Sloppy Thursday Night Football...Solution?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd think you could do it without an extra week as excluding a few weeks of season, teams have byes anyway so play the Thursday night after the bye. Next week when the Bill's have their bye, instead have the six teams that play Thanksgiving have the bye. May be tough to schedule around that and no teams would want a week two or week 16 bye, but could expand the byes at least one extra week on each end. I don't believe the last two weeks of seaosn they have Thursday night games antway around X-mas and New Years?? Certainly could reduce it down to only a handful of games are being played after three days rest. -
Why "Marroneism" Doesn't Work
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to patfitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Along those same lines, it's funny years ago when teams were in two minute drill plays would be run much faster than today. When you're in the last two minutes they still want to do all this pre-snap stuff even though the clock is running down and they end up being able ot run less plays. Years back ,you'd get to the line and snap it. -
Thank You For Not Coaching
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Billshank Redemption's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey even Jerry Sullivan praised him today and Hackett too. Things must be looking up. -
For years those were the words any player dreaded hearing as he knew he was about to be cut. Got me wondering these days is entire playbook handed to them on a tablet stored on a cloud. When a player gets cut, the coach calls the IT department and tells them turns off Joe's access and now he has a tablet good for nothing but streaming movies. Anyone have any idea's if playbooks have become E-books?

Are we seeing Spiller 2.0 in Andre Ellington?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well I have to say was amazed that he never missed a game prior to this week. Seemed like he missed a bunch, but may have been just minor injuries. On the other hand how many games was he nicked up? Played only part of game, had limited carries, etc. Granted hard to figure for certain last two years how much was due to him being nicked up vs how much did CG sit him when it "wasn't his turn"? Personally I'd be nervous about signing him to big extension which I'm sure he'll be seeking as questionable how much he'll play -

When does Spillers contract run out?? will be very interesting to see what the Bill's do about re-signing him. He's injury prone and has some mileage by then. I'd like to se ethem trade him when he as a year left, likely is one of the few on the team wit hdecent trade value assuming he comes back at some point and plays like last season. -

Well I care as I picked him up two weeks ago on my fantasy team! The rest of my running backs suck including Doug Martin. -
It could be very close to Matt Flynn time
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to KikO M G's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On the Sunday Night broadcast a few weeks ago, Houston was playing and Al Michal's brought up starting Yates and benching Schaub. Chris C stated it likely wasn't a good idea because as a backup, likely he's getting maybe two snaps a week with the 1st team, and Yates is a guy who'd been there all season, so no not unusual that Flynn doesn't yet know the offense. I've heard/read this elsewhere too so no exception here in Buffalo, that's the way all teams seem to operate. Same thing happened last year with the guy they picked up Jackson was his name?? At this point, the only way Lewis comes out is if he gets hurt. Else you go with him a couple more weeks till EJ is back. -
Why Does Everyone Love Pettine So Much?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the argument can be made that before this year there were many players who you wanted to dump, now are looking at a minimum decent, that says something to the coaching. There's less off-season holes to fill than were thought in prior years. -
Probably from sources who actually have inside information, you think maybe?? As opposed to from fans only believing what they wish or want to happen. Who says they won't franchise him? Well most neutral people who aren't fans who make rational business decisions as opposed to fans who want to keep all players regardless of cost. All of them keep stating he's too expensive to franchise next year. Neutral people also don't state that you franchise him just to teach him a lesson either.

I'm wondering if Lewis is coming in? It looked that way on the sideline looking at him?? -
Trade Matt Flynn!
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sort of saying it in jest as teams rarely will give up picks and I'm usually the first to criticize these trade threads. But as they say desperate times call for desperate measures, so you never know what some might offer. -
Trade Matt Flynn!
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought the same thing. Don't know if any teams are desperate enough but if they offered a 2nd or 3rd, would consider it. I'd even make it a package deal Flynn and Tuel for a 1st. -

I'll predict it's just a matter of time before they outlaw tailgating at games. It does bring in alot of money to the beer sponsers but people start drinking at 8:00 in the morning, nine hours later, you can be pretty wasted. Obviously they can't stop what goes on in private lots, though not sure how many other cities even have the private lots within walking distacne like RW does. I know someone mentioned they put fences up on the east side where the valley is, thy could expand that to make it even more difficult to get to stadium. Or require these private lots to have permits and part of permit process is no alcohol. It does seem to be getting worse every year. -
I noticed today he was back to holding for the kicker. Was this the fist game he was the holder? Didn't think he was holding last week?? And trying to recall who the prior holder was, Tuel??

You also just saw an undrafted QB outplay a 1st rounder who also has been in the league for two years or is it three. Granted he's only played one game, but that's only four less than Manual too. But more importantly, a couple of years on the sidelines, practices, film viewing etc, you learn alot. You're also talking about a guy who graduated from Duke in three years, so he's no dummy.

What Are the Missing Pieces?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to thecoz77's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's the way every team in every sport operates. They hire who they know as likely that means they share the same philosophies. Refresh my memory, what was the connection between Brandon/Whaley and Marrone?? -
Wasn't Stevie Johnson a 7th rounder?? Granted many times late round picks don't work out, that's why they are late rounders. But on occasion you do find the diamond in the rough. So they are good for that chance. Would you be better off trading those picks, well the other side of it is in most cases the player you are getting is no better than these late rounders. The one exception is when you find a team that by some luck has a surplus of players at a certain position. Then you can sometimes get a decent player in return. But just as late round picks becoming stars, good/serviceable players being traded are just as rare.

Could be that yes Byrd felt he was ready to go, may have been a bit of wanting to showcase on national TV. Could he have played yes, was he completely ready, questionable?? I doubt the Bill's would have looked all that better with a rusty and out of game shape Byrd, likely would have only played half the snaps. May not have wanted to waste a roster spot wit ha thin secondary on a guy that may only give you half the plays. So you sit him for an extra ten days and let him get into better playing shape. OR May be they didn't feel he'd likely make a big difference in the game due to rustiness, so hold him out while healthy and maybe they seriously plan to trade him over next ten days. You see it often in baseball, a player is rumored to be traded and they hold him out of lineup. Football that usually doesn't happen but there are a couple of unique circumstances here. a) Byrd hasn't played all year anyway and this is a short week of practice so holding him out isn't changing anything from what they've done all year. b) Ten day layoff gives him extra time to get into game shape. c) Trade him while he's healthy, if he had played and got nicked up, would be much tougher to get a deal made. If he's traded within the next 10 days, then likely that was why he was held out. Could even be they have a deal in the works, butthe other team doesn't want to make deal until after this Sundays games.

I'm on vacation and will be staying in a non-football loving house over the weekend. I know I can watch ST on computer for afternnon games, but am wondering if on Sunday night, can I stream the game from NBC.com and watch it live on computer?? Or other options??

One reason why the Bills OLine are injury prone
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dean Cain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I recall years back when I was injured talking with physical therapist about braces. She discouraged it as her feeling was by wearing a brace the joint doesn't get as strong. Not comparing myself to an NFL player, but still the same reasoning. Seems I recall hearing about situation where they make the players wear them for practice only but not in games, thinking is they don't lose the mobility in games but still protect themselves in practice.
