  1. It's not an "easy cut" if he makes the team and we're relying on him and he does something like, I don't know, brings loaded guns to the airport or misses curfew with the team and we have to move on mid season from someone we were counting on. The guy did criminal acts five years apart. Then showed continued immaturity with things like staying out past curfew the night before a game and even pranking a child, literally playing the Grinch on Christmas Day. These aren't little things or a young guy making a single mistake. It's a character concern ledger dripping red and showing a sustained pattern over years. The Raiders, who already lost a CB in FA and have less than we do at the position got rid of him while he was still on his cheap Rookie deal. I don't think this is the type of guy the Bills would want to take on even if he were a Superstar. And he's far from that.
  2. For reals. If it were reported the Chiefs were looking at bringing JaMarcus Russell out of retirement there'd be posters on here saying "he's a #1 overall pick talent, we can't let them get him!"
  3. Convicted of Burglary in 2018, arrested for bringing two loaded guns to the Airport in 2023 - those aren't disruptions so much as a criminal risk. That's not even taking into account being immature enough to miss curfew on the road (which must have been pretty flagrant bc it's not something you hear of happening) and be cut for it. Or presenting a child fan of the opposing team a football and pulling it back on them on Christmas Day. There's been no reports of anything happening in Vegas, but them cutting him as well is an eyebrow raiser - as their CB situation isn't very good either and they made the decision to cut ties with him too.
  4. Dane is in the Drafted list to show that of the 8 CB's that were Drafted, they came away with 3 that were good starters. The idea that so many posters have that "McDermott can turn water into wine", as you put it, with any CB Drafted anywhere drives me up a wall. It's simply not true. And even examples like Dane Jackson, Levi Wallace, Cam Lewis, and Ja'Marcus Ingram isn't so much turning water into wine as turning water into soda. Yes, the return on investment of a 7th Rounder and UDFA into a serviceable NFL depth players is good. But you don't want any of those players starting. I totally agree that they shouldn't force a pick at 30 if the value isn't there. But I really feel they need to walk away with a CB in the first Two Rounds somewhere. If the value isn't there at 30, go elsewhere. But if they feel someone they like won't be there at 56, they should move up a bit from there.
  5. I saw that. Seemed like an excuse after getting bad press bc that's easily remedied. You just point at the man and say it's for the kid - back off. Not to mention him laughing afterwords.
  6. Cancelled their workout with Travis Hunter too. They're purposely telling the league "we're taking Cam Ward". I think it's a strategic move to get better offers from teams that may have fallen in love with him and need a QB. That's not to say they'll definitely trade the pick. They'll very likely just stand pat and take him. But it's obvious they want teams to know they're taking him.
  7. He's on his way to his third team since being Drafted in 2022. And there's good reason for that, beyond his play last season: - On June 8, 2018, Jones was arrested at a Panda Express in Santa Paula, California, for commercial burglary. He pled guilty to commercial burglary, a second-degree misdemeanor, and served 45 days of house arrest. - Jones was arrested on June 16, 2023, at Boston's Logan Airport when two loaded guns were found in his carry-on baggage by Transportation Security Administration agents. - The night before the Patriots Week 9 game vs the Washington Commanders, Jones missed curfew at the team hotel and was benched and played a reduced role. He also played a career-low 10 snaps vs the Indianapolis Colts the next week He was waived the next day on November 13, 2023. And obviously not on the same level as the first 3, but shows the kind of genius you're dealing with in Jones: - Then the next week on Christmas Day, in a Week 16 victory against Kansas City Chiefs, he intercepted a Patrick Mahomes pass, returning it for his second touchdown in two weeks. Following the touchdown, in celebration, Jones offered the intercepted ball to a young Chiefs fan. Jones then snatched the ball back after the child reached out to grab it. You think this is someone Beane and McDermott would be interested in giving opportunity 3 and bringing in their locker room? I don't think they'd want him if he were a Superstar. And Jack Jones is FAR from that.
  8. Perhaps you weren't who I should be replying to. The discussion of his development is used to say you don't need to Draft a CB until Day 3. Like he can turn any CB into a Starter. When the truth is that Dane Jackson is not a good starter. Levi Wallace was not a good starter. They were placeholders that we always tried to Draft replacements for and walked away from the second someone offered more than a couple million. And each of them would go on to get cut in quick succession by the teams that did. For every very good CB Drafted and developed in Tre White, Christian Benford, and Taron Johnson there's been a Kaiir Elam, Alex Austin, Rachad Wildgoose, Dane Jackson, and Daequan Hardy. For every Levi Wallace, Cam Lewis, and Ja'Marcus Ingram - there's been countless UDFA's that went the way of most UDFA's. And again, none of them are good starters. Just decent depth players. All this to say that this idea that McDermott is such a good developer of CB talent that he can turn anyone into a good starter isn't true. Just like any position, you might get lucky. But the odds are against it.
  9. You wouldn't be Drafting him as a Backup. At least not in my eyes and those who are advocating for it. Daquan Jones absolutely shouldn't be starting for us. Maybe he could rotate in occasionally as a Backup. But preferably and more likely, he'd be a Post June 1 cut. He was abysmal last season and has very likely hit the wall.
  10. I can understand the opinion that a second solid starting CB may help the team more. But the fact does remain that right now we have Daquan Jones starting and literally no one behind him. Can't even take him off the field and in my opinion, he shouldn't even be on the team anymore. Week 1 we only have Ed Oliver, Daquan Jones, and Dewayne Carter at DT. That's it. Unless you want to rely on Branson Deen and Zion Logue from the Practice Squad.
  11. Dane Jackson was a decent return for a 7th Round Pick - comparable to what you traditionally get from a 7th Rounder. Which is generally a player who doesn't even make your 53. He's not a quality starting CB. We weren't doing ourselves any favors starting him. We never paid him more than 2.1m a year. When the Panthers wanted to give him a 2 yr. contract with 5.1m in guarantees, we let them have him. And they cut him after one year. He's back on a 1 year deal because he knows the system and is a decent depth replacement for Elam. And because he's coming closer to his value. Which is 1.33m for a year. This idea that "hey, he got quality starters out of Jackson and Wallace for a 7th and an Undrafted shot in the dark" is overblown. Yes, he got good return on investment. But let's not act like having either of them starting for us was a great scenario. Both were liabilities that were average at best and bad at worst. And as soon as anyone wanted to pay more than a couple mil a year for them, we let them walk. As we should have. You want to do better than Dane Jackson.
  12. The one silver lining about having so many things that need to be addressed is that it makes it unlikely that we'll be in a position where value doesn't meet need. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying you pigeon hole those 3 positions and reach for guys to fill need. But I think there will be players that fill those needs when we're on the clock. If not, you trade up or trade down to spots where those needs fit value. And luckily, we have a lot of capital to be able to move around the board.
  13. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. AJ Brown to the Eagles and Hollywood Brown to the Cardinals are the biggest that spring to mind for me. I've remembered some lesser players traded for Day 3 picks before, but I can't recall who they were. It's not something you see regularly. And if we're talking about Cook again, he's not getting you much. It's not worth trading him. Whatever you'd get, you'll eventually end up getting back as a Comp pick anyways at a later date. Probably even more if he has a great season this year and someone pays him what he wants.
  14. Yes, there was a massive issue with getting open and creating separation last season. And ultimately, with the season on the line, our pass catchers let us down. And it wasn't just Dalton Kincaid infamously not coming down with that catch on 4th Down. We were kept in the game by Mack Hollins and James Cook playing with their hair on fire. Everyone else provided little to nothing. Mack isn't here anymore. And we're not only hoping guys like Keon Coleman and Dalton Kincaid (who were publicly criticized by the brass) and Curtis Samuel provide more than they did last year - we're relying on it. We're also relying on Joshua Palmer to definitively be more than he's been his whole career. And from a numbers standpoint, we're down a guy. We've lost Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper and gained Joshua Palmer. WR was something I feel should have been upgraded. Instead, it feels we're banking on guys being more than they've been and/or essentially rolling it back. 1T is a definitive need. We have no one to rotate with Daquan Jones and Jones shouldn't be starting anymore. I actually wanted him outright replaced. It's as important of a need as any on this team. But CB is equal to that and WR is also a heavy need. If it were up to me and if the board fell right, we'd be taking a 1T, a CB, and a WR with our first 3 picks - in whatever order the value was at the point of selection. Yet, even after 3/4 of our "definitively will be on the roster" street Free Agent signings (Bosa, Hoecht, and Ogunjobi) were Defensive Lineman - i'm constantly seeing posts like the one I initially replied to saying 2/3 or all 3 of our top picks should be going to DL. It's baffling to me. As I said in another post, it feels like people watched the Super Bowl and only saw the DL. Without recognizing they were able to do what they did because the secondary was able to eliminate the short passing game with superior talent and a physical man scheme and also because the high powered offense was able to score at will - putting the game out of reach early and forcing KC to go one dimensional to keep up. Right now, we have none of those other things and to focus entirely on DL would keep it that way. Many posters wants and Mock Drafts appear as if DL is our only need. And that's far from the case, in my opinion.
  15. I'd doubt it would get you even that high. I agree that trading him is not worth the return. Have him playing his hardest in a push for the Super Bowl this year. And if you can't get him back, the comp pick that will eventually come will be the same or potentially more than you'd get not having him this year anyways.
  16. Cook isn't getting you very far. He's a Running Back. In the last year of his deal. Who's publicly angling for a top dollar contract. Being traded in a year of a very good Running Back class. All of those things make his value take a hit. And trades have been lower than expected this year. Even DK Metcalf went for just a low 2nd. Joe Milton who was expected to yield something more was traded with a 7th for a 5th. The same exact trade (with a 7th for a 5th) was done for Deebo Samuel. Cook's actual value (as opposed to some of the ridiculous valuations he's been given on this board) probably has a ceiling of a high 4th. Package a high 4th with Pick 30, you're not going up the board more than a pick or two.
  17. Said it once, i'll say it a million times - you're not "completely transforming the Defense" by rolling back the same secondary and LB's and going crazy on DL. It'll improve run Defense, for sure. But QB's had no problem negating the pass rush all season by getting the ball out quickly with ease against our pass coverage, by way of subpar to average talent in the Secondary (outside of Benford) and the Zone scheme being picked apart with people constantly out of position. All season long against quality opponents, it seemed like the opposing QB took the snap, dropped back, one mississippi two mississippi - ball out. Meanwhile, Josh had to run all over the field and hope someone got open. Even the most talented line isn't going to blow up the opposing teams OL every snap and get back there that quickly. We definitely need to improve the Line, no doubt about it. But we also have to improve the Secondary. Just focusing on DL will have teams continuing to quick pass on us and just focusing on Secondary will have teams running all over us. We need to do both.
  18. Shavon Revel Jr.'s ACL tear makes for an interesting situation. He tore it on 9/18/24. Which would make Week 1 just about 1 full year from injury. So he should be ready to play by then. But will he be able to do anything in Training Camp or the Pre-Season? And would McDermott start a Rookie who hasn't played Football in a year and is making the leap from College to the Pro's on top of that - especially if he's limited or a no go in the Offseason? I think talent wise, if he were to fall to 30 or within striking range - you have to heavily consider him the pick. Though I do worry about McDermott's conservative nature when it comes to his contributions in Year 1. I'd say start Dane Jackson for a little while, easing Revel in and replacing Jackson as soon as possible. But as we saw with Bishop's injury last year and Hamlin starting in his place - I could see a scenario where if he started Jackson it would just be Jackson's job all year with a focus on Revel in Year 2.
  19. Some fans around here think James Cook is worth a 2nd too and they're just as wrong.
  20. You shouldn't go by that chart. That's the antiquated Jimmy Johnson model developed in the late 80's. It even says on the description of that very chart: "Teams are reported to use a revised trade value model in recent years, as discussed by Bill Belichick. Drafttek provides an alternate trade value model, developed by Rich Hill of Pats Pulpit, which we believe more accurately reflect the trades of the past several years" This is the more accurate, modern version you should go by: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart-Rich-Hill.asp
  21. I just saw two co-stars laughing and having a good time together. Crazy thought: maybe they're friends.
  22. Probably someone else who would (or should) add the question, just as they did, "is this a fair trade?" - to which they can find out, like they did ... it isn't. It's fun to think about fleecing a team in a trade. But that's not something you ever really see in Draft Trades. As dumb as some posters think Jerry Jones is - its not like you seeing him doing dumb trades all over the place. And that's exactly what this would be.
  23. Spoiler alert: it's not. And Hansen is being kind by saying he "thinks" it's too high of a valuation on Cook. It's way too high.
