  1. So in other words Ralph was a genius! He deliberately didn't sign Cousineau so he could use that pick in the future to sign Kelly!!
  2. OK somehow I was thinking Cousineau was in 83. Or was it we got the extra 1st round pick in 83 because we traded his rights away?? Is that why I was thinking 83? Fixed your post LOL
  3. Since you stated changing the draft format I'll throw out another thought. Should the NFL copy the NBA and have the draft prior to free agency? Realistically would be hard to do schedule wise, but would it be better? For the past year I've often wondered, would the Bills have redone Addison's contract if they had known they were going to draft two DE with their first two picks.
  4. Thought that was after Knox was gone??
  5. Good chance you're right just because more that half of the coordinators who become head coaches do fail, but you never know when and where the exceptions come from. When the Bills hired McD many thought the same here. While some here who hate the guy will likely respond that he's not a good HC, his record doesn't agree with that. He and Beane have turned the team around. There's been many good teams and coaches over the years who didn't win it all. Having said all that do think the fact that Daboll took this long in his career to get where he is doesn't bode well for him. One of the few coaches who only succeeded well into his career was Marv Levy, but he had a very stacked team.
  6. What you say may be all true, but my main point that I was responding too was the poster who stated he was: "waiting for McD to fire Frazier" Frazier and McD are kind of a package deal so even if that happened, likely he'd replace him with someone else running the same defense. And if he hasn't fired him two weeks after the last game, doubt it's happening now either. I'd like to understand what a "weak and scared defense scheme" is? Yes agree they gave up yards and allowed KC to sustain drives. But to me it comes back to not being able to sack Mahommes and other QB's throughout the year. They get to them some, but not enough. Yes against lower level QB's it works because our secondary particularly Hyde and Poyer confuse the offense enough to not be able to convert enough 3rd downs. Certainly helped the Bengals too that Mahommes (and Reid) made some real bone headed plays too on top of everything.
  7. It's been two weeks since the last game. If he hasn't been fired by now, highly doubt it's going to happen. Really don't think the problem on defense is coaching (excluding the final 13 seconds) but the problem is they don't have that 10 to 12 sack guy on the defensive line. Frazier is coaching the scheme McD wants so even he was fired, likely McD would want someone else to coach the same style. Barring a total collapse where they only win 4 or 5 games, good chance McD makes playoffs again and not getting fired
  8. So you think if we give a team our 3rd round pick they will take Edmunds?? But don't give them our second?? LOL (Don't worry I understand what you really meant.) But do find it rather funny that most people here think he's terrible, but yet some team is going to trade for him. I get it there's always players that don't work out very well or as expected but yet some team will trade for him, usually at about 50 cents on the dollar. But how many players get traded who aren't nearly as good as expected but yet have the 5th year option picked up on them so it will cost the new team alot of money to take him. I tried to Google players traded after having 5th year option picked up, but didn't find anything, but maybe there have been some. From that standpoint my comment said jokingly about having to give up picks to get rid of him isn't so far off. Recall Cleveland was it took on some large contract a few years back, but also received draft picked for taking on the contract. You're at least more realistic than many here who think we could get a 1st rounder for him. If the Bills are able to trade him and get a decent return on him tells me the entire NFL values him much more than many of the posters here. And then posters will be ripping the Bills for giving away a good player.
  9. This is a little different though in that they are showing something live. How much Amazon programming or Netflix, Hulu, etc, is shown live. You're normally watching something filmed a couple weeks/months ago. ESPN doesn't but that's more a TV station than a streaming service.
  10. Read the article, it talked about coaches and Schoen leaving for Giants and then also stated: "one staff member soon following". Any idea who that might be?? Agree would be good to resign McKenzie, but don't think he wants to come back. Likely the only was would be no one else wants to pay him much, but even then not sure he'd take more here. Seems he has a gripe with McD, from what is known is legit, but who knows what happened behind the scenes?
  11. What about the guy from the Jets, Berrios? Not likely put him in the backfield, but understand he plays the slot and can return kicks. Patterson may be better choice, but would Berrios be another option?
  12. Agree, lived in Rochester my favorite was Carbones for both pizza and wings. Always thought that was a local Rochester place, then someone here told me they started in Buffalo. Was devastated upon learning that! If I remember right Pontillos used sausage coins rather than chunks. That alone was reason to boycott.
  13. At this point in his career, could be more of a retirement home. Really doubt he'd be building a house in a location where he has no idea yet if that's where he ends up. He could easily wait till he's traded, then start to build True, but Rodgers has to agree to it and as many have pointed out, does he really want to go the QB rich AFC?
  14. If you say so, wasn't very clear if that was what he was asking IMO 👍
  15. Expiring contracts don't count against the cap as basially those players are all due zero in 2022. The only way the team saves money against next years cap is to either cut a player under contract assuming the dead cap hit isn't larger than the actual cap hit. This past season Star fit into that situation, would have basically cost as much to cut him as keep him. The other way to save money is to re-do, extend, reduce existing contracts with the players approval. But to answer your question, ignore expiring contracts WRT the 2022 cap.
  16. OK wondered about that if player had option to sign it or not. So also possible he told the Bills he wasn't going to sign one, or just not a priority with him as he's not going anywhere. Did read someplace teams can pay more that league required amounts to PS players, so if wanted Bills could pay him more for "coaching help"
  17. Was listening the other day to NFL radio, ex coach was talking about the end of Bills, Cowboys, and KC game. He commented that in today's NFL with such limited practice time, it's hard to practice these uncommon situations. Like what to do with only 13 seconds to need to hold out of field goal range so went into more deep prevent to stop TD. Likely Hill scoring on last possession from 63 yards was it didn't help. Or not realizing you can't call a running play with 14 seconds left in Dallas game Analytics should take care of it, but in heat of moment maybe not. He also said one time in a game he was behind with about same time left, defense put 13 players on field to stop play took 5 yard penalty, but stopped completion. Not sure if that would fall under the Unsportsmanlike Conduct rules and add on 15 more??
  18. Isn't the entire idea of a "Futures Contract" to lock the player up as soon as the season ends? Could be the Bills figure no other team is likely to sign him, or he's been a loyal well liked player, maybe he asked the Bills not to sign him so he can see if there's interest elsewhere. If not maybe he does come back to Bills until he does go into coaching at some some point. Considering there is now officially an open Assistant QB coach position available, maybe the Bills just keep the slot open until he's ready to hang up the cleats. In the mean time he fills that position and is available to play when/if needed.
  19. The other thing they are doing is filling out their roll-a-dex with information and names they could contact in the future if something were to suddenly or not so suddenly change for any coaching position. Basically taking advantage of the opportunity.
  20. OK Was it another guy around that same time frame they gave a second contract to?
  21. I do think there was somewhat of a disconnect between Daboll and McD. Often when we'd lose McD implied there wasn't enough running plays called and most posters seemed to be in agreement and the fire Daboll threads would start. Then other weeks, like the KC game, it seemed there were too many running plays called. I know McD has often stated that we don't need to run more, but just need the threat to run. Makes me wonder if it was somewhat of a case of the thought going through Daboll's mind. "Need to call some running plays here to get the boss off my back" In that respect having someone new may be better if they are more aligned.
  22. I just posted this in another similar thread, but same answer IMO applies here too: The problem isn't teams paying superstar QB's huge salaries, it's paying tier II QB's top $$, but he's the best the team has had in awhile and they hope he can become tier I so they pay him. Tannerhill in Miami, Carr, Flacco, etc. The Bills did that to some level with Fitz and Edwards. Then not enough money left to put a great team around him and those guys need greatness around them to win. Take a Brady, Rodgers, Manning, they can make middle of the road guys i.e. WR, TE, RB look great and get the team to the SB. Often then their contract runs out, they want to be paid top $$ based on the numbers they put up, but the team realizes it's really Rodgers that made him great, so they decline he goes elsewhere and puts up middle of the pack numbers and everyone is shocked. Allen appears to be good enough to make the middle guys look great so not as concerned here. I do think you want one top tier guy like Diggs, but was reading a post the other day how we should sign Adams or Godwin to make the offense unstoppable. We don't need that, nor can afford that. Allen can win with Diggs, Davis, a decent rookie WR, Knox, and one middle tier backup for injury like a McKenzie. Add a RB who's a very good at catching passes out of the backfield. So don't think it's a true problem when you have the real superstar QB, but too often teams have phony Tier I paid QB's
  23. Agree for the most part. To often team get in trouble by paying close to top $$ to the QB for a guys that's really not a top QB, but he's the best the team has had in awhile so they pay him. Tannerhill in Miami, Carr, Flacco, etc. Then not enough money left to put a great team around him and those guys need greatness to win. Take a Brady, Rodgers, Manning, they can make middle of the road guys WR, TE, RB look great. Often then their contract runs out, they want to be paid top $$, but the team realizes it's really Rodgers that made him great, so they decline he goes elsewhere and puts up middle of the pack numbers and everyone is shocked. Allen appears to be good enough to make the middle guys look great. I do think you want one top tier guy like Diggs, but was reading a post the other day how we should sign Adams or Godwin to make the offense unstoppable. We don't need that, nor can afford that. Allen can win with Diggs, Davis, a decent rookie maybe slot WR, Knox, and one middle tier backup for injury like a McKenzie.
  24. Or something like a vet min, but $1/2 million bonus if the Bills go to the SB and a million if they win it.
  25. I agree with you to a point. Do think there was often a disconnect between the two. Whenever we'd lose a game, it seemed McD was annoyed that we didn't run enough. Seemed most posters here tended to agree and were also ripping Daboll for not running enough. But games like last week would complain we ran too much. So do think McD had a somewhat different take on how much we should run the ball and may have created friction between the two. But not sure personally who I'd tend to agree with either. Likely would depend on whether we won or lost the game! LOL
