At the beginning of last year, I think they thought the pass rush would be better than it was and that the back end would be better too. It wasn't. That is why the scheme was adjusted. Some of those adjustments worked and now they are going to implement some more changes. The game is evolving and the Bills must also or get left behind.

I think the Bills are looking at some changes schematically and it began last year. It started with selecting Soloman in the draft, a much smaller quicker pass rusher than what they typically go for. Then there is the fact that the Bills began playing more man coverage throughout the year. And now drafting a CB with off the charts speed that can play man. Also, drafting another 3 tech DT when everyone thought it would be a 1 tech. The Bills still like their scheme, but it seems they are gradually mixing things up and we are going to see more of that this year. There is a lot of conversation about how other defenses have adapted to stop a Josh Allen led offense. With the way Buffalo's defense performed last year, perhaps it has become clear that offenses have found ways to combat a Bill's defense. I'm just speculating, but I have a hunch the new additions aren't just replacements for a specific defensive scheme. It seems to be about scheme diversity. These additions allow the Bills to mix up not only types of coverage but also defensive line rotations with guys that have different skill-sets. The potential is there for the Dline to wreak some havoc by mixing up the scheme and the type of player on that line. Not sure how they intend to do it. It does look like they can be more flexible now though. To me Landon Jackson is just another piece that allows for a diverse rotation.

That would be the politically correct thing to do. Me personally, I like that he spoke his opinion without fear. It was an honest take on his part and I prefer that to holding back what's really on his mind.

There is a lot of talk that he may actually play along side of Oliver.

The deeper the throw, the less likely it is going to be caught. It's a lower percentage throw and that's true of all QBs, even Josh. Still, it is nice having a burner to keep defenses honest. I personally think the Bills are embracing the run game. This can also keep a defense honest because those successful runs help to open up the pass game. And I think folks may be overstating the need for a deep threat burner. We have TEs and RBs that can catch the ball too. I know the Bills struggled some last season but Brady didn't take long to find other ways to win. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can come up with after having a full season behind him. And MVP Josh seems to be embracing his leadership in the offense as well. Add in a defense that gets the ball back more often, we might just see the offense take another step forward instead of backwards. I know. It's not the theme on this board. Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. Don't think I am though....

Amari came and started immediately last year without the benefit of a training camp with Josh. I'm wondering if bringing him back is on Beane's radar. Could be. It's really odd to me that no one has taken a flyer on him thus far. He is older but he still seems to be in good shape and it was pretty obvious that he helped the offense out even though the production wasn't there. I wonder.

I was holding out hope for a DT, but this kid can really move the needle too.

I think Grant next to Oliver could do some damage. Understand the need for CB, but a defensive line that can put the fear of god into an offense....that's what I want. I also expect, the front office wants that too. The coach also thinks the DL needs to get better.

I think Beane might be considering moving one or both of those late 2nd round picks to earlier 2nd round picks. Stay put in the 1st round and then move up in the second. That seems more likely than moving up in the 1st to me. Most agree that teams don't have more than 20 1st round grades in this draft but there are plenty with second round grades. By the time the Bills pick at 30 most of those 1st round grades will all ready be gone. Basically, we can maximize talent by getting 3 highly rated second round guys, since our late 1st round guy is really going to be rated as a 2nd. Am I crazy thinking this way?

They gotta be thinking about going DT with that 1st pick.

Bills 34 - 24

The last game, the Ravens ran some blitzes where they overloaded rushers from one side, usually, the right side and it was pretty effective. Josh is going to be prepared for that this time. I agree, the passing game is going to be opened up more. I expect there will be some passes on 1st down and 2nd down. They can't blitz every down. I also think our group of receivers will have the Ravens' defenders heads spinning. By the second half, they'll give up on the blitzes and send more people out into coverage, to no avail. Add in Josh's uncanny ability to go off in big games, I think the Ravens are in for a very rude awakening. i don't care that the Bills only scored 10pts the last game. That is not happening this time. Not even close.

The Bills don't have to change their scheme. All they really need to do is keep the running lanes closed up with the big boys and then send a speedy run blitzer from the edge to hit Lamar every play. If he is handing off to Henry, doesn't matter, Lamar still gets hit. If Lamar keeps it, all the better, he gets sacked. The run game can easily be stopped. Our defense was fooled by eye candy the last game. Don't expect the same result this time. They've got lots of tape on this Ravens attack and I think the defense is going to be prepared. Force Lamar to try something else like roll out to pass to avoid getting hit. I fully expect the Ravens to lean into the run game, though. If this is what they want to do, I honestly think that will play into Buffalo's hands. With that big offensive line of theirs, it's going to be dirty work for the Dlinemen. Perhaps we see a practice squad DT called up for this one.

This could be a big game for the RBs as receivers.

38-20 Bills Good defense, but can't stop this.

This is what I'm thinking. Paying over 10M/yr is crazy for a RB in this league unless he's basically that team's whole offense. Cook isn't that.

I've been thinking about how the run game has enhanced the effectiveness of this years offense too and wonder how much Kromer has been an influence. Honestly, I think the Bills quietly have a very good group of position coaches and that was also true when Daball was here. Joe Brady isn't doing this by himself. Add in how special Josh Allen really is and Joe Brady is sitting in a very favorable position. I think Joe Brady isn't making the bone headed mistakes his predecessor did and that by itself making him look really good. I like him, but I'm not ready to make him out to be amongst the greatest offensive coaches in history. He simply hasn't been around long enough.

Looks like Joe A. is going to be playing in Terrel's place. I'm curious to see how he does. He's pretty instinctive, but wearing the green dot is no easy task. Hopefully Terrel is good for the playoffs but I'd like to see Joe step up.

I think the Bills defense has had only a couple of really bad games this season and the one against the Ravens is at the top of that list. However, I don't think their offense is the kryptonite that nearly everyone around here seems to think it is. The Ravens had a very good game plan against us, both on offense and defense and were able to control time of possession. The Ravens got lucky with a huge Henry run right out of the gate to put them up early. Also, they did a good job of sending blitzers after Josh. To me the game seemed kind of fluky. I just can't imagine the game going the same way twice. The offense was kept off of the field for long stretches and when they did have the ball didn't do much. I think getting everyone healthy is going to be huge for our defense and our offense. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but this team as a whole just seems more dangerous heading into the playoffs than in years past. A lot of that has to do with health. I see the defense making some big plays deep into the playoffs. Maybe it's just me...

A battle for momentum in the 4th. Is it me or does it seem that both these offenses have been lucky to points on the board? That last TD was a beauty though run, run bombs away....lol.

With Sauce Gardner out, I wouldn't be so sure.
