdue Classic. LOL) I was watching w my girlfriend's 23 year old son who was spending the nite. The game was tremendously exciting. But the hitting was off the chain. Guys were flying helmet first on almost every play. Receivers and backs were getting absolutely drilled. My girlfriend's son thought there could have been at least 5 or 6 targeting penalties with today's rules. He had never seen football played this way. He was amazed. And there was not one unnecessary roughness penalty called the entire game. Dam the game has changed over the past two decades!! -
trade idea - Jake Fromm to ATL
Paup 1995MVP replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice idea. Fromm is well thought of here in Georgia. And the Falcons are in deep trouble if Franks ever has to play. (He was terrible against Miami on Saturday nite. And he was pretty bad in college to be honest about it) But a 4th round pick is not going to happen for Jake Fromm at this point in his career. I saw the play where AJ got hit. Did he tear his ACL? -
Can't get rid of Stevenson. Guy has top end speed. Those guys are tough to come by. Kumerow is solid and will probably contribute in spots. And Hollister looks like a solid NFL player as well. We have a lot of talent on offense. But you can never have too much. Not sure why a guy like Duke Williams is even in camp. He is slow has no explosion and marginal hands. No need to keep a guy like that on the practice squad. The Duke Williams experiment needs to end.. It should be very interesting getting down to the final 53. Go Bills.

Reggie White, LT, Bruce and Ray Lewis. The modern NFL defensive Mt Rushmore. And we can squeeze Ronnie Lott on the lower tier of the mountain. Safety used to be such a position of violence. Wow, remember Lott, Steve Atwater, John Lynch, David Fulcher, Kenny Easley, Brian Dawkins, etc. Good grief receivers used to have it rough. Just goes to show how great Jerry Rice was putting up the numbers he did in the era he played.

McGinnest Harrison Seymour and Wilfork should all be in the Hall of Very Good. None should be in the HOF. Ty Law played at my alma mater Michigan. So I guess I am a little more biased to him. But while he was good, I never thought he was all world. Vinatieri is the best of all of them. And he played over half his career with the Colts. the HOF has been watered down w too many selections. It should be for the absolute best of the best. The Patriots mentioned while very good, were not that.

Agree about the upgrade at CB2. Levi isn't bad. And Jackson seems like a gamer who hopefully has a lot of upside. But Wallace is not overly athletic, and while he can tackle well, he has trouble staying w speed receivers and has to give a lot of cushion. To really compete for the Super Bowl I think we need someone a little more talented then Levi at CB2. The Bills did not make a lot of changes to last years roster. (We did go 15-4 overall) However, I hope if Jackson shows that he can consistently make plays that they don't just start Levi ahead of him, because they are more comfortable with him out there.

Not to Milano Feliciano and Daryl Williams. They all likely took less from the Bills to stay in a good situation for themselves. (Especially Milano) Then test the free agent market. If you are a free agent and your team (say the Bills) are offering good money, but not ridiculously good money. And say the Jaguars and maybe the Lions are offering 10% more. I think a whole lot of guys are going to stay with the Bills than jump to a crap team.

Tasker & Brown don't know the cap rules
Paup 1995MVP replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Steve Tasker was one of the greatest special teams players of all time. And a pretty solid WR. He gave his blood sweat and tears to the Bills. Was an excellent analyst for CBS, and is a great ambassador for the team....Period. So he is not 100% up to the speed on the nuances of the salary cap. SO WHAT!! -
Edmunds has not even been very good, let alone elite. (I don't want to hear he made two Pro Bowls. Big deal. The proof is on the field. And he has not been a stud) I would not have picked up his 5th year option. But lets see what he can do when he is healthy. Its time for him to dominate. He does that he will get his long term deal. Fingers crossed.

I think that is a great analysis of Kurt Warner Buffalo 03. I loved his game. His first season with the Rams is one of Legend. Didn't he throw for over 300 yards and 3TD's in his first 3 games. The way he threw a football was a thing of beauty. Also a great leader and seemed to be a real good guy. He was as good as anyone who played the position during his career.
