It's about all the other things that the salary call doesn't apply to. Budget for the coaching staff. For scouting and other front office positions. Weight room. Practice facility. Training staff and equipment. The locker room. Other amenities received by the players. That's where what the owner is willing to spend really matters.

Unless they use TNF to highlight divisional matchups again next season. That seemed to work well for them in the sense that even if the game was terrible...it mattered as divisIonal games always do.

They want to win now. They might continue to develop the kids but I would be very surprised if they don't bring in veterans to play in the interim. They cannot make the same mistake they did going into the last two seasons

I would call Bills/Jets a lock for the two team's TNF game. A trade for an established QB might be enough to get a Ryan/Belichick SNF or MNF matchup on the schedule

This year they also added an actual threat across from Calvin Johnson, had improved play from young players on the defense like Darius Slay and Ziggy Ansah and added an actual good safety next to Glover Quin. Schwartz would have taken the same roster to the playoffs just like Caldwell did. IIRC they also had some injury issues last season especially at the WR position which effectively neutered the offense for a good portion of the season

He's as good as gone. You have to figure he's likely gone when the new coach is hired anyway. Why not jump at the chance to coach at your alma mater

Watkins could still end up being worth more then Beckham. It's just a matter of getting a coach in here that will target Sammy in the same way that the Giants targeted Beckham down the stretch

That would be what takes out SD and KC as competition. PIT winning out (over KC and CIN) and CIN losing out (to DEN and PIT) is the best case scenario for the AFC North teams IMO. CIN is then out at 9-6-1 and it doesn't matter what happens with Baltimore then as long as Buffalo can get to 10-6

If SD wins this, Buffalo needs a KC loss tomorrow to PIT and then a KC win over SD next week.

I think you could also add the Bengals losing out to your scenario. If Buffalo goes 2-0, Pittsburgh goes 2-0 or 1-1, and Cinci goes 0-2 they're out at 9-6-1.
