  1. And there you go. I don't at all grant that mediocre starting Qb is Allen's ceiling.
  2. Cycling the way Jrober proposes seems to me simply a veiled way of saying what he's plainly said numerous times before. He doesn't think Allen will develop into a franchise qb. And really, if your guy isn' t showing real promise and some significant achievement after year 3, you're probably drafting a young guy anyway, so I'm not sure there is that much of a point there.
  3. The 1019 version never even heard of the game of football, so you have to cut him some slack.
  4. The game was too big for them -- still if one fella makes a block for Josh, its a W. And the refs were atrocious, six fingers ?.
  5. I really think you've nailed it. Processing what he's seeing on the field faster will determine if Allen becomes a franchise qb more than any other factor.
  6. Yep, though impartial is probably asking for a lot on a fan board. How about relatively rational? I am a hopeful optimist with regards to Allen. His rookie year was badly mismanaged. Second year, talent was at least NFL average at o-line and skill positions. TE is still below average, though Knox could make a leap and change that. He has the potential to be very good. O-line needs some maulers. I think you need to add another stud rb to the mix. Still have some worries about Daboll as a playcaller. All this contributes to how Josh Allen will develop as a qb. I'm fine with skeptics so long as they can admit Allen so far has progressed and that his eventual plateau is still unknown. What I object to is the notion that those of us who perceive "haters" on this board are delusional. There are a few and whether they are obvious or more subtle, they already want to move on from Allen because they "know" he is a bad qb.
  7. Thanks for the fine work you consistently provide to this board, Gunner. How early in the 2nd do you see Swift and Dobbins going? Think there's any chance Beane would move up to get them? I surmise it would probably cost too much to move up to the top of the 2nd. (I know, you can make a good case for edge or OT in the second. I am intrigued by the idea of a really excellent backfield; in any event, just hypothetical, even if unlikely.)
  8. Yes, I understand. The post you quoted is not representative. There are plenty of posts that are not game day where that fella went out of his way to gratuitously bash Allen (i.e., threads not even ostensibly about Allen.) A few folks here qualify for hater in my opinion. I find it rather bizarre that apparently many think there are none. The point is moot, in any event. If there is a season, Josh Allen's play on the field will determine whether or not he's a franchise qb and he should have sufficient experience, continuity, and talent on the field to demonstrate if he's continuing on an upward trajectory or not. I thought so, but this thread seems to call that into question.
  9. Nextmanup is not stating "expectations and everything is on Allen's shoulders." He presumes in a crusading fashion that Allen is not good and we ought to be moving on. Did you ever look in on game day threads? He's got an agenda and it's surprising you discerned no hint of that. I've read the fella numerous times and I've got a background in literature and philosophy, so reading comprehension is not typically a problem for me, but you know, you're free to give your own summary and conclusions and the folks who give Lombardi trophies for such are also free to enjoy their imposed free time in such a fashion.
  10. Well, I suppose it may depend on how one defines hatred. Go search Nextmanup or BringbackOrton. There are a few others.
  11. I don't know if we have the ammo to get early 2nd, but if Swift or Taylor fall I can't imagine them available beyond that point. (Dobbins is in that conversation, too.) Akers is the fella I like who might plausibly be there at #54, btw.
  12. I can think of three or four who only post so they can hate on the fella. They literally hijack threads to tell you he is not and never will be any good. You have to read very selectively to miss that. Nearly everyone agrees he has to play better and almost everyone recognizes that saying that does not equate to hate.
  13. Props for egads . . . The addition of Diggs is huge and D. Williams might turn out to be a very smart addition to the o-line, but the offense still needs addressing. RB2 or 1B or however one conceptualizes the position ought to be a priority. I like a few players for WR4 with some size, too, but I agree if Taylor inexplicably falls, Beane needs to move up to get him. As an UGA fan, I'm also partial to Swift, but I assume he's gone late first round.
  14. The answer is they never had a season. The NFL used a lottery system to determine the draft order. The Bills ended up picking 32nd. Now go out and cut the lawn. (Just channeling irate wifey. Love the fin-de-siècle aesthetic references. I wrote a novel with a significant character named Absinthe.)
  15. Just realized this is an illustration for well-oiled war machine. She seems nice . . .
  16. Hope there is a next season. Lots of gloomy projections from folks in the Herbstreit thread.
  17. Yep, this is the season God had scheduled for the Bills to win the Super Bowl. (The Divine has a dark sense of humor.)
  18. Shocked if Swift is available anywhere near 54. I"m an UGA fan, so biased, but he's going to be very good. I like Akers as the best back likely to be available at that spot.
  19. Don't wait till the seventh. Rodrigo is worth a 5th or 6th.
  20. The comment I was responding to was limited to whether we would sign an Edge. The Clowney or no one opinion is in that context. We have room for a few smaller free agent signings and vet rb is certainly one of the possibilities.
  21. Yeah, I think its Clowney or no one at this point, though if they sign Griffin we can start calling them The Get Off My Lawn Gang.
  22. The white helmet is much cleaner. Personally love the standing buffalo, but the charging buffalo is not bad. I can understand folks being nostalgic for the red because associated with the Kelly years, but otherwise it's right there with the Sabres' slug imo.
  23. I think they could find the money, but not unless he readjusts his expectations somewhat. He'd be great in our D.
  24. Clowney is still out there. I really hope Beane makes a pitch.
