  1. Are you talking about that hit on Mathews after the sack? That was after the play and usually they tack it on. I didn't completely understand why that was different except that the Patriots were involved.
  2. I agree. It's almost like if baseball's rules were 1st team to score wins and the visiting team is always up first.
  3. The confusion will arise when Whaley acquires players that Ryan doesn't want. I agree that they should both be reporting to a football president or, as with most teams, the head coach reports to the GM. Optimally, you would want the GM and head coach to work together to evaluate available players and determine those that are the best fit. Say the Bills are going to pursue a veteran QB and Whaley wants to get Cutler and Ryan wants Sanchez. Who makes the final decision? Is Pegula knowledgeable enough about football to make the call? Is he a great decision maker that could hear both sides and then make a decision?
  4. I also heard an interview of Andre Reed by Freddie Coleman on ESPN radio. Andre was asked what he would do if Rex Ryan called him and asked him to coach the receivers. He replied that he'd be all for it.
  5. I eventually got used to the red helmets but the current white ones are a cleaner look. Just don't bring in any quarterbacks that confuse them with other white-based helmets.
  6. Yeah, same with the Toronto series. How many more Toronto area residents bought Bills tickets (or even became fans) because of that series? Based on how the Bills played in those games, they probably turned off more people. Yep.
  7. If we had a sarcasm font, it would've been clearer that I was joking. Geesh!!
  8. When I see the name Mike Rodak, it reminds me of Modrak.
  9. Just noticed that the last time the Bills made the playoffs in 1999 was the year before they moved training camp to St John Fisher. The only times they have been real successful, training camp was held south of the city. In the AFL glory years of the mid-sixties, camp was in Blasdell. For the Super Bowl years, camp was held in Fredonia. Time to move it to a location south of Buffalo.
  10. The heck with Ingram! I was just looking at a list of free agents from RotoWorld and at the top of runnung backs (unless it's a mistake) is DeMarco Murray. Go big or go home!
  11. I was just reading about Rex. After the early success with 9-7 and 11-5 seasons with wildcard berths and getting to the AFC Championship, the Jets began the 2011 season (Rex's third) with a 2-3 record leading to discontent within their clubhouse. Apparently, they deviated from the run heavy philosophy and began to pass more and the offense struggled. Hopefully he learned from this.
  12. So is the Combine to some extent. Why have offensive linemen running the 40? The Combine would tell you that Chris Borland is too short, too slow and his arms are too short to be the prototype MLB. Your eyes tell you he just makes plays and that's what he did in his rookie year with the Niners. He should turn out to be a steal in the 3rd round. Compare that to our illiustrious Aaron Maybin who had a lot of eyepopping numbers but was a good example of "Look like Tarzan, play like Jane."
  13. I remember that game vs the Colts, but I remember it as he was interviewed before the game and said "neither of these teams are going to make the playoffs." The Colts won that game and made the playoffs. I think, as Marrone did, the head coach should be positive about the chances of making the playoffs until mathematically eliminated.
  14. Yeah, the Niners had LaMichael James and hardly used him. They have another small back in Lindsey Hunter but he wasn't used as a scatback. It was up-the-middle or off-tackle like CJ has been used. Gore was the guy and now they also have Carlos Hyde.
  15. Did anyone catch Aaron Rodgers signal calls in their game yesterday? On one possession he was calling out "New York! Bozo!" Unfortunately, that made me think of Rex.
  16. I wonder if hiring Roman would have him interested in joining the Bills.
  17. Kapernick's play regressed this year under Roman/Harbaugh, which isn't a good sign.
  18. For what reasons do you like Roman?? He was almost as puzzling as a play-caller as Hackett/Marrone. With an established solid running game, the Niners kept switching to a spread formation which failed due to the O-Line's pass protection struggles and Kapernick's indecisiveness and poor decisions. Their offense struggled as much, if not more than the Bills. The Bills scored 343 points vs Niners 306. I know they have excellent defenses in their division but that's only 6 games. The Niners passing game was 30th in the league (the Bills were 18th) despite a better QB and arguably a better corps of receivers in Boldin, Crabtree, Vernon Davis, Stevie and Brandon Lloyd. And remember the questionable play calling at the end of the Niners recent Super Bowl. It could've been Harbaugh but Roman was the OC. I think Roman would be a bad hire.
  19. It would be more like paying a fee for the right to buy a car.
  20. Maybe they got sick of the confusion of two Dave Smith's?
  21. I've heard several interviews with coaches, like on ESPN radio, who say they tell their players to not look at that stuff and get worked up about it. So, Marrone does it himself?
  22. That's just wrong. I think the coordinator positions are another level and should be recognized as such.
  23. I can't believe with the list this long that they're not considering Gary Kubiak. Oh wait, he was coaching this past week and is ineligible to be interviewed this week, too. Of course, we'll be rooting for the Ravens to beat the Pats. They should put a moratorium on interviewing coaches until after the Super Bowl to make it fair for everyone. College football should do something similar. No interviewing until after January 1st. It's stupid when these coaches take another job when their school is going to a bowl game and either they just leave or the school tells them to get lost. The kids then have to play with an assistant coach as head coach.
  24. So what was Polian expected to come in and do? A proper consultant evaluation would be to determine if they had the right head coach. Sounds like he wouldn't have done that.
  25. Could it be possible that Orton retired because he didn't like playing for Marrone & Hackett? Would be a shame if he did and now Marrone is gone. I recall in one of his earlier games, Marrone was sending out the punt team on 4th down and Orton waved them off (not that we haven't seen that before). Then I think it was the Detroit game where Orton just took over on the last drive. Maybe he got fed up with the play-calling? Thoughts?
