Please define that. They "tried" with Losman. They "tried" with Edwards. They "tried" with Fitz. If they "try to find a top-flight QB" this time, who should they zero in on and at what pick? And, given the Bills drafting track record over the past 12 years, how much faith should anyone have that they will make the right choice? Whomever they draft at 10 must be an impact player our of the gate. No more 3 year plan of development like Maybins, McGahees, Losmans, & Spillers. So, which player and what position can you immediately plug in from day one? You make the call so we can have someone to praise or someone to admonish if the guy succeeds or fails.

If Peyton Manning goes to the Jets...
Dr. Trooth replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You believe RGIII can match Peyton TD for TD? Can RGIII sack Peyton? Can RGIII intercept Peyton? Can RGIII stop Peyton? Can RGIII stop the run? -
So, why no love for Fitz? How was 6-10 his fault?
Dr. Trooth replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No doubt. You need a franchise guy. However, 5 of the last 10 Superbowl winners had "FRANCHISE" QBs that were not 1st round picks. 7 of the last 10 Super Bowl losers did not have franchise QBs that were 1st rounders. Going back further, Favre and Warner were not first rounders. Sure, if you don't have a franchise QB and one is sitting there when you're on the clock, you take him. But, how do you know for sure you're drafting a franchise QB, and is the team committed to him? For every Peyton Manning there are several busts... Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russell, Vince Young, JP Losman, Brady Quinn, Jason Campbell, Matt Leinart, Tim Couch, Cade McNown, Akili Smith, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsey, Byron Leftwich, Kyle Boller, Rex Grossmans. Every team making those selections believed they had their franchise guy. Don't know about you, but I have zero confidence that the Bills organization would recognize a franchise QB. They'd either pass on the right guy or draft the wrong guy. For this draft, after Luck, who is a franchise QB? Who is a sure fire 10-13 year guy that will consistently rank in the top 7 and deliver a SB? -

Dr. Trooth replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I Never said Fitz was a franchise QB or the long term answer. Just that 6-10 ain't on him and the Bills would be stupid to draft a QB at #10 with all of the other glaring needs (Bills avg. defense ranking over the past 7 years is 23rd). All was well when the Bills were 5-2. Everyone was giddy and loved Fitz. Then the Wheels began to fall off. He'd already lost Bell, Parrish and Jones. Then Wood, Fred, Chandler & ultimately Urbik. And then you lose your kicker. When Lindell went down, FG accuracy plummeted by over 20%. What QB, be it a franchise QB or otherwise, can function when you lose 8 key players on offense... and especially two of those guys that call the line signals and snap the ball to you in the shotgun? Please, name one that's done it and made the playoffs. I get it about the no excuses stuff. But, I'm sick of this rebuilding schitt. I can understand why you still have faith in the Bills organization. Afterall the Bills have exhibited such sound judgement in drafting in the 1st round. Whitner at #8, at #9 Spiller doesn't remind me of Thermal, and Maybin, Lynch, McGahee, Losman, McCargo. Yeah, let's draft a QB at #10 this year.. RGIII. Yep, the Bills will get this one right and the Superbowl is what... 2-3 years down the road? If nothing else, it will sell tickets next year... that's the priority, not winning. -
OK...Fitzty started out hot the first four games with a QB rating over 100 which, by season's end had plumeted to under 80. Why? Does he just flat out suck? Maybe? Maybe not! I won't try and BS anyone that Fitzy is franchise QB. He aint. But, his defense ain't worth a piece of pig turd. Not only that, from opening day to the end of the season, the offense lost 6 of 11 starters plus Roscoe Parish. What QB survives that? Especially in his first full season as a starter? So, he puts the team on his shoulders, and in doing so tries to do too much. Throws 23 picks... not all of which were his fault. And the 23 sacks allowed. That was more a credit to Fitzy getting rid of the ball quickly than it was the offensive line. Hell with a patchwork Oline, he was still making them look better than they really were. So, why is anyone calling for his head? If the Bills offense were playing with a full deck most of the season, would you still be calling for his head? I doubt it, because the Bills would have been a wild card team despite the defense. The offense did not let this team down, nor did Fitzy. The defense was the problem, and has been the problem for several years. Even with McGee, Kyle Williams, and Merriman in the lineup, the Bills never ranked higher than 28th. So, why do we have fans calling for the Bills to draft a QB with the 10th pick? How many brain cells does one have to lose to come up with a gem like that. Do they think RGIII is the second coming of Cam Newton? Well, whooptie doo if he is. Last I checked Cam Newton and the Panthers were 6-10. What, no miracles from Cam? How come the 7th ranked QB with a defense ranked only two notches below the Bills didn't get his team to the playoffs? So, Cam had better numbers than Fitz. Did he lose 7 key players on his offense in doing so? No. Did he win more games than Fitz? No. Then, with those fanslogic, the Panthers should draft a QB with their first pick. Yep... Bring Rogers, Roethlisberger, Brees, or whomever you want to be the Bills QB. This team still aint going to the playoffs with the 26th ranked defense and an offense as ravaged by injuries as the Bills were this season. But, let's still blame 6-10 on Fitzy. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Gailey REALLY should be fired
Dr. Trooth replied to BuffaloWest's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gailey's only made two gaffes... 1) Hiring George Edawrsds as his DC 2) Compensating for that gaffe by hiring Wanny. Yes, Edwards will get canned. But, mark my word, if the Bills turn over DC duties to Wanny, that's even worse. Two years into a transition to a 3-4 and then go the other direction to a 4-3 sets the team way back. And lastly, why all the love for Wanny? Since his days with Jimmy Johnson ... 15 years ago, the dudes been a loser wherever he goes. And that includes Buffalo. Look it up if you don't believe me. -
WTF did I just hear on Sunday Football
Dr. Trooth replied to Lv-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NBC has the live feed fromm the stadium soundboard as well as mics for the ambient stadium sound. I'm betting the dude at NBCs soundboard opened that part of the audio feed. -
Stand in line. I think there are 53 adults on the Bills roster that are filing abuse complaints againts the Patriots right now.

if ralph owned the packers?
Dr. Trooth replied to dwight in philly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really, really bad attempt at even attempting to make an analogy that Rodgers/Fynn is remotely close to Flutie Johnson. For one, the Pack is 15-1 For two, the Pack never gave up a #1 for Flynn For Three, Rodgers wears a huge piece of metal on one of his fingers that means something For four, you really need to count to 500,00 before you post something. Dude, we all make mistakes and I hope you have a great 2012, but boy, that post was stupid. -
And with the 10th pick in the 2012 draft,
Dr. Trooth replied to rocwocka's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The last thing the Bills need is to select someone that they cannot plug right in as a starter from day one and play at a high level. there is no WR @ #8 that will do that there is no LT @ # 8 that will do that there is no DE @ #8 that will do that there is only one player the Bills can plug and play @ #8, and that is Courtney Upshaw. He may not have the upside of some of the others. But he will start at the ROLB position and have an immediate impact. -
Ryan Tannehill should be our first round pick
Dr. Trooth replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fabulous. A dude that's started for roughly 1 1/2 seasons should be drafted in the top 10. Of course. Why didn't I think of that? Word on the street is the kid will be gone by the middle of the third round. -
Bills took a look at Ryan Harris this week
Dr. Trooth replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ryan Harris? Sign him up. Another trophy to go along with Merriman. Now, I'm tellin ya... Buddy is on to something this Quenton Moses kid is special. With 35 carreer tackles and 3 1/2 sacks, we need someone to disparage since Aaron Maybin got cut. -
It all depends. If you go to the 4-3 there will need to get rid of some LBs and DL and replace with the same. you have only one DE on the roster that can function adequatelty in it (Kelsay). The rest are 290 lbs. plus... all DTs in a 4-3. You have Barnett and Morrisson as 4-3 MLBs 4-3 LB. No 4-3 OLBs, unless you consider Scott, who will be a FA. You'll need a DC as well... and if you go 4-3, it will be Wanny. See Wanny's resumeSo, if you go 4-3, 75% of the moves made over the past three off seasons are essentially wasted and you now embark on another 3 year rebuild by stepping back from that. If you want to stay with the 3-4, you need only bring a high draft pick at OLB, a OLB FA, and a nose tackle. With a true and massive NT, Dareus and Williams can move to DE in a 3-4 and move inside as needed. You still have Carrington, Edwards, & Troup as the 2nd wave of linemen. Obvioulsly a new C is needed as well. One not named Edwards or Wanny. So, go ahead... choose what you want, the 4-3 or the 3-4. How long are you willing to wait for a top 10 defense?

Based on the Bills track record and their "cash to cap" directive, don't expect the Bills to sign any significant free agents in the off season. 1) I think the majority of us can agree, Merriman & McGee are finished, an their release should free up about $11M cap bucks. That alone ought to be enough to extend Fred a year or two and give Steve Johnson about $7M. 2) FREE AGENCY. I would expect the Bills will bring in one healthy, experienced OLB (of the backup variety) and a mid level wr with the ability to stretch the D. In fairness to Batten, it was essentially his rookie season without any offseason tutoring. Same with Moats, his second season, and no offseason tutoring. 3) DRAFT. Bills need a "plug and play" guy that can immendiately step right in from day one and make an impact, as Marcel Dareus did. The one thing the Bills can least afford to do in the first round is draft a project or someone who projects to a specific role or position based on potential or one hell of an impressive workout rather than the players body of work (I think we all know where I'm going with that statement). With the Bills drafting 7-12 depending on what happens this week, I think this pick is a no brainer, Courtney Upshaw. May not be the next Cornelius Bennett (or maybe he will be), but he is clearly the most NFL ready player that can step right in to a a 3-4 OLB role and make a difference immediately. After the first round they need a true NT in the 340lb. range (no way is Dareus 340 lbs. as listed). Torell Troup hasn't shown any ability to play at a high level or stay healthy and Kyle Williams can't hold up at NT for a full season (move to DE or inside in 4 lineman situtions?). The two NTs I have on my radar are Alameda Ta'amu and Kwame Geathers, both in the 350 lb. range. One or the other should be available when the Bills pick in round 2. After that, yes, the Bills need a solid corner or two. With McGee done and McKelvin on the bubble, the Bills need depth. After that, wr, tackle, safety, TE. I'd say a developmental QB, but that's a reach after round 2. Fitz ain't the answer, but he can hold down the fort for a couple years. Maybe next year the Bills will be in a position to grab a QB in the first round... not this year... big holes on defense. 4) We know Edwards is done as the DC. But here is where we need to be really careful. A lot of fans think that Wanny will take over. It could happen, but if it does, it signals two things... 1) Buddy has lost control because he's a 3-4 proponent, 2) Wanny only knows the 4-3 and the Bils only have a single DE on their roster (Kelsay) that can immediately function in the 4-3. All other DL on the Bills are 3-4 ends or 4-3 tackles. And, you have zero OLBs that can run in a 4-3. Folks need to take a look at Wanny's body of work and see that he was only effective when Jimmy Johnson propped him up. It was Jimmy's defense in Dallas and it was Jimmy's personnel that Wanny took over in Miami. He flopped on his own in Chicago and at Pitt and quit in Miami when he realized he was in over his head. I'm OK if the Bills keep Wanny as Asst. HC, but the Bills really need to bring in an experienced 3-4 coach... perhaps Mangini, Nolan, Pees, or similar.

Patriots have the same needs we do
Dr. Trooth replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You might want to do a little more research. 1) why would the 2nd ranked NFL offese need a deep threat? You don't think Ochocinco can get down field? 2) Patriots are 13th in the league in sacks. They've been w/o Ty Warren all year. He'll be back next year... that will help their pass rush in two ways... his own ability to rush the passer will free up the LB on his side to rush the passer. 3) If anything, the Pats need help in the secondary and at RB. -
With the injuries will they let Jasper play
Dr. Trooth replied to ....lybob's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, by my count, the starting 5 OL this week (from L to R) are Hairston, Levitre, Brown, Reinhart, & Pears. The only two healthy on the roster after those five are Sam Young and Michael Jasper. Seeing how NFL teams usually go into a game with at least 7 offensive lineman, and the Bills having only 7 healthy, then I guess you can take it to the bank that Jasper will be active... and probably play a few snaps. -
When you don't know what you are from week to week.... 5-2, 4-3, 3-4 you get the results we got. No way should it take 3 years to transition from the 4-3 to the 3-4. Greggo made the opposite switch in two. Shame on Ralph and shame on Buddy.... and shame on Chan for even considering George Edwards as a DC. A real DC would understand the pesonnel necessary to run a competent 3-4.

Supposedly the kid is a pretty good athlete. He averaged 18 pts. 12 rebounds and five blocks per game in his senior season in HS. but didn't get a hoop scholarship. Actually , ended up being a walk on for Mizzou football. 6"8" is to big for a center... need to get under lineman. However, at 325 lbs. and athletic, why isn't he being given a shot at LT?
-
I'd say Bowe and Soloai. But, they are "A" list free agents, so that ain't gonna happen. Look at the list of "B" and "C" tier free agents and you have a damn good shot at predicting who the Bills will bring in.

Well, The new unis announced earlier in the year were, essentially, the annual "sizzle" from OBD. If you can't dazzle em with your "on field brilliance" baffle them with BS... any flavor of koolaid will do. So, it would not surprise me if they make another uni change. I mean, hey, they have no plan to transform this team into a winner, so, "bidness be bidness". Gotta do someting to get the fans attention if you can't do it with "dub-yas" Trust me, Russ will have a fresh batch of koolaid ready this spring. I Garo-frikin-tee that.
