Deshaun Watson officially requests trade from Houston
colin replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
so mcspeedy to the bills for our 1st can happen! i know, it's not likely, but that and a DE in FA, re sign williams, draft OLB and OG and cb2, maybe TE or whatever (pickings get slim quickly) and i think we are in the superbowl. the ne style O that dabol likes is a hell of a lot more effective with the RB coming out catching the easy wheel routes and screens. a burner like mccaffery will either toast the D, or make them commit to covering him, which means beez, diggs, and friends can shine. -
5-0 without him, he said it, he knows it, he's just sore. he had limitations when he was healthy, not someone who can beat aggressive man coverage, and he had a couple weak plays which essentially cost us the houston playoff game. if he never got hurt, i think he continues to put up numbers and is still a bill, but he's been hurt way too much to be an asset on the team for what he's getting paid. and to royal w cheese: all these nfl contracts are structured with guaranteed and up front money for players to get cut. in some cases, it is so prohibitive that it basically can't happen, but other than that, it's in the contract and the CBA, players can get cut. there are about 2000 people who can play in the NFL, with the bottom 1k being nearly totally interchangeable, and a couple hundred come into the league from college every single season and they are young and cheap. there are 32 teams, and that's it.

Mitch Morse Re-Works Contract per Ian Rapoport
colin replied to Dont Stop Billeiving's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
positive news! i gotta say, given morse is getting kept cheaper, i think it's one of williams or mongo getting retained, not both. unless they think they can get RB and OLB cheap in the draft or what have you. based on mccorch's past, the DL is gonna get real attention. that's his bread and butter. -
i still have (slim, very slim) hope that knox improves, partly based on what i thought was a better effort in the playoffs. but you don't play with 1 TE on the roster, let alone 1 TE on the field all the time. if he's cheap, i'd totally grab Rudolph. he'd be our first vet TE who can actually block and catch and isn't a Mash unit in a loooooong time.

watson is a sick qb, it's just that Josh is better. Josh was raw and it showed, but he's more talented and that also shows. watson does great things on offense but came out of college at a top skill level. Josh's skills have improved month to month and he's much much better now than when he started, and is going to get even better. so, watson in 2018 >> Josh allen 2018 Watson 2019 > josh allen 2019 (and it was kinda close, at least at times) Watson 2020 < Josh allen 2020 Watson of the future << Josh allen of the future

Dion Dawkins Open Letter: Part 3
colin replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i don't really think just having a weapon on you without papers in nj gets you 5 years, at least not practically. im guessing dawin's brother had some other stuff on the rap sheet. we do have some draconian laws here in NJ tho. -
i like it all with 3 concerns: 1) dunno if that LB fits our scheme. he just might not be fleet footed enough, not certain but that's my feeling. 2) not improving at OG. i think that's one position that we can improve on in a hurry that will pay dividends 3) not improving RB and TE production. I know you have us drafting a guy late, but i think we need an actual impact guy at either of those (or both, but i doubt that hard) positions. of course, if your rb is that kinda playmaker then this is a slam dunk, and the LB does fit, all good except i think we need a nasty OG.

So do a Diggs type deal this year for a DE?
colin replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
because they already paid his bonus so you get just about the most dangerous RB in the NFL for our offense at a reduced rate, to me that's worth a pick, and josh's new money will hit hard in a couple years so im happy to get guys who can play now and pay now. -

For crying out loud, it's the last line you quoted dude: if we don't trade for mccaffery, etiene or whoever could be the guy to be the 1 to moss's 2, im really not certain on one player over another. i'd assume we could get OG in the 1st and RB in the 2nd. if, IF, we don't trade for mccaffery, we can get an OG in the 1st. if we traded our first, i think it's rather evident that we wouldn't be able to use it on an OG. -
Texans coaching staff on Watt - bitter or truthful?
colin replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
fact. i remember, and i think it was in SI when they did actual reporting, a nameless test for a new EPO test they had (so they couldn't bust anyone, so no names) found the entire field was positive for EPO. they hand waved about maybe the test being too strong, but it seems like it was correct. IMO, like pro bodybuilding or olympic weightlifting (and i say NFL football as well) cycling just isn't a sport that humans (or at least not enough of them to have a big competition) can compete in without PEDs. biking up and down mountains at break neck speeds for days and days is basically super human. -

well, not that watt is gone, my dream offseason is to trade a first and possibly even a future pick for the super RB in carolina. i know it's a pipe dream and won't happen, but you throw him on the O, and we might be harder to stop than KC. i say we throw cash at a pass rusher in FA, cut some dorks who didn't produce last year, sign williams at RT, cut morse and brown, sign mongo and move him to C, draft a good OG, and get OLB (if that's not who our pass rush singing is), cb2, and TE in the draft. we'd have to wiggle a bit to get it all under the cap, but i think we can do it. if we don't trade for mccaffery, etiene or whoever could be the guy to be the 1 to moss's 2, im really not certain on one player over another. i'd assume we could get OG in the 1st and RB in the 2nd. -

i have no doubt he is awful and totally full of himself. i also know he has at least at time freelanced in a bad way. i remember with tyrod we beat houston. one play at the goal line, watt just like kept changing the gap he was rushing, came in and smacked tyrod down for a sack. the next play, he did the same thing, tyrod caught him in the wrong gap, and tyrod just walked in for an easy td. given how our D is run, and who are coaches are, i think if watt signed here we woulda just had him rushing the passer like a psycho, which suits him well, and otherwise just controlling a single gap, which he is more than capable of doing. our current wood on the DL does not get up the field like maniacs for the most part, and also lose gap control, so watt would be a huge improvement. -
Phil Villapiano, JJ Watt, and the 2021 Buffalo Bills
colin replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i keep wavering on watt. on one hand he's old and banged up and won't come cheap. on the other hand, mcd's D scheme has shown that when he has horses up front he can create controlled chaos on D while stopping the big play and rallying to the ball. if watt can be a solid pass rusher from inside and out, and get the guys up front to handle their assignments well (star coming back adds some confidence for me on this) and bring up epenesa, he could be a huge London Fletcher on the D line kind of addition to the team. -
not a fan of the big contract qb's getting cold feet after the fact and getting traded (if it happens, anyhow) but given his contract status, wilson has to be worth 2 firsts +. a top fight qb at like 23mm per year for 3 years is a massive come up. i suppose he could lose out not having his WRs, but sometimes a change is needed. id say chicago or pittz if ben retires is the best spot, but pittz has cap issues and evidently wilson isn't targetting chicago. he'd instantly be the greatest qb ever in that town, would create a huge buzz.
-
considering we paid dude from carolina who is further past his prime and a lower prime like 10mm, i don't think 14mm is out of the question. im assuming he still has plenty left in the tank. trade for mccaffery, sign watt, draft OLB and OG, as well as TE and DB, and im ecstatic about the team. wow, i thought it was like 10 per, was it really that much? maybe that was the first year payout. shocking

Bills suggested as trade spot for RB Christian McCaffrey?
colin replied to WNY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
don't think this is likely, but if it's for just our 1st, or possibly like 2nd this year, 2nd next year, and we add the OG i keep talking about (no idea who tho), and some kind of DL/pass rush help, the difference in our team is insane. moss to mcaffery is a huge 1 2 punch. those swing passes to the outside which are basically always there for us with our high flying O go from hoping motor catches it to just savage yardage gains. also, those quick hitter runs vs a passing d have a shot to break one. i even think it makes knox more valuable, because the LBs will have to key on the RB in passing D, knox can find the flat a little easier. -

related to this thread: do you guys remember when the blind side came out? i remember around that time a comedian who is a buffalo guy was on the nfl network, and they had an open question of who are the first 2 players you get if you are building a franchise. obviously it's qb and either pass rush or offensive playmaker (back then maybe shut down corner), and this buffalo guy said book end tackles. now part of that is him being scarred by our horrible ol play, and perhaps not being able to fathom a competent QB, but that really reflected to me how everyone tried to outsmart themselves and go from undervaluing blue chip tackles to over valuing every fat guy w long arms. and then the litany of bust off LTs drafted top 10 just kept coming. remember that guy from baylor went like top 3, got some monster contract (before the new rookie scale) and in his first few years ended up a back up on the jets? crazy stuff -

the more sort of breakdown tape i see of our LBs the past 3 seasons, the more i am convinced that in our D, milano's job is mentally much easier than edmunds. milano is really good at getting places on the field, and he's gotten better at taking on blocks, but his tackling technique is not really clean and he gets himself out of position sometimes. i've waffled back and forth, but i think if we can get a solid smart fundamental MLB (earlyish in the draft or even via FA if the money is right, a hyde/poyer type value) then sliding edmunds to OLB will make us all forget milano. from what i can see, they both have very similar roles, but the MLB in our D ends up having to diagnose more than one gap, decide on depth, and then go make the tackle. w our sad sack interior line play this season it left edumunds in the lurch way to often (his mistakes don'e help either). looking back at carolina when mccorch was there, when their pass rush fell off and big guys got hurt the struggled, but they still mashed people up when luke was out for a few games, so the interplay between the line and the lbs is not lost on me. one game that stands out a few years ago, was like 2014 or so carolina at SF. some low scoring slug fest. SF had a super physical gregg roman front, and carlina just straight up banged with them all day. i think if we get a couple monsters in the gut and improve our passrush edmunds and whoever can play disruption and clean up and get us to that level. -
Trade up or trade back in this year’s draft?
colin replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
well, we need one quality starter (judged by the end of the season/playoffs) at OG or DE/DT or LB in this draft. we also need quality production at 2 or 3 of those positions (assuming we get a starter), as well as CB, RB, and TE. im thinking we can get a solid and nasty guard early, TE and RB between rounds 2 and 5, and fill in the rest as we go. so based on that, i say you trade up if you think you have a shot at another rueben brown or something at OG, or a human missile at OLB (or MLB and we move edmunds, whatever). a real cover corner or pass rusher IMO will just not likely be there at the end of the first, unless he's a bit of a project, so OG i think is the target. now, if there are like 3 who will be there for our 2nd pick that we like, then totally trade down, maybe get a 2nd and a 3rd, and use that plus our 2nd to go OG, OLB, and one of TE,RB,CB, or DL. -

Could the Bills be looking to incorporate a Thug OL?

while he is basically a psycho who is one bad night from going totally off the rails, ritchie was loved by all of his teammates (except the one kid he bullied into retirement) and is a monster guard. -

ok, that was funny but also true. i think one single nasty talented G makes our whole OL much better, with the biggest benefit in the run game. im pretty sure a guy like that should be available late in the first in the draft. dawkins, nasty rook, mongo, ford, williams could work out to be a solid physical line. pick up an actual NFL RB to work w moss, and you got yourself a stew goin'
