Lacanfora:Showdown could be brewing b/w Whaley,coaches
BobbyC81 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm also getting sick of his down right avoiding the truth. That video went viral last week of him & Thurman walking side by side when Thurman calls the refs "a disgrace to the NFL" and when asked about it in the post-game pressed he plays dumb. Then today he says nobody on the team quit. What does he call it then? Many of them acted like they didn't care in the 1st half, especially on defense. I give them credit though for actually being more competitive in the 2nd half. With them being mathematically still alive for the playoffs, how do they come out and play so poorly? -

Despite living in Northern California, I don't watch the Niners but my friends who are Niners fans tell me that most of what I tell them about the Bills offense this year is what they saw with Roman in SF. The issues earlier in the year in getting plays in while the play clock was running down, which it seems they're actually doing better at. Going away from what was working in the first half. Failure to consistently get the ball in the hands of the weapons like V. Davis & Crabtree. -
Off Season Needs: Draft and Free Agency

I don't agree with you guys on the TE need. They just spent a lot of money on Clay and don't use him enough. Maybe they can bring another guy like Mulligan as a blocker but it's a pretty low priority. After spending big bucks also on FB Felton and rarely using him, maybe they get more of an H-back -

Carucci doesn't expect any offseason changes...
BobbyC81 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The to-date results are that the Bills finished 3-1 vs the AFC South, with a very disappointing loss to Jacksonville, but are 0-2 vs the NFC East. A .500 record vs those weak divisions. They are currently 3-2 vs the AFC East with 2 close wins vs N.E. where a win vs the Jets in the last game puts them at 4-2. The other conference losses were to Cincy & KC, 2 likely playoff teams. So, their current 6-7 record comes from an inability to beat the better teams and some disappointing losses to weak teams. -

In the Bills organization, the GM acquires the players and the head coach coaches these players. WIth the acquisitions of some ex-Jets, Ryan may have some influence with Whaley but we don't know how much. Speculation about the handling of Cassell leads one to think they may not be completely working well together. -

I read it can be brought on by anxiety. Did he have it before he started playing for Rex? -
I've never understood most of these pre-snap rules. Why do the linemen have to be motionless in their 3 pt stance? What's the purpose? Why do some of the receivers have to be back a step from the line? What's this rule for? It's just more rules for players, coaches and refs to remember. And another thing, since all NFL rosters are 53 players, why do they have to pick 47 to be active? Why can't they all be active? With the number of injuries, especially with the concussion protocol, I'm surprised teams haven't been caught with too few active players at a position. Roger Goodell, Keep It Simple Stupid!

Boobie Dixon's unsportsmanlike penalty

Yes, I have wondered how the head coach interview process went and specifically with Rex. Were any of them smart enough to say "We have millions invested in our defensive line. How are you going to use them?" or, because of Rex's reputation did they assume he was going to use them properly and not try to force them into his scheme? My guess it was likely the latter and they probably didn't even get into such details. -

We also don't know what the coverage was on the shorter routes. There was one replay of a deep attempt on a 3rd and short that showed a receiver wide open over the middle. -

Yeah, and the one time A.Smith takes successful deep shots is against a Bills defense giving him all the time to make those throws. -
I was just reading that Larry Fitzgerald has written in his contract that when they play the Vikings he must catch the 1st pass. That's hilarious. Not watching tonight's game so I looked at the box score and sure enough. The Cardinals got the ball 1st and the 1st play was a 5 yard pass to him. I wonder what the provisions are if someone else caught the 1st pass. So if he was triple teamed and two other receivers were open the QB can't throw to them?

One practice I've noticed that is getting annoying is that after a score there's a TV timeout. They come back and have the kickoff and then there's another timeout for like 3 mins of commercials. I DVR everything these days so I fast forward thru commercials but it's still a pain. I don't remember this happening before. You explained it even better.

If they could get him cheap, it wouldn't hurt to see if he can rebound after reuniting with Roman. Kaep has lots of faults though. When he is running free and throwing on rollouts he can look great. When a defense or his coaches force him to stay in the pocket he is horrible because he can't read defenses or find a 2nd option when his 1st option is covered. After throwing 2 pick sixes in a game on sideline patterns earlier this year, it got in his head and he became reluctant to throw towards the sideline or when he did he threw it short so it couldn't get picked. I don't know if he'd be doing any better if still playing for Harbaugh and Roman because he showed signs of regression last season but he sure has lost most of his confidence playing for the clowns they have coaching this year. -
Yep, I often wondered if Joe Montana would've become a Hall of Fame QB if drafted by the Bills in 1979. Same for Tom Brady.

IIRC,in the 2nd half of the 2004 season they may have had their best stretch of games (6 game winning streak) during these last 15 years with convincing wins and an offense led by the running of McGahee. Despite the disappointing finale vs the Pitts backups, things were looking up for 2005 but a 3 game losing streak after an opening win sent them on their way to a 5-11 record.

Because the coaching, other than Def Coordinator, appeared to be horrible last season and an established head coach and Offensive Coordinator were brought in. Incognito was added to a poor offensive line. McCoy, Harvin & Clay were added as offensive weapons. It was presumed the defense would be just as good as they were last season and the offense would be improved. Well, the offense has been significantly improved (9th in the league in points scored) but the defense has been much worse than last year. Roman may still frustrate fans with his playcalling but he's light years better than Hackett. I believe most Bills fans expected an increase in wins over the 9-7 of last year and an end to the playoff drought. It can still happen but is unlikely.

NFL finally holding refs accountable?

And there are only 7 referees on the field with 22 players running around, some at high speed. It's not an easy task. -

This Browns' team is so snake-bitten. A potential game-winning FG is blocked and taken back for the winning (losing) TD?! It's probably for the best for their draft position though. I have a feeling Johnny eventually ends up in Dallas.
