A QB's confidence, or lack thereof
BuffaloWings replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had a concussion, also. I believe he played loopy the entire second half of the 2003 opener against the Giants....he & the Rams admitted that he wasn't right that day. He lost his effectiveness for a couple of years before the Rams let him go. It really wasn't until last year that he was the Kurt Warner we saw with the 1999-2001 Rams. As far as Edwards goes, I really think it's just confidence. As has been noted, he played well against San Diego two weeks after the concussion and seemed to be rolling along just fine in Miami until he threw that INT. On the next two drives, he fumbled on 3rd & 1 and fumbled in the end zone for a safety. He hasn't been the same since. In fact, the only time I've seen him throw a ball with some vigor since Miami was the laser to Royal last night on the last drive. Just like a golfer when you make a bad shot, you have to let it go or else it will affect your game for the rest of the day. Trent needs to build his confidence back....the coaches need to let him, also. -
The Bills Should Move to Toronto
BuffaloWings replied to Setrett's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they moved to San Diego first, then LA. -
Edwards throwing Lindell under the bus?
BuffaloWings replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see how that's placing blame in Lindell at all. That's quite a stretch. Lindell would probably be the first to admit that he blew it and if Trent is smart (like I think he is), he'd know better to throw a kicker under the bus when he threw 3 INTs. The second quote sounds closer to Trent throwing the coaches to the wolves. -
Trent had a bizarre amount of time to throw
BuffaloWings replied to Tcali's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cleveland was rushing 4 most of the night and dropping everyone else into coverage. EVEN SO, the Bills receivers were still getting open and Trent was *still* waiting too long to throw it. He had no confidence that he could zip the ball in there and would wait to see the receiver come open before throwing. Jaworski was right....he wasn't throwing the ball anticipating the receiver to be there. When he did, the ball would be late or behind the receiver. The 2nd & 3rd INTs were on Trent because of this. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
BuffaloWings replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Conversely, every Bills kicker in history that needed a game-winning FG (when the team was desperate) seems to miss it. Couldn't agree more. This is a slump period for Edwards that he needs to work out of. If they pull him in favor of a guy that has already proven he can't win, what does that say about the near future of this team? As our buddy JDG says, these guys are simply cover-your-eyes awful. The only reason for any pressure on Quinn last night was Kawika Mitchell and an occasional Marcus Stroud. It says something when we're begging for Aaron Schobel to come back. We have a KO returner again. Because of that fluid motion, McKelvin is sneaky fast. It looks like he might be wrapped up until he breaks through the wedge and has only the kicker to beat. The officiating has gotten so bad everywhere that I'm seriously wondering if the fix is in. The 15-yarder on Mitchell was weak, but not as weak as the illegal contact on Wilson that kept the Browns TD drive going in the 2nd. I've seen more contact at a badminton tournament. I have been defending Jauron for a while, but it ended last night. I don't know if he's been telling Turk what to do (and maybe Steve Fairchild, for that matter), but whoever is calling the offensive plays needs their brain checked. This is the 3rd straight week we've seen a shotgun formation on 3rd & 1 with only Trent in the backfield. I was ok with the first running play from the 32 with a minute left, but even with Cleveland calling timeouts, off-tackle runs right at Shaun Rogers wasn't going to do it. If you ever want to settle for a winning FG attempt, that's the way to do it. Herm Edwards did this exact thing with the Jets a few years ago in the playoffs that resulted in a missed FG that led to an OT loss at Pittsburgh. As for the positives, the running game was much much better, special teams were outstanding, and the defense played as well as they could while the Browns had short fields. I'm still a fan and proud to be one (though I haven't exactly pulled out the Bills winter jacket just yet). -
The real problem with Trent Edwards
BuffaloWings replied to jms62's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Too fragile" is a way to describe Rob Johnson, not Trent Edwards...at least not yet. Jaworski hit the nail on the head - the first pick wasn't his fault, but the other two were. On both of those throws, he waited too long for the receiver. He has to throw it with the anticipation that the receiver will be in that spot, not wait and see him open. But then it led to him being afraid the entire game to throw it even 10-15 yards downfield. The Browns picked up on his checkdowns and were stopping them by the 4th quarter. Trent had zero confidence last night. Lynch & Jackson were bailing him out with the running game and the runs after catches. But his best throw of the night was his last...down the seam to Royal on their last drive. He needs to take that into next week. -
First, I'd be concerned with someone's psyche if they were at all bothered about what Drew Rosenhaus says. That said, every other post here is pretty much dead on. I grew up in Jamestown, but moved to Albany because it was the first place my mother got a job after my parents divorced. I love WNY - I always have and always will. I visit friends in Jamestown and Lockport and see the Bills once a year. But I don't live there because my career won't thrive there very well. So, I still live in the Albany area. If the economic situation in WNY was better, I might consider moving back (the wife has this thing against cold & snow, though).

The "Official" Bills MNF gameday thread
BuffaloWings replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We need a win in the worst way. The Browns D has plenty of issues, but I'm still worried about being able to run the ball - especially tonight. I think they can still throw it (which would hopefully help my fantasy numbers for Evans), but I really wish they'd do some other type of running play than to run it right up the middle where Shaun Rogers will be waiting. On defense, can they put 7 or 8 in the box and force Brady to throw? Probably not, but I'd like to see some more blitzes - it's the only way they'll get pressure on the QB. I think this is key....it's Quinn's 2nd start in the league and while I don't consider him a true, inexperienced rookie, I do think he'll have trouble if there's pressure on him. -
I guess we can say, in retrospect....

You never know....that perception might have changed if he offered him the job. -
That Is The Last Time I Use A Visa Card
BuffaloWings replied to ExiledInIllinois's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we're being a little too sensitive here. Yeah, it sucks seeing all these commercials where someone is running roughshod over the Bills, but let it go. If we don't laugh at it, we'll all go certifiably insane....if we're not there already. -

Ummm.....John Fox worked for the Raiders? I thought he was referring to the John Fox that was the Giants' DC in Superbowl XXXV and was subsequently hired by the Panthers. Nevertheless, Donahoe did wait until after that Superbowl to interview both him and Marvin Lewis - the hot assistants back then. I think he was also the only GM to do so. Then he hired Greggo and watched Lewis & Fox go on to coach some playoff-caliber teams. -
Don't look now, but the Tennessee Titans
BuffaloWings replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is what scares me.... I don't think we'll ever see an undefeated or winless team ever again and this game sets up as one of the few that Tennessee could lose. The last thing on this Earth I want right now is to see the Jets win by Favre throwing up a couple of prayers or the Titans doing something stupid to beat themselves. I still don't like the Titans because of you-know-what, but I have all the respect in the world for Jeff Fisher. -

Bills would have taken Harvey over McKelvin
BuffaloWings replied to 2003Contenders's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love these threads. "We would have taken so-and-so if he was available." Not much we can do about this, so why bother worrying about it? -
Yes, that's how it works. The internet feed is supposed to be just that....they don't carry the game over the internet, just provide the in-game analysis and chatter. They will do a "live look-in" for a couple of plays every now & then, but that's it.

Why the Cleveland Game is crucial
BuffaloWings replied to Cotton Fitzsimmons's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. A win gets them to 6-4 and in decent shape. Add in a loss by Baltimore (to the Giants) or Pittsburgh (to San Diego) and the Bills would be no worse than tied for the wild card....albeit with 4 other teams. The schedule is in their favor for the next three weeks, but considering those games are against teams with losing records, these guys better be ready for each of them. One loss in these three games puts the Bills behind the proverbial 8-ball. -
What I'm sick of is the constant complaining. I love coming to the boards to talk about the team, but when we constantly see complaints about how horrible Jauron is when there is nothing that any of us can do about it, it gets old....fast. No, I'm not one of those "fans" who blames the QB for every loss and is "happy with the losing mentality". I was a fan during the Joe Ferguson & Joe Cribbs era (you guys know who they are, right?) and during the 2-14 years in the early-mid 80s. I love the team and I will always follow the team. Kelly is one of my all-time favorite players, too. I don't jump ship during a 3-game losing streak and claim that "I'm done with this team. I'm now rooting for the <current team with the best record in the league>." I'm a bills fan through & through. I'll root for them in Buffalo, Toronto, LA, or Puerto Rico, if need be. So when I say give it up, I mean it. It's tiring to see everyone here complain & gripe for days on end. Let's move on to Monday night w/o the sarcasm. I'd rather talk about what they need to do and how....instead of looking back at how things went bad. I'm pretty sure the players & coaches are doing the same.
-
I still think the Jets are over-rated and over-hyped because of Favre. He may be able to win some games for them, but he'll lose a couple at the same time. I didn't watch last night ( you, NFLN), but so far, the only good thing I've seen with the Jets is their defensive line (Jenkins is a man). Trust me...Favre will throw a pick-6 at the worst time and kill their hopes. I don't care about the division anymore, I just want the Bills in the playoffs.
-
I want him to be ready, too, but since it's his shoulder that's bothering him, I'm less concerned about this being another McGee scenario. A bum shoulder shouldn't limit his mobility...just how often & hard he hits someone.

Fix running game please
BuffaloWings replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, if we're complaining the Edwards is the problem, how do we expect JP to perform any better behind this offensive line? -
What is the MAIN problem with the team?
BuffaloWings replied to Captain Quint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For me, it's a tough call between the OL not opening holes and the DL not pressuring the QB. I'm going with the OL because if they could at least run the ball well enough, it could chew up some clock while leading to points. The DL could get some safety/LB help with blitzes to get some QB pressure. There's no help for the OL in the running game. -
Give it up. Let it go. Go away.

The Players should Pull Jauron's "Pants Down"
