  1. Technically, yes. But the Cowboys didn't win a playoff game....that's all that matters. And no way does Wade Phillips come back. In fact, I'd be shocked if he ever gets another HC gig in the NFL. Great defensive coordinator....terrible head coach.
  2. Wow....look, I'm not exactly thrilled with this team either and you make a decent case, but I'd still have a hard time turning down front-row tickets to an NFL game. I usually have to beg for nosebleed seats, so I'd take these in a heartbeat.
  3. I don't think that "dance" everyone is referring to is as bad as it's made out to be. That did nothing to the team. And don't try selling Trent's concussion.... But it's when Trent fumbled, then threw an INT against Miami where things went downhill. The coaches became WAY too conservative and Trent's confidence waned big time. If we pick a single play that turned the season the wrong way, I agree it had to be the Elam INT. Had the Bills even gotten a FG there, it's 10-6 going into the half and a completely different game. Not to say that the coaches wouldn't be calling for a roll-out pass on 3rd & 1, though.
  4. "They" are reader comments, not ESPN experts' opinions. So, we like ESPN this week because Jauron is ranked dead last? I'm sure we hated ESPN after week 7 when we didn't get the love & respect we deserved.
  5. Not trying to shoot down Raheem Morris or anything (heck, I'd be all for giving him a shot), but Sean Payton was a coordinator. He was the Giants' OC under Fassel, then left for Dallas to work as the OC under Parcells. Granted, his play-calling duties were taken away by Fassel during the Giants' Superbowl year and he was a bit maligned in Dallas for some offensive struggles, but he was definitely a coordinator for those two teams. I think Payton has done pretty well in New Orleans so far. Guys like Sparano, Harbaugh, & Singletary don't have a lot of time as HC yet. While they're doing well so far, I'd rather see more of a sample to say that they "have it" as a HC. Tomlin has done pretty well so far, also, but he inherited Bill Cowher's team in Pittsburgh that has stayed together. We'll see how well he does if players leave via free agency or some of the assistants go elsewhere. That said, I don't believe there are hard requirements that a HC should have been a coordinator at some point in his career.
  6. You mean it's not A-Rod's fault, anymore?
  7. He was also the original coach of the Panthers from 1995-1998. 1 winning season (12-4 in 1996 and lost the NFC Championship game), two 7-9 seasons & his 4-12 season cost him his job. This alone should rule him out of any HC openings. I'm willing to give him a pass on this season, even though he's had 9 games to change things. I'd be more interested in seeing what he can do with a fresh start.
  8. Let's not get too caught up in someone's demeanor - just because we don't see Jauron showing any sense of emotion doesn't mean we want a Lou Piniella-type of coach that will yell & scream for the sake of showing emotion. That said, Fassel is a very stand-up guy who will take responsibility for his actions. It's not like he's a cheerleader, but he will show emotion during the games when it's necessary.
  9. Not to mention, they are - by far - better at running the ball than any team I've ever seen. They did this during their Superbowl run, a few years ago in the playoffs beating the Giants & Bears, and right now. They have a heII of a line and they commit to the running game. They're quickly becoming the new Denver Broncos at running the ball. If anyone beats the Giants in the playoffs this year, it will be Carolina.
  10. You forgot the "none of the above" selection.
  11. For those who are hoping that the extension is contingent upon anything, don't get your hopes up. I really doubt that an extension would kick in for a coach because he makes the playoffs in the same year which he signs said extension. I can see something like this built into the original 3-year contract...that he makes the playoffs by the end of year 3...but I wouldn't do this in the middle of the season. Not to say it didn't happen, but I just think it's unlikely. Nevertheless, the mere fact that Ralph & Russ were mum on anything regarding Jauron's status Sunday tells me something's afoot. As far as Mort goes, I don't trust anything he says anymore. His credibility is lost with me and you can see some tension on the air when he's talking to the other members of the E$PN crew. I caught the end of it, but it looked like he & Steve Young had an interesting exchange last night.
  12. Amazing what happens in 3-4 years, eh? I can remember when he couldn't catch a ball when it was handed to him. That said, I don't know if I'd go so far as to say he's our "best player", but you could say he's approaching team MVP status for 2008. Deep down, Ralph is a business man, so he has to watch his bottom line. Hopefully, the Toronto money will give him the "freedom" to loosen the purse strings, but I wonder sometimes if he's making too much of the small market thing....aside from the CBA mess a few years ago. I don't know....he had a good run in New Orleans, but hasn't done much in St. Louis to convince me just yet. Perhaps he would benefit from starting the season as head coach with his own staff, but I'm 50/50 on him right now.
  13. Bingo. Bringing in McNabb would be another Bledsoe situation and we'd be griping about him and running him out of town during his second year. I honestly think that bringing in a veteran QB like McNabb would set this team back 2-3 more years. Trent is the guy right now. Let's give him a chance, please.
  14. After the games against Cleveland and the Jets, I don't see why Derek Fine doesn't get more playing time. He certainly didn't do anything to render negativity, so that's a . I'm done with Royal. I thought he might be a decent cog in the machine this year, but he needs super glue for God's sake.
  15. Didn't someone post last week that Marty recently gave an interview and said he was done with coaching?
  16. I think we have to be careful about cherry-picking particular individuals for HC and coordinators. To me, it's too much meddling by the front office.....the head coach should bring along guys who will work with him and share the same visions. Just because we've seen Nolan work well as a DC doesn't mean he'd get along with or share the same thoughts and ideas as someone like Josh McDaniel. If McDaniel is hired as a HC, he is the one that should select the DC, OC, and coaches to work with them, not the front office. It's like taking your personally-designed radio to the Chevy dealer and having them build a car around it.
  17. OK...so...many of us complained about how some of the players seemed to prefer playing in the warm, comfortable conditions of the dome, yet you come off with this drivel??? I'm glad these players said what they said. Losman even acknowledged how schitty they played. What do you want them to say???
  18. This all started with the Favre fiasco. Had he actually stayed retired, the Jets would be floundering with Kellen Clemens and/or Pennington and the Fish would be wondering whether or not John Beck or Chad Henne would be the starter from week to week. Amazing how much that trade affected our division.... Thank you. Interesting point. I thought the OL was average to above average for the first few games, but that also may have been due to the competition (SEA, JAX, OAK, STL). Peters has gotten himself back to his usual level for the most part and amazingly enough, the running game got better once Brad Butler returned. Not sure if that's a coincidence or not. You hit the nail on the head. I'll take it to my grave....once Edwards turned the ball over a couple of times at Miami, the coaches started going ultra-conservative and Edwards lost his confidence - probably during the Jets game. Once that happened, the rest of the team started losing confidence in the coaching. The problem resulted in where the coaches were never able to turn the offense back around by taking away the conservative approach. That, my friends, is the downfall of the 2008 Buffalo Bills.
  19. I presume this was from Chris Brown? Link?
  20. I couldn't disagree more... People, the personnel on the field is not the problem. Yes, we could use a better DE and a couple of OL, but if the right coaching was in place, they wouldn't look so dysfunctional. We have players at the skill positions to win.
  21. I honestly think we're drafting good talent, but the coaching isn't putting it all in place.
  22. Sorry, Joe, but he has a point. I'd have to think that Russ Brandon would be thinking the same thing. If he's the savvy business man we all think he is, he'll do something...if not convince Ralph that serious changes are in order....again.
  23. When your defense gives up 18 yards on 3rd & 17 all day long and your offense can't gain more than 3-4 yards at a time, it doesn't matter where you play. Yuck.
  24. Berman was part of a group that tried to convince the Rams several years ago to move to Hartford - I believe when they left LA and ended up moving to St. Louis. I don't know what kind of conflict of interest this would present, but I wonder how much he'd be involved in a group that would try to buy the Bills.
