Warren Sharp analysis on Bills draft needs
colin replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
we need an improvement in our run game, duh, and a BIG improvement stopping big runs. given we were the best in the nfl at stopping big passes, a pass rush would help obv, but we need some players in the gut more than anything. 1t and maybe a a DE who can bang (that guy we got w the african name could be that, i hope so anyhow). beyond that some combo of rb/te/og might get our run game going a little bit. after having rewatched the kc game (groan) one more weapon who was actually healthy on O (TE or RB woulda been ideal) and if we stop 2 of those break away runs, we absolutely have a shot in the game. when i saw it live it felt like we were dead after 4 drives, but in reality, a couple small differences woulda put us over the top. -
Vegas over/under for Bills' wins in '21 opens at 10.5
colin replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
id take the over, but if you look at all the teams, this is pretty fair. assuming donald comes back from his assault charges and such, rams at 10 and kc at 12 puts the bills at 10.5 or 11, so seems reasonable. -
i remember watching some sports look back thing and ditka made all the players agree not to do personal endorsement deals, and then iron mike went out and did some himself. he really was a look at me head coach, and his ego had buddy ryan leave and break up what could have been a huge dynasty team. think jimmy mac may have a point here.

im up and down on edmunds, and i still think he'd be a better outside backer in a more traditional 43 (which we aren't gonna run, so i suppose it just doesn't matter). the one thing that impresses me about edmunds, besides his truly elite athletic gifts, is that he is not up on his play one bit. in all the interviews he's had, he's simply not happy with how he has played to this point. he basically doesn't come off the field, and is super duper young, so i think he's set himself up to improve greatly this season coming. i think this is his make or break year in buffalo. he will right the wrongs and make the plays that he is capable of, and be consistent, or he is gonna be let go. given the continuity on the team, i think with another goofy covid off season it could put the bills in a decent advantage situation, so my expectation is that he shows improve.

we have a window right now to win it all, and our roster is deep so we don't want to draft players who can't make the team, nor do we want to draft guys who upgrade our backups (possible exception at OL and DL). i think beane makes moves up and or down to get the guys he wants who can make an impact this season (RB, TE, CB, DL) and drafts "value" freak athletes w high ceilings after that. if we walk away w a TE and RB who by the end of the season are no worse than 2nd on the team at their positions, and a 1 tech who can play with no real drop off from star, then this draft is a massive success and having those guys last year might have put us over the top. obv some kind of sick pass rusher would be awesome, but i just don't think it's in the cards.

SI: The Unrivaled Arrival of Trevor Lawrence
colin replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
no offense man, but you look terrible for your age. pretty strong body of work for such a young guy tho. -
total smoke screen, we are gonna abdicate our first 3 picks just to throw off the other teams! seriously tho, while pass rush vs coverage is a fair debate, i think given that we have 2 solid safeties, an all pro corner, and a play making slot corner (altho he is not totally consistent in coverage, who is?), the weakness we have at cb2 ends up being a target for the opposing O. a better pass rush IMO would take oliver and AJ getting better this season, and addison and houghs getting a big refresh, which i suppose can happen. biggest thing to me is that a rookie corner could come in and by like mid season be a solid starting cb2 in our D. that gets rid of the hole in the backfield, which slows down the o passing, which creates more time to get to the passer, and allows us to maybe take some more chances or disguise things better. unless a total stud falls to 30 at edge (and if one does, i really want to eat my words in this post and pick that guy, i just don't think it's so likely) a pass rusher is more likely to just work his way up a little bit in our DL rotation and get like 30% of snaps by late season, and while it could be a strong impact for those snaps, unless we get our new CB2 later in the draft we still have some holes in coverage. so, based on all of this, i wouldn't be surprised at all that we might take a cb w the 30th pick, but if we take a DE im gonna pretend i knew it and that he's the next freeny

he still impacts the game in the front 7 when he's healthy. he's obv hurt way too much, but he's still a good player. if no one ever heard of him and he was drafted in the 3rd round, he'd be considered a talented player who is hurt too much, although he'd prolly be cheaper. people keep paying him for a reason. when (if, really) he's available he can ball.
-
he's good (not great) when he's healthy, but ya he gets banged up. clevland has so many super stars. mayfield, obj, chubb, garrett, now clowney, and some other really talented guys too. very athletic team w a good Oline. might not be consistent over the course of a season, but any given game/drive/play they could do something.
-
if they both got tossed from an after hours place, makes me think there might be a first over advantage for dude w the mouse on his eye, and darnold might get in some trouble. if he gets say suspended for 4 games, does he lose his checks for those? given what he makes, and if this guy in the pic can sue him for some money too, this little fisticuff could cost darnold like 5MM plus! that's insane!

Any one have Espn Insider? Just curious about Kipers mock
colin replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if a decent speed rusher somehow falls to us at 30, and we get some big mean ugly for the gut of the d in round 2 or so, and i suppose RB, CB2, and G or TE or whatever later, im calling that a sick draft. -
Schein - Nine Make-or-Break players for 2021 (Ed Oliver)
colin replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if not having star beside him is the reason he mostly disappeared last season, then oliver isn't that great and star is pretty friggen good. ill say it again because i like to read myself type, but if a player doesn't make players around him better, and instead just reflects whats' there, he's not great and he might not even be good. this makes me not so hot on oliver and edmunds, given how they are our front 7 talent 1st round picks, and just haven't been consistent difference makers. -
Analysis of Emmanual Sanders Film (Athletic, Joe B)
colin replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
this is just it. instead of getting a calvin johnson type murder machine wr who can be open while being grabbed, the biggest return to our O with all of the hard to cover WRs and JA17 lacing ropes is getting some kind of real production out fo the RB and TE positions, pass and run. i suppose they are just convinced knox is about to turn a corner, or that new guy the signed is a sound player, but a couple outlets a game to gash the d would be the body shot compliment to the head kick ko's our O swings all day. -
well, the fastest impacting/easiest to transition to the nfl positions are RB CB MLB you can get day one starters at those positions all over the draft, w CB being the most valuable position, and thus often the higher pick. im quite sure we won't take an MLB early, so to get a day one starter, we need CB, RB, with a small shot at DL or OG, but i suspect the DL and OG left at 30 will be a cut below the top RB, and possibly below the CB they want (i just assume our FO can spot a DB from a mile away, and if a guy they think is a day one starter is there, i suspect they grab him, maybe even trade up). the above aside, that kinda leaves RB. if we get harris at 30 and he is what he looks like, athletic w good vision and a bruiser, that's a huge huge addition to our O. him on a screen or running against a light box will make it really hard to play d vs the bills. if our blocking soldifies (and it should, given we are bringing everyone back and cody should be healthy and ready) and we get like even average TE production, i think kiper is right that we might be one impact RB from a chip. ill trust the process on this, but i expect to get a starter at RB or TE, and (by the end of the year) CB in the draft. if we get DL (and i think we have to draft a big guy for the middle, but perhaps not first pick) it will just be a rotational guy (as all of ours are) and LB will be a backup anyhow.

GOLD!

well, this draft is oddly important. we've traded up with mixed success (one huge win, one one, one maybe win, a couple losses), but it's clear beane and co like to deal on draft day. if they have their scouting down right, i'll trust them getting what they think is an immediately disruptive edge rusher, which is who i think we'd trade up for. the only other trade up value i can think of, is another tre white level corner who can paste on the other side, letting mccorch play wizard with the front 7 and create pass rush that way. while a pass rusher is the most glaring need, if we can get young tre like production out of a rookie contract, that really is a no brainer. with the rotation we have on DL, although i don't think we we have now fits the bill, we have a shot at manufacturing pass rusher. our cb2 will be on the pitch basically every snap. mega lock down corners on a mcbean D is a scary sight.

Ro-ro for "Right Josh" Rosen
colin replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
like they used to say in drag racing, there is no replacement for displacement. attitude aside, rosen is just physically not nfl material. -
if he's cheap watkins can 100% help our team. speed and physical ability fits all shemes. if he catches 30 passes on the year, he'll break a couple, those could win games. having a secret weapon or formation (and you know dabol loves that stuff) for the playoffs or the best teams would be huge. assuming we don't do anything to improve our pass rush (we still need at least one more quality DL in the guts, im assuming Star isn't about to be who he was his first 2 years in the nfl) having one extra gear on O, even if it is monthly and not weekly, might be all we need.
-
the post in this thread about him being trade bait if it comes up i think has it right. someone's qb is gonna go down in training camp or pre season. when that happens, mitch for a pick or even a player gets very very tempting. still have fromm if the worst case occurs.
-
im confident we win the division, but these moves make the pats a much better team. at their best, they always had two solid TEs. watson and graham for the first 3 sbs, gronk and murder inc for a minute, and now they have these two guys. i know it's hack at this point, but we really really gotta figure out our TE coverage. hope our DL play improves so we can get back to 2019 form.
-
i rule nothing out, him trying to get a handy isn't exactly ken winslow jr type deviance, and houston trying to strike out at him isn't impossible. that said, if houston is doing this, it will totally poison the well with him, and quite possible other players as well. maybe there is a morality clause in the contract, and they just want to get out of it?

aside from cap discipline, i think the idea here is it opens the fake punt some w his athleticism, and gives us better results from mid field to pin the enemy back. given how little we punted, it does make sense to save money there. also, we kept mattlewitch, so i think our FO really likes our coverage team, a guy w a bit more accuracy and hang time vs howitzer leg might suit us better.
