This is likely going to be a rather unpopular comment and likely I'll be ripped 100 ways to Sunday, but if the courts don't find the person guilty whether it be a player, coach, or whomever, why should the NFL have the right to step in. Here's my suggestion for NFL discipline. Any player or coach that does anything wrong or gets in trouble for any reason, can have their contract immediately voided by the team. They are now no longer getting paid. Lets see how many teams would cut the guy, and how quickly the line forms from other teams wanting to sign him. If players jerseys no longer had names and numbers on them so no one knew who anyone even was, rosters aren't released so no one knows who they are watching, would this matter anymore? Or would you still be watching the game and hoping that the team you are rooting for outscores the other team. We are watching football not choir practice. I watch movies and TV where people get killed, that doesn't mean I'm endorsing killing. Should we boycott the actors who play there roles too?

Future Power Rankings (next 3 seasons)
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can just as easily argue the opposite. If you have a top rated QB, you're going to devote a much larger part of your salary cap for qb, thus not having enough money left to sign other players and you will lose players to FA. Will be interesting to see what happens in Seattle. If R Wilson gets even close to what he wants, there won't be enough money left for others and Wilson is not elite enough to carry the team either. -

I'm not very confident that will work though if you've previously had DTV at that same address. Obviously then you can get it. My take on it is DTV doesn't really care, they'll give it to you, and as long as you tell them no I can't receive it, they are happy and will be glad to take your money. But if you've had it prior at the same address or even if a prior owner of same address had it, they likely will say no because if they allow you to have it then they are knowingly breaking the law as opposed to you breaking the law by lying to them about whether you can receive it or not. -

Well that's the good part, come July 16th my contract ends, so I'm free to dump them. So I am in a good position to get a good deal, -

Often guys are out injured almost as long. I'd be more worried if he was a LB or DB, or some position that relied more on speed. OL is more technique and I think you're less likely to forget that. -

I don't know whenever I call I always get told they don't currently have any offers,. spoke with retention dept had the pin and everything, I did get a $10 and a $5 credit off my bill for the next 12 months, plus a one time $20 credit, so the call wasn't a complete waste, but no ST discount. He told me to call back in another month or so and they more likely will have some deals which is usually around the time in prior years I did call in late July. He kind of eluded to the fact that I could probably get at least half off then if not better, but right now nothing more he could do. I will add that I have a pretty stripped down account, have the Xtra package, whole house DVR, 2 TV's total, that's it no movie channels or anything else. That is usually what they kind of tell me I don't spend enough to warrant any great deals, kind of like playing at the $1 Black Jack table and expecting to be comped for my room. Will see what happens next month, hate the time I end up spending on this every year dicking around back and forth, often involved hour long phone calls. At least tonight was a fast rejection. -

I found around the end of July beginning of August to be the best time to call. Twice I had been on year two of contract, still got $100 or more off. I did "chat" last night and was given the special 800 number with a pin, but by the that time was around 10:30 so am goign to call them up later. Will see how it goes. -

I'm completely off of all contracts this July, so for the first time I have some leverage as I can easily totally walk. Will see what I can get. -

Don't think you can drop a player that is still injured. You can have an injury settlement, but don't think you can do that either until the player is cleared for play. And with injury settlements, I'd think the player kind of has the upper hand in agreeing to the settlement terms as otherwise he's still under contract. -
How Much $$ Is To Much $$
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't mind seeing some type of system implemented that supplimented the salary cap where if a player is say is ranked in the top 10% at his position, he can be paid a bonus or something by the owner of his current team that doesn't count against the salary cap. If you sign bad free agents to huge contracts it doesn't help you, but if you do have that rare player that is better than all of the others at his position, allow the team to improve his odds to keep him by being able to give him more money but not kill yourself wit hregards to the cap. You can put limits on the number of players per team you can give extra money to etc. -
Hope the Supplementral draft is on ESPN. Can't wait to watch 32 teams say pass three or four times each. I'll have to mark my calendar to watch.

we will regret not drafting garrett grayson
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Assuming you're correct which you more likely will be wrong just because well over half of the QB hopefuls fail so the odds are against you, but even then OK so we have our franchise QB, but if it will take 2 to 3 years by then the rest of your roster will then need to be rebuilt. I also think in today's NFL it's very hard to have a franchise QB and have a great team around him as the elite QB's eat up too much of your salary cap. Which then leads back to my first comment as will then be hard to rebuild the team if you're already paying for a franchise QB. Will be very interesting to see what happens in Seattle over the next couple of years as to what happens with Wilson and the rest of their roster. -

I can confirm that to be true as I'm in Vegas and have seen things beyond anyone's imagination! I have to believe there must be a huge silicone mine someplace near by. -
Where will you be on draft night?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll be in Las Vegas for my daughters wedding this weekend. Not sure how much I'll get to see mainly due to the time difference. Will be weird to turn on at 4:00 in the afternoon. On the other hand may put a bet down on the Bill's to win the Superbowl Vegas should be hopping this weekend between the draft, the Derby and particually the fight. -
Ralph Wilson Stadium questions
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ascalice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, but you can not also bring them to a Sabres game, not in the same city! -
I'll give it 60/40 he makes it, but I wouldn't be shocked if he were cut, maybe a bit surprised if he were, but barring multiple injuries I'd be more shocked if he is a significant contributor for the season. Conversely come mid season if there are multiple mid-term injuries at some other position and RB's are all healthy, he may get cut then as a result of needing the roster spot. Based on last season, unless he was also playing hurt, just can't see him contributing much.

I'm confused...about Brandon Spikes
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This really has nothing to do specific with the Bill's, if he's looking to sign anywhere, his comments weren't the smartest, but raely do we speak about athletes and smarts to begin with. since he did play last season for the Bill's the bar does get raised here a bit higher. His comments likely will further erode teams interests in him which bodes well for Buffalo as it may tend to lower the offers a bit from Buffalo and others too. -
Grade Whaley's Job Performance
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dorkington's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He drafted three OL last season, to date only one has worked out pretty well. But want to see how all of the players look under different set of coaches. I think alot of their issues was due to the coaching staff more than the players, will find out soon. As to QB, easier said then done to find a great one or even a good one. Overall I gave hi ma B, but if it turns out the line plays wel lthis year with the same basic cast, I'd change grade to an A -
So what would you suggest he do differently? Do a better job of finding a QB?? If it were that easy there wouldn't be about half the teams in the league looking for a QB. He drafted a guy in the 1st round, so far hasn't looked too good, but again there are many more failures than successes. He may never find a good QB and if so, he's be about average for a GM. Was Poliean a genius to figure out he should have drafted Peyton Manning.

If the Bills take a QB in the second round....
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would they sign one guy, trade for another guy, talk about extending the guy you traded for, plus keep saying how good EJ is looking; to then draft someone in Round 2? Yes I do agree taking someone in round 2 would be given a good shot to start, that's why I doubt it happens. Considering it's a weak QB class, I'd be highly shocked to see them draft a QB unless it's round 6 or 7. Unless you take someone in a late round, likely if there's someone out there good enough to draft in round 2, then move to practice squad, someone else will grab him so that's not an option. Drafting a QB early means you're dumping one if not two of the guys currently on the roster and don't see that happening.
