Can you explain exactly how he is his crony from Syracuse?? Maybe when RB was in high school as a kid he followed Syracuse and watched Marrone play, but that's about the closest their paths crossed, other than yes RB was born in the same city that Marrone played college at and eventually coached in the same city over 25 years after Brandon left as a kid. But hey when you're on a vendetta, don't let facts get in the way of making a point.

Consultant and the HC and GM
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could be wrong on this but I don't recall TP stating he absolutely will hire a consultant. Thought he stated he MAY do that and seems everyone in the media and this site took it as gospel. That being said I do tend to agree with the OP in that would be difficult to make any types of changes this off-season as would take some time to decide what is and isn't working. Unless the person is actually brought in to flat out clean house, and not to determine what is or isn't working. -
Orton may not be great, but ...
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree, but that's all about 20 other teams have too. Would I like to find the franchise that everyone wants, sure, but so would many other teams and in half of the case when they do find one it's more dumb luck (see Tom Brady) It doesn't mean they shouldn't try and find one, but we could be worse off. And I don't blame the Bill's FO for not getting one as I realize there are very few to come by. And seems like every year the picking are getting slimmer. I do think the NFL needs to start aggressively working to develop a Stepford QB Also would be interested to see how Orton would look with an improved offensive line and actually an off-season of training camp, OTA's etc under his belt. -
I think he may eoither outright fire him, or give him too many conditions to accept to keeping his job like fire Hackert, fire the OL coach, etc. Marrone doesn't react quick enough so he gets fired. In Marrone's defense if he did agree to get a new OC, he may have trouble finding someone unless Marrone himself gets extended else he's a lamb duck coach looking to hire a new OC

Draft a QB every year? Who would we have had?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to texasabres's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great idea, there's about 20 other teams that love to hire that guy. Realisticly the Bills and every team has that guy, they know what the great QB looks like, the problem is there;s hardly anyone out there that has the skills. -
Updated: The AFC Playoff Picture
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt NE has the converence rapped up. To expect Denver to lose the next two weeks is wishful thinking, not a "very possible senerio" as you call it. I'd even state there's a much higher probability that we lose to Green Bay, than Denver loses the next two, or eve nthat we lose to Oakland than Denver losing two straight. That being said, there's also a good chance there are other loses by other teams unexpectedly. -
I think this off season three things could happen: 1) TP (and KP) decides to completely clean house up to and including RB, DW, and all the coaches. I kind of doubt this will happen as from what I've read, TP appreciated RB's help during the purchase process so likely he stays. I do believe RB likes DW so puts a good word in for him and DW also keeps his job. I hope this happens as I believe the Bill's would be hard pressed to find a better GM He's made more good moves than bad, the one bad one people will bring up is QB, while I don't disagree this hasn't worked out very well, 20 other teams have the same problem. It takes more luck than anything to find the answer at QB 2) Whaley instructs DM to fire Hackett and DM refuses. Then DM also gets shown the door. In defense of DM, if I were him I'd argue that it will be difficult to bring in a new OC unless DM's contract is extended as who wants to work for a lame duck coach. If I recall correctly that was the same argument Wade Phillips made to RW at the time, but it didn't work that time either. It's also possible that Whaley puts many conditions on DM hoping he'll not accept them giving him an excuse to fire him. Wade had a a much longer and successful resume than DM does, so for Wade, he could play that card and not worry about getting rehired. For Marrone if he refuses to meet conditions and gets fired, he'll likely struggle to get another shot even in college, so not so sure Doug would be dumb enough to go down that route. (I'm certain these words will get many responses) 3) All the off season stories about friction between DM and the front office are true as this thread alludes too and DM is fired for that. So will see what happens in a month, will be very surprised if at least Hackett isn't gone by New Years.

Ok Can We Trade Every Pick We Have Left?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to coltrane34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you get a 1st rounder, lets dream big the #1 over all .You think there's a QB out there that has an 89% chance of being great?? Winston, the guy from Oregon? The rate of failures is much higher than success. Not disagreeing that we need better QB play, but thinking a 1st rounder will solve the problem is way off base -
The Demise of the Running Quarterback?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While this is true in the most literal sense, it is so misleading that I don't think it's going too far to call bull ****. To say 2/3 had their franchise QB is just as misleading. There are maybe 10 true franchise QB's in the league, for round numbers we'll say 1/3, the next 1/3 that you claim have franchise QB's are the following group; Three seasons ago when time to draft RW had the following for their starting QB Jets Mark Sanchez Houston Matt Schaub Tampa Josh Freeman I could go with more, my point is these were all teams who thought they had their guy, clearly if they had correctly valued RW they would have drafted him, but they didn't think much of RW and figured their current guy was just as good if not better. Very quickly they realized their error. Even the 1/3 with true franchise QB's likely would have drafted him as a backup maybe in the second round if they did know how good RW turned out. So yes the Bill's missed out as did practically every other team in the league if his true abilities were known. Just don't make it that the Bill's were one of only a handful of teams that screwed up her, the list is long. Teams abilities to value players star skills is more hit or miss and seems mostly miss. -
QB Index: Ranking the starters 1-32
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kind of interesting that guys like Dauton, Alex Smith and Cutler are just ahead of Orton. Not much difference there. As far as franchise QBs' a discussion form the other day, I'd cut the list off after #9, though would consider moving Flacco or Eli up into that group too. -
NFL Maps: 2014 Week 14
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So what player on either San Fran or Oakland hails from western PA as I see this little sliver of area is getting that game while most of the remainder of the country gets Seattle @ Philly?? -
Yup another sign of a terrible front office! Actually it's probably all Hacketts fault! PS can some one tell me where to find the sarcasm button??
-
So you have 17 I said 12, not too far off. I'd also argue that without an exceptional team around him, I doubt that Wilson, Kaepernick, Newton, Dalton, and maybe even Flacco could win a SB on their own talents. I'd then lump your elite and borderline elite, plus Big Ben, Romo, Stafford, Rivers, Ryan, and Eli minus the last two seasons into my "franchise" group. Even though some like a Romo or Rivers, haven't won a SB, I do feel they are capable of it with even decent talent Though Romo will find a way to self destruct every year.

Out of 32 teams in the NFL, there are around 20 who lack franchise QB's. So not finding one in a generation is about average for the league. That's the basic problem in the league, there are 32 teams and 10 great QB's. So teams get "desperate" and hope someone like an EJ or JP or Trent become that guy. If not move on.

The same thing was stated another time, around 1986. Kelly's 1st or 2nd year, defense was good, but if only the offense would play decent.

Bills awarded TE MarQueis Gray from Vikings
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The first catch I sdaid, "Who is this guy" so Googled him. Didn't even find out very much there other than the date the Bills picked him up! -
Official Pre-Game Thread: Week 13, Browns at Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Over the years there's been many players who've been inactive pretty much their entire rookie year, 2nd year, they got stronger and things slowed down and they became decent players. Will he be goign to the pro-bowl, probably not, but that's OK too as long as he can become a decent starter. Same with Richardson, give them another year. -
Tony Moeaki: He's no Lee Smith!

Hey don't let any actual facts get in the way of a chance to rip Bills management. You got an agenda, go for I'm aure you'll get 20 others with the same agenda to totally agree with you. -
Why I think Marrone should be fired...
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We play Green Bay before Oakland. I think Hughes may sign elsewhere regardless as I just don't know if we can afford him. You can only put so much money into one area of the team and you'll be needing to pay Dareus big $$ here too. The only way I see us signing him if if we don't bother trying to re-sign Spikes. Personally I think we need the run stopper more, last year had the same line minus Spikes, look how they played. Though I will say this Schwartz is known for being good at stoping the run, so he may be able to mold one of the other LB's into a great run stopper. If he can do that, then I'd be OK with letting Spikes go and using the money on Hughes, but just don't think we can afford both and fill other needs too. Regardless of the amount of money Terry is willing to spend, still have ot deal with a salary cap too. -
Who wants to apologize to Danny Crossman?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Did you ever think that maybe his "career" of poor coaching was due to bad players. From what I recall reading he did have a couple good years, they weren't all bad . Maybe the moral of the whole thing is doesn't matter who the coach is, you need the players first. -
So I was listening to the Dan Lebetard show this afternoon, he had on John Clayton who was taking calls. Someone asked where Clayton thought Ray Rice would play next year and he stated Buffalo as Terry P had a connection with him though the sports agency he was involved with.. Obviously pure speculation, but that was his response.
