Not feeling comfy at #10. The consensus seems to be that it's Reiff, Floyd, or Keuchly at #10. Based on Buddy's history, He does not reach. At least not with a top ten pick. And, one thing I've said umpteen times. At number 10, you gotta come in and start from day one and play at a high level. So if all three are there when the Bills are on the clock at #10, which one? Of the three, the one with the most qustion marks is clearly Floyd. You see him going anywhere from 10 to 20. He has some baggage, and if you plug him to the Bills and he must start out of the gate and produce... I don't see it happening... especially when Chan has to work Spiller more into the mix... it means less targets for a rookie WR... and especially with Stevie garnering around 10 targets/game, I don't see Floyd with more than 5 to 6 targets/game. You don't draft a WR at #10 to get 6 potential touches per game. So, I rule out Floyd. Reiff seems to have his critics too, but nowhere near the level of Floyd's critics. Some say he's a RT, some say he has short arms. I don't know much about Reiff. And, my read on Buddy is that at #10, any player, especially a LT better be special. Last year, Tyron Smith & Nate Solder were the first OTs off the board at #9 & #17. But both are RTs. And, Carami & Sherrod came off at #29 & #32, but again, both are RTs. Costanza was the only Tackle drafted in the 1st round that ended up playing LT, and he came of the board at #22. So, how does Reiff compare to Costanza? The thing that concerns me about Reiff is, coming out of the Iowa program, two of his predecessors at LT have not panned out at LT... Robert Gallery and Brian Bulaga. Gallery was supposed to be all world but ended up being a guard, and for such a high pick, big waste. Bulaga is still at RT after two years, even though he was drafted at LT and the Packers have a need there. Again... #10 has to be plugged in as the starter from day one. Can Reiff? I think so, but what player can't be put at LT for the Bills and function to some degree? They've functioned with Bell, Scott, Hairston, Levitre over the past few seasons. So, yeah Reiff should be able to come in and out perform them all. But that ain't saying much. And, at #10 is that a good value? Dunno. Hope Buddy does. I also think a LT taken in the second round at #41 could play better than anyone the Bills have had there the past few seasons. Saffold and Veldheer were both second rounders last year and ended up being starting left tackles for the Rams and Raiders and seem to have bright futures. So... round two may be a viable option for LT. Keuchly seems to have no critics. From what I've heard or read, it's all good. And, don't think that OLB aint a position of need, and seriously. There's no question that he can come in and start at OLB from day one and clearly out perform either Morrison or Barnett. He might even be in the Clay Matthews stratosphere. So... I know the Bills sorely need a presence at LT. But, from a value standpoint I don't see how the #10 pick cannot be Keuchly if all three are there at #10. He's a sure thing. He would be the icing on the cake for a Bills defense that has been upgraded significantly and transitioning back the the 4-3. This significant upgrade to the defense will have an immediate impact on the offense... more than anyone realizes. Better field position, more turnovers, less pressure on the offense to score, more offensive possesions.

no way is Hawk tradeable. He has way underperformed his contract. He'd have to be outright released and clear waivers before anyone with 1/5 of a brain would sign him to a reasonable amount.
-
With emphasis on two words... "IF" and "THEN", your statement can be used as the basis in any "I've heard of him" bum that's out there that any fan wants as a Bill. What does Edwards bring to this team, besides slacker work ethic and locker room cancer? Great example for the younger guys on the team.

How is is that the dolphins are picking in front of us?

weaker schedule -
I'll throw this out there. #1 Hairston showed some promise before his high ankle sprain. Remember, like all of the rest, he came in cold to training camp, no offseason strength/consitioning, no OTAs or tutelage. With a full offseason of work it seems reasonable to expect that he could man the starting LT position. However, right now he has essentially no competition, and obviously, the Bills need to address that. which brings me to... #2 Colin Brown. This will be his third season with the Bills. Here's a kid that played pretty well the last couple of weeks of the season at guard and center. He was active for 11 games last season, so there must be enough ability there for the coaching staff to have him active on Sundays. And, he probably logged more plays than any of us realize at RG during the season. He also has prototipical Pro level left tackle size @ 6'7" 325 lbs. He played some LT in college. He was an 1st team allstate hoops player in Missouri and avereaged like 18 pts. & 12 boards/game. So, there has to be some athletic ability there to go along with his size. And, if I remeber correctly, Will Wolford, although drafted to play LT, started at RG during his rookie season because Ken Jones was the LT at that time. So, with some time logged at C and RG, plus some measure of athleticism, does the Bills staff have any plans to take a look at Brown as a LT? #3 At #10, is there a guy that can positively, straight up, line up from day 1 at LT and give you that rock solid anchor for the next 5 years? I don't think so. If you're gonna draft a player at #10 that you believe will be an outstanding player in a couple of years but ain't gonna be a guy you can line up from day one, you might as well draft a guy like Tannehill @ QB if he's there and you believe in two years he'll be a great player.

Wood hasn't managed to stay healthy for a full season yet. Franchise centers and franchise guards somehow manage to stay healthy and not miss games. This guy has two seasons left on is rookie contract. If the next two seasons bear resemblance to the first three, you're looking at a damaged goods FA that will have to take a pay cut. So, yeah, I'd be looking at a center... and one that's shown more durability than Wood.

Why Stephen Hill WILL be the pick at number 10.

Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill

Take em to Ted's Smokehouse for dinner and they'll both sign on the dotted line. -
He said "matriculate". My 2 pennies worth on this Peyton Manning fiasco is this. 1) He's done. He had fusion done on vertebrae. No way in hell does he have the full range of motion he used to have. 2) Why would the Broncos or Chiefs want him? And, if Peyton is gonna play again, he ain't gona play for backup money. Elway has another out if he needs one... Flynn. Either way he's sent the message to Tebow that he's persona non grata. SAme goes for Pioli. Does he think threatening Cassell with Manning is gonna make him a better QB? WTF? If he's chasing Manning, he's already determined Cassell ain't his man. 3) Why would Manning, with a fu--ed up neck, want to play 8 games minumum outdoors in a non tropical venue? What the hell are people thnking? 4) See number one. Put the fork in him and let the fat lady sing. He'll be first name on the 2017 HOF ballot.
-
Yer close. If Stevie walks, they'll sign Garcon for that money cuz he's got more speed and is younger Then they'll make Nelson their posession guy. They may bring in a WR by round 4, but generally go with the group they have and gamble that Easley is the real deal. LT at 10??? They'll go cb before they do that and ride Hairston like they did Bell til they can get another LT. Remember, at #10, you've got to have a player that is solid, contributes significantly immediatley and makes a difference. I don't seeing a LT @ 10 doing that.

with the 10th pick do we pass on Floyd?
Dr. Trooth replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, the last ND wr to be worth a #10 was Tim Brown. Branch would be a way way way distant 2nd. Unless Floyd's putting up Tim Brown numbers, where does the value come from? And, we know he ain't putting up Tim Brown numbers. -
Now Greg Williams is a cheater?
Dr. Trooth replied to mountainwampus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Shocking. Who'd have guessed? Well, let's not put too much thought on this. He comes from the Buddy Ryan School of Total Schittheadz, right? So, coaches in that fraternity have learned, encourage, and wear that stuff like a badge of honor. Go back and look at some video footage of bums in this fraternity. Would it surprise anyone to find that Jeff Fisher, Jim Schwarz, Chuck Cecil, Rex Ryan, Rob Ryan are all part of that Buddy Ryan Tree and that's all they know. Take that crap away from them and they might not even be average. -
somewhere, some way, somehow this seems like the second coming of Mike Williams. Can he line dance?

Levi Brown might get cut...

Word is, the Cards are nor enamoured with him and want him to take pay cut. He's better than Bell, IMO. But, that ain't saying much. -
with the 10th pick do we pass on Floyd?
Dr. Trooth replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Remember, Doc's rule... #10, you better be a diamond right from the get go. So... it is draft day, Bills are on the clock. Three... two... one... the pick is in. It's Floyd. OK... What should I expect from Michael Floyd this coming season? A #10 pick. 100 receptions? 200 receptions? 2000 yards? 20 TDs? What did the Bills just buy for a few million bucks? -
Like I've been saying. If you draft a player at #10, he better make an impact right out of the gate. This is a 6-10 team. And Buddy and Ralph have lamented the lack of talent on this tesam. Well. f--in do something about it. You can't reach and wait for a player to develop. It took Spiller more than a season and a half to get where he is... and just where is that? Even though he showed some flashes when Jax went down, we don't know if that's as good as it gets or that he can kick it up a few notches and perform to the level a #9 should. Bottom line, if the Bills can't grab a pass rusher at #10 that can play at a high level right now, they better get a player at another position that will.

Neither, nor. Cam's played one yr. Why don't we just put him in the HOF now. Guaranteed that def. coord. around the league know he was 75% of panther offense and now have a book on him and how to play him. Everyone talks about a franchise QB. Panthers won 6 games with God at QB. Bills won 6 Games with a Tomato Can at QB. Who wins? Take away either from their team and what do you have? Less than 6 wins. Cam is a great individual player. Fitz is not, nor does he have Cam's physical skills. So what. Would Cam have given the Bills more wins, or would Fitz have given the panthers more wins if they were in each others shoes. Wo knows? Didn't happen. Boils down to this. Fitz is the Bills QB... period. You don't have to like it, but you might want to get used to looking at that tomato can, cuz it's gonna be here for a while.

Next Years once in a generation player
Dr. Trooth replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
splain me. is there a white, hispanic, asian, russian, or scandinavian qb that we could pair up the athletic abilties with the three you mention? -
Who is trading draft picks for a QB? Only the Madden fan boys on this board that don't know schitt from schinola. Certainly not anyone that has anything to do with the Buffalo Bills organization. I get a huge laugh every time I see stupid posts about getting a franchise QB... like the Bills have had the opportunity to grab one. It would have been a riot to read the posts, after clamouring for them, if Joey Harrington, JeMarcus Russell, or even Vince Young had fallen to the Bills and been selected. Three years after drafting them they would have blamed the Bills for their ineptitude in drafting them while totally exhonerating and distancing themselves from even considering any of those guys. And then, turn right around and be clamouring for the next franchise guy for the Bills to draft. Now the Bills have the best QB they've had since the Kelly era, playing the second half of the season with a cracked rib and a decimated recieving corps, offensive line, and without the leading rusher in the NFL... and they expect miracles from Fitz. Well, even the great Cam Newton, that everyone wanted the Bills to trade up for, didn't win any more games than Fitz, and the mighty Cam had a softer schedule to boot. Geniuses I say.

Next Years once in a generation player
Dr. Trooth replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How is Cam Newton a once in a generation player? That's not determined in a single season. He accounts for about 75% of his team's offense. The consensus on this board is that a franchise guy... and certainly a generation guy would launce his team into the promised land immediately. Well, conventional wisdom might be that 6-10 is not what one would expect. Perhaps 10-6 or better. And, If I'd have said that the Bills starting QB would pass for over 4,000 yards and would rush for an additional 700 yds, what would you have guessed that their record would be? 6-10? I think this year, and true of a lot of players, not just Cam... is, there was no offseason and not your typical preseason. Players and teams with new and dynamic coaches or players, especially Cam, benefitted by opponents having very little, or nothing, to base their scouting and game planning of a player. Basically not much of a database or catalogue of how he'd be utilized, what his tendencies are, and how to exploit his weaknesses. Yes he had a good year. And, he will be scrutinized, and gameplanned for, relentlessly in 2012. I think then we'll have a better indication of where he might be slotted as a player. Now everyone is saying RGIII is the next once in a generation player. When it comes to QBs, the great ones have one thing in common... they get rid of the ball quickly and to the right player at the right time. They are able to do that because they are extremely intelligent and process information on the field in a nanosecond. It's the great equalizer when arm strength isn't at the top of the chart. I don't see RGIII or Cam Newton demonstrating any of that. They are phenominal athletes with great physical gifts, and for every Cam and RGIII, there is a Vince Young and JeMarcus Russell. And, Michael Vick, as physically gifted as he is and even playing on a team that the pundits had going all the way to Indy this past year, he wasn't much of a factor. -
Maybe Buddy takes another chance on an old Charger?

Yep. Just what the doctor ordered. 19 sacks in 7 seasons. -

4 Super Bowl teams. -
#1 wideouts make money catches. He's blown at least three games in the last two seasons. Do folks on this board think that a receiver with 4.7 catches is actually going to catch 90 or more balls and magically avg. more than 13 yds/catch? Johnson is in a position of leverage on a new contract simply because the Bills have backed themselves into a corner and do not have a better option right now. I don't have a problem with the Bills re-signing Johnson. Just not at the expense of the rest of the team. If they're going to spend big money on a receiver, I'd rather it be someone like Colston or Garcon.
