  1. It seems to me, with the NFL increasing the number of regular season games, that they should also be increasing the size of the roster. Multiple teams are really beaten up after that many games.
  2. Defenses were putting sometimes 3 DBs in Diggs area of the field. No receiver even in their prime is going to dominate in that scenario. I think there may have been some frustration on Digg's part but the bad attitude is largely overblown. It became necessary to scheme other receivers open because Diggs was drawing too much attention. Brady was right on the money by spreading the ball around and getting other players involved in the offense. The Bills are going to continue with that philosophy. Spread the ball around, use presnap motion, blend in more running concepts, utilize the TEs and work in some passing concepts that get WRs open quickly. There will be deep concepts too, but there will be fewer attempts in an attempt to not force it. I have high hopes for Brady's success and Allen growing into a more complete and experienced QB. All of the pieces are coming together. It's no longer going to be the Josh to Diggs show. It's very much going to be the whole team coming together approach and that is a good thing.
  3. Having a healthy Von will be nice, but DaQuan back healthy is going to make this defense dominant. The LBs healthy too. There's a really good chance the entire D sees a resurgence this year.
  4. Was talking about Brady the QB. Not Brady the coach. I think Brady the coach mixed things up better. More run plays. More presnap motion. Sometimes it isn't about statistics and just more about having a feel for the game. I think he sees the big picture better than his predecessor. Don't really have an opinion on if blitzes changed when Brady started calling plays.
  5. You are right. This is a major contributing factor on why defenses blitz often. Allen has always struggled with screens and short yardage dump offs. Another contributing factor is WRs like Davis couldn't consistently catch a short yardage pass. Defenses never had a reason to do anything but have 2 high safeties and send an extra blitzer. They do this because they are simply not afraid of quick dump offs. And it is an area where Josh must improve. We have a lot receivers capable of taking those quick hitters and some with run after the catch ability. Now it's just up to Josh to deliver. Brady was never blitzed because he got rid of the ball so quickly that defenders were needed in coverage, rather than blitzing. If Josh never masters short passes, he'll continue to be blitzed more than most QBs in the league. The OL IMHO has been great and not really the reason why Josh has had to scramble often. Defenses with dominant DLines could crash down the middle, but most of Josh's scrambles were because of a blitzer coming off the edge. I'm hoping to see more consistency from the short pass game and for rushing attempts to be consistently successful. Do this, and the deep game will naturally become more dangerous. Take away a defense's ability to stress the offense and they will have to try something else.
  6. He's improved dramatically compared to early in his career in that regard.
  7. I think Kincaid leads the pack with Shakir right on his heels, both near 1000yds. After that there will be a committee of lower tier receivers. To early to tell for sure.
  8. With a relatively healthy DLine.....Over. A lot over.
  9. Also said the Edefuan was the best "zone" LB in the entire draft.
  10. The front office is going to sit on it until a midseason injury forces them to fill the need. Might be a smaller under the radar signing in the short term but there won't be a big ticket signing. Not even close. JMO, of course.
  11. Coleman is going to be used in ways that Davis never could master. He will be running a lot of shorter routes. I see some folks have set their hair on fire because all they see is short routes and that isn't Josh's game. Some are thinking that we have an excellent RB room and are thinking that they will be used to set up the pass and while that's true to an extent, I think that many of us are over simplifying what the plan may actually be. I'm looking at some of the WRs that have speed and thinking there are quite a few of them. What is the plan for them? It's my belief that guys like Coleman, the TEs and the RBs will all be used to set up a deep passing game. If your RBs are rushing and getting lots of short area work in the passing game, your TE's are getting short passes, Coleman is getting short passes, what is going to happen with that second safety? He's certainly going to creep closer to the LOS. That's when we're going to see one of those speedy smurfs streaking downfield deep. Perhaps Kincaid will get in on some of those deep balls. Josh has to be able to reliably hit those short passes. Doing so opens up the deep pass. Brady likes to get all of the skill position players involved and that is not a bad thing. The offense is going to be mixing things up better. Gabe Davis couldn't catch a short pass to save his life and the safties on defense never had a good reason to creep closer to the LOS as a result. Coleman is going to change that with his sure hands and short routes. He's also got some run after the catch ability. I honestly think that defenses are going to be set up for the kill shot going deep. I think that's what the offense wanted to do last year but couldn't entice a safety closer. That's about to change. I also think there is work being done to improve run after the catch. The offense is going to be much less predictable this year with Diggs and Davis gone and an everybody eats philosophy. In summary there is much more to the offense's skill position players than many believe. The skills are there to give a defense fits. All Brady has to do is keep mixing things up and spreading the ball around. Josh is going to have some fun this year elevating the team around him giving everyone their opportunity.
  12. I think Josh will start off slow and gradually get better as the season progresses. He's got a lot of young guys, new guys, to get on the same page with. Might take some time. Hopefully training camp gets the new guys up to speed quick. Maybe he surprises me and has a career year, but that just seems like a tall order. However, I think the running game is going to be fantastic this year. That's going to take a lot of pressure off of Josh.
  13. Interesting, yes. Says Coleman is creating a lot of underneath separation. Exactly the kind of route that Davis struggled with.
  14. You are trying to pigeon hole these guys into specific places. This offense requires all receivers to play both inside and out. For the most part, Coleman will be on the outside, yes, but that isn't all he'll be asked to do. Same with Shakir and Samuel. Their speed will be used to go deep and go to the outside. There will be a lot of interchanging routes by all of these guys. The notion that there must be a big X receiver who is also fast is greatly overblown. Many here seem to be of the opinion that this offense has no speed but that simply is not true. The combination of having all receivers playing outside and over the middle, while also mixing up speed and route running ability basically makes having that speedy big X a luxury that isn't really needed. Another element that is overlooked is the running game and production from the TEs. It's going to be really interesting watching how the offense finds the right balance of run or pass. Short pass vs long pass. There are a lot of talented skill position players and the move away from the Josh to Diggs show late last season was the right decision. The offense needs to evolve.
  15. Very interesting article. These tight formations under Shanahan were successful even with Purdy who IMHO never should have been considered an MVP candidate, worked. The system worked and it wasn't because Purdy was so great. Just imagine this same kind of system with Allen running it? We all ready saw some of these concepts after Brady took over and the result was excellent considering that Brady didn't even have a preseason to install this system. Defenses will not be able to employ 2 high safeties which means there is always going to be a WR in single coverage. I think Brady could very well be setting up the best offense in the league. The great thing about this type of offense is that all 11 players are considered a blocker and you can run and pass out of this formation. The defense can't tell pre-snap what is coming. The WRs can run a multitude of different routes and the addition of bigger bodied WRs is definitely by design. It also aides in running the ball. It's a really good system that puts stress on a defense and doesn't allow them to diagnose the play and blow it up before it even has a chance to develop. With all 11 players lined up between the hash marks, that's a lot of bodies to go through to get to the QB too. I think Brady might be on to something here. Are you saying our team is lacking in talent?
  16. Agreed. A healthy offensive line and skill players will also do wonders. I'm happy to see we are still adding depth to those lines.
  17. I think the Bills are going to lead the league in rushing this year. Add in the young depth at WR and TE and the Bills are going to have a nice balanced attack. Kincaid, Shakir and Cook all put up some numbers last year and it was clear, the second half of the season, they all gained Josh's trust. There is a perception by some that we should focus more on the passing game because of Josh's undeniable passing ability, but defenses are built to defend the pass. There were times when our passing attack seemed to regress as a result. I'm not saying that Josh isn't going to sling the rock, but I do believe there will be some emphasis on the rushing attack. Not just to have a balanced attack but to build a team that can't be stopped, no matter what a defense tries to do. The RBs we picked up in the draft are no slouches either. Another thing we are going to see is a lot of is pre-snap motion. When Brady took over we were surprised to see it used significantly more often. And Shaw66 is correct about a lot of crossers and occasional deep shots. One of the misconceptions about our offense is that we don't have any speed. We do. They aren't big X receivers but they are very fast. Those deep routes aren't going away. They just aren't going to be Davis or Diggs. We may see some different looks in the way routes are run and in the way plays are schemed up, but Josh is still going to put up some numbers. One thing is clear. The ball is going to be spread around and at the end of the year, we are going to see it running like a well oiled machine. It might take a few games to really get rolling with all of the youth, or Kincaid, Shakir and Cook step into larger roles and we pick right up where we left off from last year.
  18. This is very close to what I've been thinking. I think the offense figured some things out toward the end of the season and will only get better from here. There were all ready some young play makers on offense last year. They are now going to have bigger roles.
  19. Our #1 receiver might end up being Kincaid.
  20. The UB kicker. Came on strong his senior year. Going to be some kicking competition in camp.
  21. OK. After much digging I did find a quote. Here's the link: https://www.dawgnation.com/football/nfl-dawgs/sedrick-van-pran-granger-buffalo-bills-2024-nfl-draft/YM3MTB6JPJEJTN5UEMXY5V6JEU/ Maybe we have a competition at long snapper in camp. Now I'm intrigued.
  22. Going back and reading some of the replies on this thread, now I'm not sure if he really is a great shotgun snapper. Is he? And if he is there really isn't that much difference to long snapping. This is actually a sneaky good signing if true. We carry a long snapper on this team and that is literally all he does. If this kid can long snap it allows us to get rid of long snapper and add another player to the 53.
  23. A very underrated trait, especially on this team. This frees up a TE so he can run a route instead of staying in to block. Adds a lot to this kids value.
  24. I think you nailed it. There for a while, the Bills kept getting small fast receivers. We were all joking about all of the smurfs on the team. Ultimately, there were problems scheming some of these guys into our system and there were definitely issues with dropped passes and injuries. Starting with Kincaid, we found someone with size and good hands. Coleman is very much in that same mold. As a side note, I think the Bills the overall philosophy changed after the playoff loss to Cincy a couple years ago. The Bills were bullied in that game and that did not go over well. It is looking to me like the Bills are looking to become the bully. From the beefing up in the trenches to the skill position players. They know they have a great QB but clearly they also intend to run the ball. The entire way they are building this team is to get back to some smash mouth football.
  25. You could tell that the Bill's brass changed their thinking in the way they select WRs last year when they picked up Kincaid. He was considered to be the best pass catcher in the draft, even among WRs. Coleman also is a good pass catcher. Not really sure if this works out since he will always be matched up with a CB. Considering he has Josh tossing to him though, his chances increase significantly. As for the meltdowns about his forty time, I'm reserving judgement. Perhaps the coaches have some ideas on how best to utilize his skillset.
