Yes but you're overlooking the part that if he turned out to be good, it would have cost the Bills much more that it did. Yes the could have tagged him, for one year or even two, but then likely would have been paying a Brock O type contract and in two seasons that would have been maybe even 25% higher. If he had played good he would have been what the 20 highest paid QB which sounds like a good deal. The tough part is mostly everyone here wants to bring him back, but for less money and may be difficult for that to happen unless other teams show no interest. At the time the Bills agreed to the contract, it was viewed as a team friendly deal, that's part of negotiations, both sides have to give and take. The one part of this deal that kind of puts the Bills in a tough spot is if he played somewhere in the middle, good enough to want to bring back as no better options, but not great either which is what happened. But either side can rarely get everything you want in a contract.

Lets say EJ throws for 5 TDs, 400 yards

There is a certain irony in this thread. If you recall that was what Rob Johnson did in a meaningless season finale, then he got the start the following week over Flutie in the playoff game. Not that he played bad in that game either as he walked off the field with one shoe on and the Bills leading. -
New Chenelly Tweet - Coughlin an option

Yeah I think he wants to coach and knows if he doesn't get a gig this year, he likely never will and also doesn't want to walk into a total rebuild situation so for that and some of the reasons you also mention he's not much in a position to demand total control. I also do agree with the "mission" comments you made. Actually heard a thing the other day comparing when Rex came to Bills last year as being dumped by GF and immediately going out and getting a new GF when you really should take time to decompress first, that could be a little bit like what's going on with TC. He wants to get a younger better looking GF, but considering the pickings are more limited here, he'll take anyone who'll have him. Kind of laughed a little at the John Clayton article: "Every team in need of a head coach will be hoping for some of the luck that teams like the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders had" Yeah Gase has looked good so far, but what the Raiders really were getting at the time was a retread coach with a losing record after around 8 years in Jax. Could be he's another Bill B clone and learned from his mistakes or more likely he stumbled into a good QB situation in Carr so now he's a great coach. Wait to he puts the axe through someones foot again. -
You're right Groy;s another one, Doubt Woods would have a trade value, but could save some money there.

UNC QB Mitch Trubisky

Was looking at the scores of all the completed bowl games this year. Can't get over the fact that there's actually a "Motel 6" bowl game out there! If anything says there's too many bowl games being played, the fact that there's a Motel 6 bowl game says it all!! -
Would Les Miles make a good NFL coach?

Another LaCanfora rumour RE: Tyrod

They still had a shot at the playoffs/ You're starting to sound like people speak in Raleigh! All you were truly missing was the "all", as in " ya all" (well more like Roberson county) (from the guy who now lives in Wilmington) -
Glenn wants to get paid again, so he would care! Better option may be to trade one of them. Could you get a #1 for him? Likely easily could for Glenn, not so sure based on the limited time teams have seen Kujo, but maybe a 2nd? How much would you eat by treading Glenn, is it worth it?

Or that the Bills haven't committed strongly either way. He knows his biggest fan was Rex who's gone, the fact that he's being sat this week tells him the Bills aren't committed to him for certain. Add to that every media troll around has pretty much stated that he sucks, isn't worth the money, nor is he the answer and should be cut. So why should he even the slightest bit go out of his way and talk to them. About the only person in the media I've seen who hasn't totally given up on him is Graham, though not certain if that position by him has been consistent or has he gone back and forth on it in different articles and days?

Option at Defensive Coordinator: a familiar face!

So if he's a that good, unless his contract is up this year, why would Denver let him go to another team in a lateral move? -
The actual Taylor Clause

A few thoughts about this week
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do agree not likely, but someone needs to say enough about many things getting out of hand. Even if the PFWA boycotted the Bills, with as many outlets these days trying to make a name for themselves, there'd still be plenty of news about them. And I do think the media needs the league more than the other way around in these days of the internet. Well it just takes one to start a trend. You watch now that Trump is president things like this will change! -
A few thoughts about this week

With regards to #2, Media Did Sully really call the Pegulas bozo's in the article or was that just someone here's comments? If so, if I were the Pegulas, I'd consider taking a page out of the Richard Sherman playbook and revoke their credentials for the entire BN. In today's internet world, the BN needs the Bills more than the Bills need the news With regards to #10 Brandon As to qualifications, his background is in marketing, specifically sports marketing I thought?? having said that in the 10 plus years he's been in Buffalo, he certainly knows more about running a football team than anyone around here does on this board and media, and more importantly, likely knows much more than the Pegulas do at this point, so if they want to have him be their representative for daily interactions, then so be it. You call it "meddling and giving unqualified advice" well if the Pegulas, have given him that authority, then he is speaking for them, as they feel he is qualified or more qualified than themselves. If instead he gave his "meddling and giving unqualified advice" directly to the Pegulas and then they came out and did as he suggested tothem, everyone would be more OK as it's coming from the owner, well if he's representing the owner, then it is coming from them. -

While I don't dis-agree with this happening. I really don't think TT has much trade value as everyone knows, if the Bills are even talking to others, then they are ready to move on, so can wait them out until he's cut. However is still some value in a trade as that team now has TT locked up. Or could be the Bills plan to keep TT for one more season as don't think Cardale is quite ready but announce to other teams we would trade him for a #1. If some team is willing to pay that much they move on, else they bring him back at least for one more season. Even if EJ were to pull a Rb Johnson season farewell out, he's a FA, considering everything he's gone through in past 4 seasons, can't imagine him coming back. There's really not many better experienced options out there, so will be surprised if TT isn't brought back along with Cardale and maybe draft someone else for future development if Jones doesn't work out. Pettine thing could happening as I'd assume they have history together from the Jets. He was away for a year, so gave him time to recoup and want to get back into game before he becomes a forgotten man. -

Or maybe in the year he was here, while the defense played great, he was an organizational mess?? Maybe why they didn't hire as HC last time. They still sensed some of the same issues as were in Detroit, great coordinator, bad HC?? -
HC Smith, OC LaFleur, DC Seto
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DisplacedBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All these threads about bringing in this guy as coordinator for this HC are really pretty much all pointless. Unless you know of some connection between Lynn and Shanahan or Bradley, not likely to happen. Coaches will bring in guys they are familiar with or coach their own philosophy. It was like all those threads last year complaining that Rex didn't keep Schwartz, they have different beliefs so it wasn't going to happen. -
the Jim Leonhard of Rex's Bills defenses
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was listening this morning on the radio and they were talking how Rex would be a great collage coach as players and parents would love him which I'd tend to agree with. He'd be great with recruiting, etc. But if NFL players had trouble understanding his defense with as many hours they put in, how would college players ever figure it out. He'd really likely have to dumb it down. Admittedly if they could figure it out, no offense could probably stop them either. -
Interesting NFL Coaching Stats
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrone didn't turn down he walked away. Considering the situation, someone maybe his wife had convinced he was this hot name and would easily get a new job, so he took $4 mil, walked away, figured he'd get a better job, paying even more once the bidding started. Problem was he didn't realize how much quitting on a team tarnished his name. He'd have been much better off if the Pegulas had come in and said we're cleaning house and bringing in our own people, so you're fired. Then being out of his control, likely he'd have been hired right away. Mularkey too recall there was something going on, think it was Levy being hired as GM, he was afraid he's be let go in a year as not one of Levy's guys. Little did he realize at the time Levy wasn't going to fire anyone unless everyone agreed he needed to be fired as he called himself the consensus builder. And that was 10 years prior to Pegula's being here so not in any way related to them. -
Exactly every year people make a big deal out of this and by this time next year everything will be different. Coaches are also smart and with big egos, and have heard all the rubbish coming out of Rex so not likely any of them are surprised he was fired and they all figure they'd never have these same issues themselves. Likely everything you list as reasons are identical with every other team too, but you're not following them so don't hear about it.
