A Few Thoughts About The Game
BuffaloWings replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
10 whole years, eh? Try doing this for 30 years (and I'm nowhere close to others here). I have never said in any way that I'm done with this team. I still believe...and I'll take that to my grave. -

I'll check the bandwagon in a year or so and see if you've jumped back on. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game

Nor should anyone. Saying that Trent had any type of injury is an insult to the fans, the media, and everyone involved with this team. I'd rather DJ call out Edwards and say that this will continue to happen until he gets better. He did this last year, too. Terrible way of handling this situation. -

Exactly my point. I'm not begging for a Cowher or any big name right now....just someone that knows how to strategize during the game and can organize a game plan that has a chance of beating the opponent. Don't forget to add John Fox to that list, btw. -
Agreed....no way Trent was hurt. Jauron was saying that so he didn't have to take any potential heat for putting JP in. Just tell us that Trent was ineffective and don't insult our intelligence, please. Ralph was pi$$ed after the Monday night embarrassment, so imagine how he feels today. I just fear that he either doesn't want to fire him because of of the performance....he probably wants to find an excuse like he did with Wade.

A Few Thoughts About The Game
BuffaloWings replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perhaps it's because they know the fix is in. I'm 99% convinced that the refs call BS penalties because the NFL hates Ralph. Looks like both Roscoe and Lindell have caught the fever. Lindell's killing my fantasy team right now. Why? He'll just play worse once he signs it. Note to Russ: trade down in April and draft a DE and a C in the first two rounds. I'd actually lean towards yes, believe it or not. I think the talent is there, but the coaching is not even close. -
First, the extension isn't official...all we've heard about is the rumors. Second, even if he does have an extension, it doesn't mean he can't be fired.

You mean like Gregg Williams or Mike Mularkey? Good idea. We need someone who can manage the game clock correctly. We need someone who challenges at the right times. We need someone with GOOD on-the-field game management experience. I'm tired of up-and-comers who get their experience here, get fired, then go somewhere else and be good coordinators. I advocated for Schottenheimer around the time Gregg Williams was hired and got shot down because he didn't win in the playoffs. Marty isn't a bad choice because he has won in this league and he has ties to Buffalo and Ralph. He has to be in his 70s now, but I'll take him.

In fairness, Jauron is not an offensive coach. He seems to be leaving the offense all to Turk, so I put a lot of blame on him...as much as I want the offense to succeed after last year's performance. That said, Jauron is ultimately responsible for the team's results, so he should be on the hot seat. I don't know how much the bad play-calling is him giving the direction to Turk or Turk having the responsibility.

A couple of questionable calls...including the pass that was tipped on the "pass interference" by McKelvin. In combination with the anemic offense, we get incompetent officiating. Does the NFL hate Ralph that much?

All in favor for Bobby April for interm head coach?
BuffaloWings replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be in favor of Meathead or Gregggggggggg right now. Except for the defensive line, I'm willing to take the talent we have into next year with a new coaching staff. Why is it that we seem to get someone in, they take us through 2 years of promise + a good start to the 3rd year, then we fall flat on our faces? -
Which Team will help the Bills out today
BuffaloWings replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually see these two as the most important....Baltimore & New England* are ahead of the Bills and they don't play Baltimore. At the very least, the Bills can help themselves against the Patriots* and Dolphins. I care less about the Jets, but if they start falling to earth, things get interesting. -
With the new stadium going up, isn't the parking a nightmare? The last time I was there was Jan 1, 2006, but I heard stories of nightmare-ish parking and shuttle buses, etc.

Kinda makes one appreciate guys like Walter Payton and Franco Harris (both played 13 years).

To my knowledge, Art Modell is still very much alive. He isn't the principal owner/president/grand pubah of the Ravens anymore, though. You may be thinking of Al Lerner, who was a partner of Modell in Cleveland and became the owner of the "new" Browns when they were awarded the expansion franchise. He passed away about 5-6 years ago and his son Randy is now running the ship. Nevertheless, I agree....Ralph was deserving of a Hall of Fame induction several years BEFORE Modell was even owner of the Browns.

interesting column on AFC playoff projections
BuffaloWings replied to tomdayfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, it depends. If Baltimore loses 2 more games and the Bills win out, the Bills finish AHEAD of the Ravens, anyway. No tiebreakers need to be applied. If the Bills lose 1 game and Baltimore loses 2, they'll finish tied. At this point, the first tiebreaker becomes conference record. Then we get a bit hairy.... The Bills have one more game with an NFC opponent (SF), while Baltimore has 2 (WAS, @DAL). If the Ravens' 2 losses come from WAS & DAL, they'll finish with a 9-3 conference record. The best the Bills can do in conference is 8-4, thus they'd lose that tiebreaker. If Baltimore wins those two games and loses 2 AFC games, they'll finish 7-5, thus giving the Bills that tiebreaker. If one of Baltimore's 2 losses come to an AFC opponent, they finish 8-4. Presuming the Bills win at least the 4 AFC games, they also finish 8-4 in the AFC. The second tiebreaker is record in common games - the Bills & Ravens both will have played Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland, & Miami. As of today, the Bills are 2-2 (1 game left with Miami) and the Ravens are 4-0 (1 game left with Jacksonville). The Ravens will win that tiebreaker. So, what we want to happen is one of the following: 1 - Baltimore to lose 2 games while the Bills win out 2 - Baltimore loses at least one game to an AFC team if the Bills lose only once All of that said, none of this addresses what happens if New England* is part of a three-way tie. -

The Jets are off the radar for now, if you ask me. I know they're only 1 game ahead in the division, but since they're in first place, we might as well not worry about them. I'm also not worrying about Indy because of their cupcake schedule the rest of the way. The teams to watch are Baltimore & New England*. The Patriots* need to lose 1 game before Week 17 and Baltimore would need to lose 2 - both of which are very possible. Since Pittsburgh plays both of these guys down the stretch, the Steelers might become our second favorite team. The most important thing is that the Bills win, period. They have SOME margin for error, but 1 loss is all they can afford. -

I think 10-6 is very possible, but I find it interesting that he has the Bills beating the Jets, but losing to Denver. I agree with the statement "Win either of the back-to-back road games in Week 15 and 16 and the Bills might have a shot". A huge key is Baltimore - if they win 2 of the 3 against Washington, Pittsburgh, & Dallas, they're probably in. If they do any less than that, the Bills have a shot. -
Agreed....good post and I'm glad to see a refresher of how Ralph should be viewed. Ralph also lent money to the Raiders and Patriots* in the 60s to keep their franchises afloat and keep the AFL from folding. This is yet another reason he should be in the Hall of Fame.

Nate Clements returns to Buffalo
BuffaloWings replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Couldn't agree more. I still wear my Spikes jersey every now & then...a hard-working, blue-collar type of guy. When I heard about how he helped the woman he was rehabbing with by buying her and her kids a new house, I knew the Bills had a very classy guy. Unfortunately, he hasn't been the same since his injury. -
Nate Clements returns to Buffalo
BuffaloWings replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I loved Winfield, but he was never the ball hawk that Clements was. Winfield is one of the best tacklers I've seen and is a better overall CB than Nate. The only problem with him was that he couldn't make a pick if it hit him in the hands. -
No game on TV for Syracuse this week....
BuffaloWings replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good luck to you guys. We did enough complaining to CBS6 in Albany back in September and they (finally) showed the Bills over Minnesota-Jacksonville, so there is hope. -
They *all* don't have to. Baltimore has a brutal 3-game stretch after next week (Was, Pit, @Dal) and the Bills play both Miami & New England*. Wins over those two can easily put the Bills in excellent shape. I'm not counting on Indianapolis losing (@Cle, Cin, Det, @Jax, Ten) until possibly Week 17, but they may have a playoff spot wrapped up by then or Tennessee might be sitting a bunch of players. Because of their schedule, Indy is out of reach to me. We might as well not worry about them and presume the Bills are fighting for 1 spot.

Ronnie Brown was out for a few games earlier this year, but obviously nothing significant.

Official 2008 AFC Playoff Race Thread
BuffaloWings replied to Typical TBD Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Baltimore's D is good...not just ok, good. That said, their schedule is a killer. They're at Cincy this week, but then play Washington, Pittsburgh, and at Dallas. They need to lose at least 2 more games, which can easily be done....I'm not yet convinced about the Ravens, outside of the defense. Miami's schedule is relatively easy (@STL, @BUF, SF, @KC, @NYJ), but they play 4 of their last 5 on the road. The Bills should just concentrate on beating them once they come to town...er, Toronto. It would be nice if St. Louis or KC shows up in either of those games. New England's* schedule has one tough game (Pittsburgh), plus two consecutive west coast trips (@SEA, @OAK). Perhaps Arizona could come in and pull off a shocker, but that won't happen with the way the officials call games in Foxboro. All in all, chances are still decent for the Bills to sneak in. But they MUST go 4-1 (at worst) down the stretch to have any chance.
