Was reading a Yahoo article about how CJ Spiller is going to be this great steal, and who knows maybe he will be, but one quote thought was very laughable, it stated: The first time he experienced a production dip happened in his first season under Doug Marrone Now that is an absolutely true statement, however he's only played four seasons and Marrone was there for two, so that leaves two seasons, and his rookie year didn't do a whole lot. So basically the following could have also been written and stated exactly the same but maybe gave more information and shead more light on his overall career: He's had one very good season over his four year career (and if you want to add), but regressed the past two seasons under the new coach Doug Marrone As they like to often say, figures don't lie, but liars figure!

It was leaked by Adam Shekler that part of the new contract is that the Bills have agreed to play two games a season in Harrisburg. -
Guess the Bills Free Agent Signings
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Buffalo Destroyers!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haven't seen this guy mentioned in quite awhile, maybe he resigned, but the Bears Center, also could play guard I believe I read supposedly he liked our line coach, sounded like a reasonable priced pickup. If not him, anyone but Iupati as he'll be too expensive, Don't understand why most here seem to think we need two lineman. We need another guard (or center and move Woods). Tackles we have two 2nd round picks and a 7th round pick who played every game last season and looked decent out there for a rookie. He would have been selected much higher without the drug concerns and he wasn't the biggest problem we had out there last year. You can't keep giving up on draft picks before you know how they'll pan out, ideally you'd rather have the rookie become the starter as it's cheap money. People have ripped the Bill's for letting guys like Levetre, Byrd to name a few leave as we didn't want to pay them the money they got elsewhere. Worse than that even is drafting a guy, then a year later bring in a high priced FA to replace him and never knowing how the rookie may have panned out. In three years later his contract expires and he goes elsewhere and then we als ohave nothing to show for the draft picked and spent alot of money at that position instead of paying just the rookie contract. Even worse is we sign a guy and maybe all this work Kujo is doing off season really works out and he beats out the FA signing, then you have starter money sitting on the bench. If we sign a tackle in about ten days, that's fine as now we're in the maybe $1.5 to $2 mil money range. If Kujo beats him out have a $2mil backup isn't too bad -
Jerry Hughes signs 5-year deal with Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I commented in another thread, the Bills can get him back in two seasons once he's likely cut for underperforming the $11 mil contract he got. If he goes someplace where these's a good line, then he may be OK -
I'd rather see him have another good season or at least half a season before extending. Seems last season was the first real strong one worth extending that he had.

Jerry Hughes signs 5-year deal with Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills D is good, but to suggest playing nine vrs eleven seems a bit much! In all seriousness I wouldn't over pay for him either, but likely some team will. If he goes a team with a decent D already, he may be OK, but likely the team to overpay are the ones with little to know current pass rush. Depending on Jerry in that mode., likely won't work out. -
Kind of like the NBA sign and trade. Well you could make a big part of the deal a signing bonus which is paid by the signing team so the team he's traded to wouldn't see any part of that hit. Is it legal, can't see why not, unless some little loophole. Don't recall anything like that ever being done, but why not. Hey seems the NFL has adopted the NBA style of trades announced but not completed for another week, so why not also adopt the sign and trade.

I really don't understand the RT need? Seems most of the season everyone was happy with the play of Henderson, particularly for a rookie and particularly when the overall play of the line was weak. Put Richie and another FA signing guard next to him, and a year of experience I'm not ready to give up on him anytime soon as he could look much better. I know he graded out poor, which makes me questions some of those grades as he seemed to have passed the eye test fine all season. Yuo can't keep chasing draft picks, by that I mean replace last years pick with another one until you're certain the first one isn't going to work out, and after one season no way to tell for certain, if anything he looked pretty strong. Can't afford five all-pros on the line just as the same on the D-line, if Hughes leaves for big $$. If Henderson is our biggest problem on the O-line we're in real good shape!

It should have been Adrian Peterson
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has three years left on the deal, so UFA is a long way soff, we're talking in three years. He'd be crazy to refuse an extention to play out a three year deal to become a UFA as could easily get hurt or would by then be over the hill and get less. After this year his cap hit goes down, under $8 mil So explain how a three year contract with declining cap amounts exactly gives the player leverage? Other htna the cap number being high, just don't see it. -

Ummm... yeah that was the idea, all my comments were meant to be negatives. I'm agreeing with you, he was nothing special. It was on about page two or three of the this thread, someone posted that! DPOY candidate this season The legend is amazing. See my post above as to the real reason behind this trade!! -

That he tore his ACL twice and came back to play again at some level, oh yeah, he became DPOY, he'll become a superstar, he's up and coming (even though his played actually tailed off in the ONE season he played). Well at least that's what the first 37 pages were saying about him -
[closed]My thoughts on the trade
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to NextYearGuys's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really based on what?? Some of the quotes I've read are amazing. Truly the legend of Kiko grows tonight 10X. I've read here tonight, he's a superstar, up and coming, DPOY candidate this coming season. What we know Kiko is is a guy who came in as a rookie and had a great Sept and October, remainder of year played very well for a rookie, but in reality his play deteriorated as the year went on. Not blaming him for it, but if you're calling him a superstar and up and coming, then lets be honest on what actually occurred, his play at best leveled off, most likely dropped off to some level. 2nd season out all year with an ACL, in fact second ACL on the same knee to be exact. Meanwhile we're picking up an elite RB, granted maybe in two years he'll be done, who knows, but for all we know Kiko may already be done, but somehow this is a terrible deal for the Bill's Nothing against the guy, but talk about people out of control. The legend only grows in his wake. This is just amazing to hear peoples reaction! -
Shady+Bryce+ Booby = Bye Freddy
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
FJ is the heart and sole of the fans. Rex has no connection to him, his play tailed off quite a bit this past year., maybe he was just very nicked up, who knows. The one thing FJ does bring is good blocking, but the only ones who feel he's deserved to stick with the team are the fans. He may beat out Brown, if he does, then he'll be back if not then likely he's done. But this blind loyalty to him is just plain stupid. I like the guy, but he may be done! -
No franchise tag for Hughes.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They already are paying top $$ for a DE, and next season top $$ for a DT too. You only want to put so much money into any one position, seems I recall a couple games there when they were subbing in Wynn, Charles, & Byrant, those guys were getting sacks too, so I think having the Williams brothers and Dareus up front is more the reason Hughes is getting ten sacks than he's a top level DE. If he does leave, the Bills can probably get him back in two, maybe three seasons tops as who ever signs him will be way over paying and he'll be one of these guys you'll be reading about on Feb 28th or so, 2017 on the big name vets who were just cut list. -
Regardless whether he walks or not, good teams don't franchise a player for about twice what he's probably worth. Five teams franchised a player, seems more like good teams know it's not a smart move to do that. Of the team's that did franchise a player, clearly that player was the best player on their respective team at that particular position. Hughes at best is the third best lineman on the Bill's. If Hughes does leave, unless he goes to another team with a real strong defense, I'll be shocked if he'll come close to the success he had in Buffalo.
-
He also could be doing like a number of players do, assuming he does want to stay in Buffalo, don't sign anything now, see what kind of offers he can get, then take his best offer back to Buffalo for them to match, or at least come close, then he signs here. Likely some team will offer him stupid money though and he will sign elsewhere, particularly some team that is weak at pass rush. I also think he's the by product of those around him, there's a good chance he signs elsewhere in two years whomever signs him finds that out and cuts him, so in the long run he could make more money by signing for less in Buffalo as has a better chance of playing out the contract.

Rex Whaley emerging.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm still kind of skeptical of this entire Polian thing?? There was never any type of response out of Buffalo on it which maybe isn't surprising as I think TP is to classy for that. I think all Polian was asked to do was be an extra set of eyes and ears for Whaley, not to replace or demote him. All of a sudden he's talking about how he's bringing in AJ Smith, etc. Maybe at that point TP told him that wasn't the job I'm asking you to so, so then Polian backed out and came up with this "too heavy a lift" excuse. Whole thing just doesn't add up IMO
