1. Lee is gonna toast a few cbs for TDs this season. I'd guess he'll break 10 tds. I say so because... 1) the Ravens have a solid and consitent running game with Ray Rice... so play action is a huge factor for Evans. 2) Anquan Bolden opposite Evans. Who ya gonna double? Choose your poison. 3) They've got an established QB, only in his 3rd season and getting better, and has the arm strength to air out down field 70 plus yards... something that Evans hasn't had since JP Losman when he had his 10 TD season. CBs may be able to run with Lee for 40 yds, but after that he's gone and a QB with a gun only has to throw it out there far enough for Lee to run under it. It only helps that Cam Cameron is the OC.
2. I don't know about this. But, a couple of things. Buffalo only has two professional sports teams. The Bills, like Greenbay and New England are really a regional franchise... which includes a good portion of the Toronto, Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton, Auburn, Utica, and Albany markets. The Sabres are regional too, but not as far reaching as the Bills, obviously. If Buffalo had one more professional team, they'd probably be in the top three or four, I would guess. Thus, no major league baseball team and also probably why the Braves moved to San Diego and which are now the Clippers. I'd say for those cities that have 4 or more pro teams, except perhaps Dallas, New York, Chicago, Frisco, and LA would have a hard time sustaining them. And, push come to shove one of those pro teams would take the hit... and NFL teams would be the least likely to take the hit... unless it's in LA.
3. Buddy must be getting extra points on his american express card for hosting barnett. I don't understand buddy saying "we're bigger" and then going after a small linebacker. from my perpective, in a 3-4 defense in a northern climate, if you don't weigh in at 245 or more, why bother?
4. FOr all the hoopla, I thought it was a disappointment. 60's uniforms with 70's helmets.
5. He's a playmaker. He's a sure tackler. He's solid. Why would the Bills want to keep a player like that? The Bills might have to cut Kelsay to keep Florence. Kelsay is better in the locker room, Florence is by far the better player on the field. It's a no brainer for the Bills FO. Keep Kelsay. Lose Florence.
6. I think the NFL should issue a waiver to the Bills so they can play 12 men on defense because their defense sucks so bad. So, allow both Jasper and Troup to play NT at the same time. But Jasper needs to stop losing weight and Troup needs to start putting it on... a little more time at the buffet and a little less time in the gym.
7. The dude can't help it. It's not that he's stupid. It's just that he's living evidence what too many hits to the noggan can do to guy that plays several years in the NFL. Heck, I mean, just the fact that he's contemplating a comeback has to be a clear signal that his judgement is way off.
8. but dont let the facts slow down your unbridled hatred Don't you think that might be a bit over the top? I don't think anyone wants to burn down Kelsay's house or assault his wife and kids. We're just debating his value to the team. I tend to agree with the masses. Whether he makes $2M or $4M a year, based on his performance, he ain't worth it. His strength isn't his pass rushing ability (or lack thereof) or in pass coverage. His strength is supposedly run support. Well the last two seasons the Bills are just about as bad as it gets against the run. I guess one might say run support is his forte... but, I say yes, moreso run support for the opposition. He plays, they run wild.
9. Imagine that. A few beat writers sitting in a bar talking with their friends who heard friends of their friends hear a few people talking in another bar in a another city that they're sure they heard some guys in another bar in another city talking in another bar that they heard Vince Young is gonna a be wearing a Redskin jersey this year. Doesn't get more definitive than that. Vince Young is now a Redskin. Mark it down and take it to the bank. Stone cold lock. Ya... imagine Vince Young being coached by the quintessential QB micromanager on the planet... Mike Shanahan. He's gonna straighten out all of Vince's mechanics and flaws... and in the process, magically make him grasp and understand the ultra fine points of playing QB, while turning him into a great leader. Can you say Tom Brady with an arm and great legs? Yes Redskin fans, hope is on the way.
10. I'm pretty sure the only reasons Whitner were offered contracts (tendered at certain levels... I thought the were RFAs) was so the Bills might Garner a couple of draft picks if they resign elseware. Nix has two players here, neither of which played up to the level of the money they were paid. Why would you want to pay more to get the same results from these two? Maybe you turn Poz into a safety since he makes most of his tackles 8+ yards down the field.
11. The Bills finally drafted a big fat slob nose tackle that I've been hoping for. Not exactly the one I'd wished for, mind you. But one big fat hombre' nontheless. Now some bigger wishes... 1) He stops losing weight 2) He wins a starting position 3) Bills don't get flagged for too many players on defense, counting Jasper as two players.
12. Well, I don't know how anyone could argue the Bills taking Peterson. Look at the Bills depth chart. Anyone comfortable with McKelvin and McGee? When was the last time either played a full season? McGee is breaking down physically and McKelvin gets toasted way too many times and seems to always make a bonehead play at the wrong time.
13. Not sure I know how I should behave on this one. After witnessing Ralph's ambivelence, reaping the worst decade in Bills history and no light at the end of the tunnel, part of me would absolutely love to see see mr. Ralph take it in the shorts big time. But then again, there's a part of me that wants to see this work. Sad thing is, at the end of every draft, we all get "woodies" and somehow "billieve" the Bills are going to launch their way to the top of the division, regardless of the cold hard evidence. Then during preseason, the Bills bring us back to reality and once again we suffer through yet another miserable season.
14. 1) What linebacking core (corps)? 2) You're not concerned about NT (If Kyle Williams remains the Bills starter at NT, you'll see the same result as last season against the run.)
15. Paea is a man child. Freakish strength. At around 300 lbs., he's about 25 lbs. light for my liking... if he projects to NT.
16. The Bills MO after the Donahoe years has been to lightly flirt with grade A free agents, but no touching, no signing. B grade free agents can be flirted with a bit more, but still no touching. C and D free agents are welcome and the Bills will pay more for them tahn any other team will. However, if a C or D free agents visit Buffalo, if they leave without their signature on a contract, the Bills will not give them a second chance.
17. True. However, in no way do the two compare. Larson was a 295 lb. DE in a 3-4 from Norway who had never played football prior to coming to the US. So, he had no instincts or even mauch, if any passion for the game. He also did not have much mobility. This sumner kid is a Nose Tackle. He's not going to be asked to make a lot of tackles. He's going to be asked to take up space and smash the schitt out of the center and move his ass back 3 yards. The kid looks like he dominintaes at his level, which he must do if he has any aspirations of playing at the next level. He also looks like he has a lot of passion for the game. Now, the caveat... 6-2, 335 with that kind of strength is enough to raise some suspicions as to steriod use or some banned substance. He's definitely worth a draft pick simply because of his size and dominance at his competiton level, plus the fact that the NT position is the Bills single most dire need. Without a big fat run stuffing slob at nose tackle, the Bills won't even come close to being higher than the 20th ranked defense, if that.
18. Given that the Bills single biggest need (no pun intended) is a big fat nose tackle (I think it's more than fair to say that Williams & Troup are clearly not the answer), why was that position totally ignored in your draft? Without that big fat NT, you can expect that the Bills defense, as has been the case for several seasons, will not stop the run.
19. I don't know about Taylor. Maybe, maybe some other NT. But, I'll assure everyone, here and now... no 330-360 lb. fat slob in the middle to eat space, then you can expect several more 200 yd. rushing games by the opponent. If the Bills are serious about the 3-4, they'll start at NT... which they should have done last year.
20. Thank you Scott Berchtold and Russ Brandon. If ya can't put a good product on the field, just keep peddling a fresh batch of ice cold koolaid. Koolaid he-ah, get yer koolaid he-ah, ice cold koolaid.
21. The downside... five years from now the Bills will be selling the 2001-2010 jerseys as "throwbacks". Anything for a buck.
22. I agree 99%. The 1% I do not agree with is Shaun Rogers. He is a POS (Sam Adams light). The funny (or distressing) part is, as soon as Gailey was announced HC, he says he's switching to the 3-4. Well, if you're serious about that, the very first place you start is at NT. And, there ain't a 3-4 NFL defense worth a schitt that doesn't have a massive presence at NT. What do the Bills do? Go with a pair of 310 lb. dudes. Result... 8 200 yd. rushing games. It got so bad, they didn't even know WTF they were week in and week out... 3-4 or 4-3. Well, if you can't decide definitively, you're neither... and it looked that way. Williams at DE in a 3-4? I don't know. I hope so. He has leverage, but he'll be matching up with LTs that have long arms that can keep him off guard. My gut feeling is that he cannot be effective at any position within a 3-4. However, a 4-3 defense (like the one Indy plays) I think he'd be in his element and could become an all pro (and not just a 2nd teamer like this year). Bill Polian could make a sweet deal with Buddy for Williams.
23. This one has me dumbfounded. The only plausible answer to this that I can offer up is... "not starting on any NFL team". I don't express that to be mean, but, because Poz sucks. The only reason he started for the Bills is because they had no one that was any better... that was healthy enough to play.
24. Smart money has him landing in Seattle, Minnesota, Arizona, Washington, or maybe Miami. To me, Seattle or Washingtom seems the most logical. He could reunite with Carroll or the Skins could offer up a package that would include Haynesworth, one of their TEs, and a #1.
