Wk 14 Postgame Thread Bills lose to Ravens 24-17
Rockinon replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think there was a single deep throw where Josh didn't have to get rid of it just in time to get creamed. Baltimore would line up their defense and just before the snap someone would move up to the edge as an additional rusher. The Bills could not find a way to stop it. This offense is pretty good but they are not elite yet. They managed to make a few plays but there is still room to grow. I'd have been happier if the Bills found a way to tie the game late in the 4th, but I am still proud of this team. For those thinking Josh can't hit those deep shots, I'm calling BS. He can do it. He did it repeatedly last year. I think the offense came into this season specifically working on the short to intermediate routes, something Josh really needed to work on, with the new receivers. There has been enormous improvement but this offense is still a work in progress. That's what I see. The Ravens D had our number this game. Might be different the next time. Not sure I would call this game a step back either....more of a speed bump. They'll go look at the tape, learn and make adjustments. We might just get a second crack at this team. -

Offense has been a work in progress all year. Our Pts/game avg. must be pretty low. -

Got to have more Blitz beating plays drawn up. It's obvious they weren't ready for this kind of defense. -

The other Tre has a pretty good chance at a interception this game. -

Just speculating on their backup center being able to handle the job. Get him nervous and that can be a huge advantage. Seen a lot of games go south when a center is making mistakes. -

Wonder if a couple of early blitzes run right up the middle will be a nice welcome for the new center. See if he can handle it without getting the jitters. -

Have you seen Oliver coming off of a block? Doesn't matter how fast you are if your interior OL is blown up like that. You expect an offensive lineman to at least slow the rush down. When it doesn't, it's too late. -

Foster has been showing some flashes the last couple of games. And we haven't been running those jet sweeps as much lately. The 49ers were successful running to the edges too. I think we see just that. -
Ravens @ Bills ****Predict the score****

Buffalo's defense has been very good all year. There is really no arguing that. The offense had some stinkers early in the season but overall have shown steady improvement. The last 3 games it has really been heating up. Josh Allen is showing signs of improvement right along with the offense. They are clicking. Ravens are going to be surprised. On defense, the Bills have been very good but somewhat conservative in their play calling. That too has changed in recent weeks. More blitzes have been called. The Dline has been getting in on the fun and they have been forcing more turnovers. Something changed after the loss to the Browns on both sides of the ball. I think the coach realized that his conservative style has been holding the boys back and has recently let go of the reigns to allow them to play "free". I am getting the impression that this team is just scratching the surface discovering how good they can be. We have seen steady improvement all year. Heres to continuing the trend. Bills 27 Ravens 24 -
Josh rolling out as well. Going to be an interesting game. I don't think they can stop our speedy receivers either. The best defense against this team is an efficient offense. Long sustained drives that keep our defense rested, and of course ending in TDs. If our D can get a couple of key stops in this game, the offense can pull ahead. Put the pressure on Lamar's arm. Make him play to our strength....stopping the pass. They can absolutely be beaten. Have to admit though, this ain't going to be easy. Hope the D did their homework on those run concepts with that extra time.

Josh Allen month - star potential

Josh beating the Ravens could steal that MVP from Lamar. -
The best way to beat Lamar Jackson is to keep the lead all game and make him beat us. Get out to an early lead and this team is beatable. Don't think we are going to stop the run. We just need to slow them down enough to give Josh and the offense opportunities to pull ahead. This offense mixes up some trickery with power run schemes and is very difficult to stop. With Jackson's ability to take off, the job just gets harder. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense. That is going to be especially true against this team. Some nice long drives to give our defense time to rest is going to be key in this game. If we are playing from behind and they just keep running at us in the second half, this game is over. Hopefully the defense can force a couple of punts in this game. Tough sledding though. This is a classic time of possession game. Win that, we likely win the game.

After watching the 49ers game, occurred to me that trying to force the Ravens into passing can only be accomplished by getting a big lead. They just keep coming with that rushing attack. A close game where you are battling for time of possession is not what we want. I'm thinking no huddle right out of the gate and put up pts as fast as possible in the first half.

Singletary has been good running to the edge too for us. Yep, Ravens run D has some weaknesses.
-
Garapolo seems a little off. Ravens can be passed on too. Is it me or do these 2 teams seem big and slow? head butted him before the ball got there. Legit call.
-
Stopping that Ravens run game is going to be tough. That pre-snap motion is going to be a problem.

You're right about containing Jackson, and forcing him to throw. But that isn't a bad thing against our defense. Remember our D excels against the pass. We can lean on our secondary to stop the pass. The #1 objective is closing rushing lanes and keeping Lamar bottled up. Also have to be prepared for the option plays they run. Don't be fooled by the misdirection run plays like we were killed on against the Eagles. Don't get me wrong. This team is dangerous. No one is running the ball better. That has to be shut down first. Lamar can still hurt teams passing, but his chances diminish against our secondary. On offense, I'd like to see them keeping the best players on the field. All of the swapping of players and trickery are just asking for false start penalties and such. Let Josh mix in hurry up and continue with the 400+ yard offensive production we have been seeing the past few weeks. Baltimore is best at stopping the run so perhaps the passing percentage should tick up a bit. Nothing too extreme. Still have to run so we give the defense some variety to think about. We want to draw the Ravens into thinking it's going to be a run to help out the passing game. They are vulnerable against the pass. This could finally be Josh's big 300yd game.

Your Favorite Allen Play from T-day?

That scramble for a TD was pretty sweet too. Josh rolls out to the right, pump fakes, freezes the defender, then takes off for the endzone. -

Yea, that kinda sucked. I just happened to be paying attention during the play. Was wishing I could see it again myself. -
Josh Allen - week TWELVE report card

Josh faked a handoff to the RB on the play. Literally had to rip the ball out of the RBs hands. I was thinking his grip on the ball was not right when he let loose that errant pass. Just speculation. It was a horrible floater which is highly unusual for him. Whatever the reason, not really worried, seemed kinda fluky.
