  1. If Dierdorf can agree it should have been a penalty, you know the fix is in.
  2. Another penalty not called on the Pats*.
  3. At that point, the only question is when does he unretire again?
  4. I'm glad someone mentioned him...I honestly thought the running game returned to form when he came back from injury. Butler gets my vote. marauderswr80 hits the nail on the head with his three (Reed, Johnson, Jackson), but I'd hesitate to say that Reed & Jackson are underrated. It's clear to everyone that both of those guys are a crucial part of the offense.
  5. We thought we had an experienced coach.....tell me how that worked out. I wanted an experienced coach, too. But I've come to realize that experience doesn't always equate to success. If you can find a winning, experienced coach that doesn't have a job and is actively looking for one, then point him out to me...I don't think that person exists.
  6. But also look at the schedule...the AFC East crossed with the NFC West, one of the weakest divisions (if not THE weakest). The AFC East teams went 11-5 against the NFCW teams. You could say that the AFCE is one of the toughest divisions on paper, but I want to see what happens when they go up against the NFC South next year. Did you watch the end of the Cleveland game? Did you see the play that lost us the Jets game? Did you see any of the plays that he should have or shouldn't have challenged? What this young team needs is a young coach...someone that can relate to the players better than an old-school, by-the-book coach.
  7. In the long run, it will likely backfire. So far, it has only cost the Jets a third round pick (he's played over 50% of the offensive snaps). If they make the playoffs, it's a second round pick (70% of the snaps + playoffs). But what this trade did was set the Jets back a few years in their QB development. If Favre plays again next year, that would give them some time to develop Clemens, Ratliff, or Ainge (whoever they want), but we won't know if that guy is ready until they start a few games. If Favre quits now, the Jets go into 2009 with three unproven QBs. Perhaps it was all part of their plan to give the young QBs some time, but they could have been working that out this year and be playoff-ready a year earlier than if Favre was in the mix.
  8. Which is really the wrong thing to do...just because he would have beaten New England. Again, Jauron's entire tenure must be evaluated to determine his future and I don't see enough over the past 3 years to continue that tenure. If this win happens, Ralph *should* be smart enough not to get caught up in any euphoria of beating New England. One would hope that he hasn't forgotten the Monday night embarrassments, the horrid play-calling, and getting owned by the AFC East this year.
  9. Give him a chance with a head coach that lets him call the game.
  10. Agree about the decent guy part, but that's about it. He needed to go because he was handling the team poorly - the Flutie/RJ debacle, his comment about both the Bills & Colts being out of the playoff chase, hiring his buddy (who had never coached football) to run special teams, and then refusing to fire him when it was obvious the guy had no clue. Wade is the classic example of a great coordinator, but not a good head coach. Even Dallas is underachieving right now with all of the talent they have. He's lucky to have Tony Romo...they'd be a 5-win team without him.
  11. Not only is it likely to happen....it will happen. He's already been given the job for next year. Doesn't the search function on this board work? Mort
  12. I don't see Ralph trying to sway Jauron to resign or insist that he fire one of the assistants....that's much like the move he pulled with Wade Phillips and I think Ralph has more respect for DJ than that. What I see more likely is that he'll give Jauron the ultimatum of "playoffs next year or else". I really doubt he'd eat the extension money, if it was really signed.
  13. I'd trust Simms more than Mort, but I still don't take much from this. I'll stress again....the result of the Patriots* game should not determine Jauron's status. His entire 3-year tenure should be evaluated as a whole.
  14. That's actually an argument against Jauron....if you're a better team that your record says, that tells me the coaching hasn't done its job.
  15. Being a meteorologist is about the only other profession where you can fail half the time and still have a job.
  16. Yeah...and over the line, IMO. Marinelli has a right to be pi$$ed at that reporter.
  17. And it really shouldn't come down to 1 game to determine a coach's future. The whole body of work needs to be evaluated. When it gets to the point where a coach's job status is dependent on the outcome of 1 game, you really don't want that guy to be your coach, anyway.
  18. I might just have to do that myself...shortly before I convulse myself into a coma. After all the respect I lost for Favre this year and how much I can't stand the Jets and Patriots*, Miami winning the division might just be what I'd root for.
  19. At least they don't have Joe Theismann anymore. I don't mind the crew, outside of Kornheiser's whining. I think Tirico is one of the best play-by-play guys in the business right now and Jaws is an old-school analyst...he just calls it like he sees it. As for Kornheiser, I don't mind the Howard Cosell-type appeal he brings, but being a whiny columnist is starting to get old. We should have expected him to complain about the cold all night when he wouldn't even do his PTI segment outside in OP in November.
  20. My guess is that he'd be taking it away from Jauron. We know DJ has an awful lot of power over the personnel, so I wouldn't be surprised if this the guy you're referring to. I've never been a fan of a guy who is both coach and GM. Mike Holmgren didn't fare too well doing that in Seattle (they started winning when he focused just on coaching) and Andy Reid hasn't exactly done a great job of it, either. There are exceptions, of course, but more often than not, a team whose coach is also the GM usually underachieves. Maybe this could be Jauron's excuse, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to go into next year with him as just the coach. Couldn't agree more with this statement. Is this not the job of a GM? Consensus is not good in this environment. It just tells me there is no true leader of the football side of the house...and isn't that the business we're in??
  21. True, but you're missing half of it. The game becomes even bigger for the Jets if the Bills pull off the upset. The Jets win the division if they win and the Patriots* lose.
  22. Interesting.... Chambers seemed to play well at LT when Peters was benched for the first game or so. When Peters finally gets in there, he's beaten routinely until he gets into game shape...then he plays up to his standards. If Peters whines about his contract again, someone oughta remind him that if he got himself into camp and into game shape for opening day, he could prove to everyone that he deserved a new contract. 2008 was a lost year for Peters. He only hurt himself with that silly "no contact" holdout. That said....no, we don't actively seek a trade for Peters. But as bizell says, if someone offers up something outrageously good in our favor, then go for it.
  23. Is there a columnist these days that is NOT a fire starter?
  24. Stand corrected, my friend. TV linky It's good for us Albany folk who would have been subjected to the Jets at 1:00. But I think this makes sense, given how the NFL is driven by the TV ratings. This still gives motive to Miami, though. If they know that the Pats* have already won, then they need to beat the Jets to get in. Note: This is not updated on NFL.com's schedule page yet.
  25. He's not, but he helped deliver the personnel...which, all by itself, doesn't guarantee a playoff appearance. The on-field "generals" are responsible for taking that personnel to the playoffs, not Brandon.
