Joe Buscaglia's 7 round Bills Mock draft (paywall)
Rockinon replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Barkley would be a 3rd string QB. You can't have 3 active QBs on game day. -
Looming Stefon Diggs Contract situation - What do you do?

Ask Josh if he is willing to contribute to keeping his friend on the team. -
Beane has said protecting Josh is a priority. Not sure how much he is willing to invest there. So far, we have 2 OLmen from FA. Gotta get CB and WR help simply because of the number of players lost. Wonder if one of our WRs decides he doesn't want to retire since he would have a legit chance at a Superbowl ring? We do need RB too. Everyone who says best player available is crazy if they think that decision isn't influence by need. CB makes the most sense to me. Perhaps a trade down. I believe there are quality WRs later on. Someone was saying that trading down and acquiring more picks would actually lower the cap. All I know is, Beane has surprised me every single draft. This is a guy that knows how to think outside of the box. Have no idea what he is going to do next. I think CB, WR do the most to help the team in the 1st round, but WR is deep. OK, now I'm rambling... Gotta be CB, right?

Honestly what do you do moving forward?
Rockinon replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
Both of the tackles drafted last year were considered to be the most athletic in their class. Maybe they are banking on Kromer being able to do something with them and the rest of the OL for that matter. I think there is some logic to that. My opinion is that the OL was playing re-actively instead of taking it to the defense. That is certainly true in regards to the run game. It took half the season before they began to figure things out. Just seems to me that coaching has a lot to do with that. Still think we need more help on the interior. We need a backup center. The one we have is one concussion away from a career ending injury. We need some real power on that interior or at the very least some guys that know how to pull. Can't run with power if you don't have any and can't pull without some speed. I think the coaches took to long time to figure out what kind of a line we had last year. That is something I think Kromer will see right away and be able to suggest who to get to help out. The real need though is not focusing so much on the run but rather keep Josh upright.....something that should be teachable. I'm kind of excited about how things will play out. The OL clearly had issues through the first half of the season. I think issues will be addressed quickly this year. -
He is listed on the Bills roster as a LB. The way defenses are run today, they don't really designate whether they are running a 4-3 or 3-4 anymore. There have been so many hybrid schemes that take some principals from each and modify what individual players are expected to do. Miller is a speed rusher and at 250lbs can barely be called a DE. The Bills will have their own spin on his role. In a 3-4 they used to call his role the joker. But there are still variations. He can change from play to play DE/LB. That's just what defenses do nowadays. What you don't want is to pigeon hole what his role will be. Offenses have become very varied. Defenses must do the same or be left in the dust. So in essence, Miller will be both. A LB and a DE. He will have a role that can change from play to play, but if I had to guess it will mostly be to get after whoever has the ball and blow s**t up.

How many roster spots are still in play?

McKenzie becomes the backup QB. There, problem solved. -
Bills sign DT Tim Settle, formally of Washington Commanders.
Rockinon replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
Pro Football Focus has Settle ranked as the No. 106 free agent in 2022. PFF’s projected contract terms for Settle is one year at $4.25 million, with $2.25 million total guaranteed. -
Edit! McKenzie is back on a 2 year deal worth 4.4 million

What if no one bites on Cole Beasley? Could be a trade piece once the season starts. A WR goes down injured somewhere, someone could come knocking. In the meantime, I'm happy that we have one less position to fill. -
Lot of C/G in that list.

Interesting article. The chart shows that Cole Beasley was in the slot 94% of the time and Stephon Diggs 51% of the time. I remember seeing an article that the Bills want receivers that can play both in the slot and out wide. The passing concepts seem to be pretty good on this team. Josh's new QB coach, Joe Brady is supposed to be great at drawing up passing plays too. I like the direction things are moving and can hardly wait to see who is added to the WR room. Personally I think our smartest move is to find help in the draft, but Locket would be a pretty nice move too. Beasley, McKenzie and Diggs have been very successful out of the slot. No reason I can think of why another slot WR wouldn't be successful too. Having a QB that can throw anywhere on the field really is fun too.

Danielle Hunter, DE, the perfect trade candidate

Why is he a projected 2nd rounder? -
Good point. It seems to me that the defensive alignment rarely changing also makes it easier to grade individual players. I almost wish the defense would throw some more wrinkles in. Mix things up more. There is talent on the DLine. I think the coaches should allow the boys a little leeway to run some more exotic looks. Have a hunch it would be effective because these guys are rotating and staying fresh. It also puts pressure on the offense because they will have to be prepared for some new coming. To me, it just seems that the coaches are keeping the DLinemen in predictable alignments and not changing things up.

I'm excited to see how Kromer gets the OL going. He may even make Ford a better version of himself. Coaching is a big deal for a unit like the OL and Kromer not only is adept at teaching the OL how to attack but also at drawing up running plays. This could be one of the biggest moves of the off season. The passing game under Daboll was exceptional, but his running plays left much to be desired until after midseason this year. I believe Kromer will have some play designs that will help the run game right out of the gate next season. A couple of pieces added to the OL could really make this offense legendary.

I absolutely do think a rookie CB will see the field before a rookie WR. There's far more depth at WR. The CB's on this team are mediocre to awful with the exception of one. No WR is just going to handed starting role. After listening to Beane's interview, sounds like he wants to protect Josh. Could be we are both off.
-
You could be right. With Allen still slinging it to Diggs, Davis, and Beasley, the offense is still going to make plays. Don't forget Knox and the running backs can catch too. Thing is, any WR brought in is likely just going to be a backup. I want the #1 pick to be a significant contributor. Someone who is actually going to play a lot of snaps. Look how long it took before Davis started getting significant reps. A beast on the OL or a really good CB will do that. WR will take a long time to actually contribute. Not to diminish the importance of playmakers on offense....I certainly see the need. In all honesty though, I think the front office will continue to prioritize the defensive line.
-
WR is a sneaky need for this team with McKenzie's and Sanders' contracts ending. Speed is something the offense needs to be successful.
-
I went with Elam as well. He would probably see the most playing time out of the gate compared to any others here. If you want an upgrade with our first pick, it has to be someone with a chance to play a significant number of snaps. I also like Linderbaum. Excelled as a wrestler, shotput and baseball in HS. Kid has game. He would have been my pick if he was a little bigger. At 290lbs, not sure he is a 1st round guy that can take on NFL Dlinemen. Looked great in college though.

Dorsey ran a lot of 12 personnel packages
Rockinon replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
We need an OL coach since Daboll poached ours. Running 12 personnel would be possible with another legit TE. I'm thinking though, that we really need a good OL coach asap to help evaluate OL talent before the draft. I'm thinking it took way too long to get the running game going this year. Coaching issue? Maybe. My biggest worry is that the OL takes a step back next year. Hope they have a plan. The running game finally took off when they started doing things like the pin & pull. They wanted to be more of a power running attack but once they started pulling those OLmen, they began to get the run game going. Whatever the personnel grouping they have, the number 1 issue will be to continue their success running the ball. -
Do you really want a rookie Offensive Coordinator ?
Rockinon replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
A new OC may want to make a bunch of changes and then the players themselves would have the learning curve instead of the OC. An in house promotion would allow the players to hit the ground running. Not saying this is the best option, because hiring experience has advantages too. Going to be interesting to see which way they go. I think I am actually leaning toward an experienced OC because the offense took half the season to figure out how to defeat two deep safeties. They did, but a different perspective on offensive game planning may actually be a good thing. -
I agree. I also think the way to beat KC is to win more games than them and then force them to play in our house when the playoffs come. It seems some want more on offense to send it into the stratosphere. Looking back on the season, I keep coming back to the team's inability to stop the run. KC put up over 140yds running last night. NE beat us by running. Colts beat us by running and being multi dimensional. And anyone who watched that Tenn game could see that the D needed 3 guys to tackle Henry. The D needs some run stuffing muscle. It also needs to be better at diagnosing plays (Is it a run or a pass?) On offense keeping Josh upright is paramount and this offense clearly isn't itself if it can't run the ball. Josh's needs trump the needs of the defense, but man it's a close second place. Now how can we solve both problems in the off season?
