Geno has been more accurate thus far. Manuel a better leader, game prepper, student of the game. Remember the kid missed significant training camp time with that surgery. He needs reps and real game experience. My biggest worry is accuracy, as he's had some disturbingly errant throws, some of them when he had time and his feet were set and he had a passing lane. The nice thing about questions like the OP posed here is that time will tell what the answer is. If EJ pans out like we all hope, and Goodwin gets healthy and does what I think he will, then this draft of EJ, woods, kiko and goodwin will be the best draft we've had in decades.

TJ Graham should be returning punts tomorrow
Webster Guy posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I know.... I'm the guy who said TJ shouldn't even be in the NFL, but as long as he's going to be on our team we need to utilize his speed and alleged elusiveness. Jim Leonard is sure-handed, but he clearly left some yards on the field last game with his fair catch decisions and lack of speed. I find it unacceptable that our special teams plan for the season now has us giving full time punt return duties to a slow white guy that we signed a week before the season. TJ has the ability to break one for us and impact this game. I'm not worried about our defense, somehow Pettine and the boys will keep them under 20 points, but we are limping into Cleveland with serious injuries to our runners and the Browns defense appears to be the real deal. Special teams can be the difference maker (cue the Marv Levy/Coe College fight song here...) With that in mind, we need to bring some wrinkles they've never seen. A short week makes that very hard to do offensively, but switching return men to someone they've never seen that has a totally different style makes sense here. A worthy risk/reward gamble IMO. -
Is Aaron Williams injured?
Webster Guy replied to Braedenstearns's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man I was really feeling for Aaron after he made that second pick in the endzone. He had already hurt his shoulder on that earlier play, and on the INT in the endzone where he hurt his back he elevated like Megatron and landed directly on his back. There are no pads on your back in the NFL, just up around the collar. If you're hunching over trying to hold on to the football it's pretty much like falling backwards off a dresser and landing on your back. We always knew you could hit Aaron, but nobody knew what kind of heart you had until the Baltimore game. incredible. If he isn't the AFC player of the week then there is something wrong with the voting. There is NO way we win that game without 23. -
Is Marcus Easley this teams version of Steve Tasker?
Webster Guy replied to VirginiaMike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Easley did take one kickoff return to the house I believe. And yes he is WAY faster than tasker its not even close. His knack for being unblockable on kick coverage reminds me of Tasker as well, and it has really helped this team. Marcus could make the pro bowl if he keeps this up. Nice to see him making an impact after all the patience we've had for the kid and all the work he's put in. Im proud of him. Even though its probably not what he imagined when he was drafted, it's still a huge help to our team. -
Is Byrd Replaceable?
Webster Guy replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe Byrd would have won us the Jets game and possibly NE. Ginns td against carolina never would have happened either, although we squeaked that out. I love Aaron Williams style of play, and he was a monster yesterday, but Byrd in peak form is our best option by far. Not signing the tender after we tagged him was a poor choice though, and I agree w Rags about drawing a line in the sand with these selfish punks and their Me First agents. I hope Eugene watched the game yesterday as we picked up 5 INT's without his boy wonder. -
Honestly I've never been a big Carrington fan. Great teammate, size n strength (amazing fg blocker) but never translated to anything more than minor field production in regular season. Branch was a force yesterday. We drove their line back on every play. He and Lawson were great adds this year. Hughes has been flat but we got a lot better with kiko branch n manny.

Tj is our #2 on wr death chart
Webster Guy replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Depth chart is meaningless for WR's. Hogan has played wr ahead of easley this year. They practice hard and evaluate the film and the reps during the week and until goodwin gets back and/or Hackett learns how to get his speed guys the ball, expect nothing but stevie woods and chandler as targets. -
Please don't group Hughes and Lawson together. They are totally different players, and Lawson has been a beast out there. QB sack, pressures, great against the run and picks up screens/counters very well. Hughes has at least three offsides penalties already and has been invisible this year. He looked great in pre season but he's a big disappointment to this team so far

Let me explain how the NFL works
Webster Guy replied to KikO M G's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not bad for your second all time post. Wait, I mean your first....... Hey around my house you hafta say it AT LEAST twice or it gets ignored. I agree that patience is required for any rookie player at any position, especially NFL qb. And by the way, to back up the OP's comment about Eli Manning's rookie year struggles, holy shoot did he stink horribly last game. Here he is an NFL championship qb lookin like a complete slug out there. The biggest sense of frustration now from people who understand this team (I claim to understand the bills quite well, but I also claim to be good in bed so.......) is some of the controllable things we've missed on. We can't control injury or waiting for rookie qb's to grow up or even missing on draft picks, but we CAN do a better job at aligning our talent with the correct offensive gameplan. We can also do a better job at retaining our key players when we have the funds to do so. I disagree with an earlier poster that says there are better owners than others and they make their teams elite year in and year out. I hear a lot about the Rooneys being great owners, and their team is an 0-3 piece of crap (and a boring one at that). Kraft is a horrible owner for allowing his hall of fame qb to sit out there with no decent receivers to throw to because he tries to be cute and outthink everyone (seymour trade was one of the worst moves in NFL history for NE). I guess my point is people on this board seem to be mad about the right things, the controllable ones where the front office failed and where the coaches are showing their inadequacies. We are one Luke Keuchly interference call away from being 0-4 this sunday, but as long as we see progress then you'll see patience. That's how Bills fans work. At least MY kind of fans anyway..... -
I agree. Our run defense is not the issue. They had a ton of run run then pass on 3rd down (sometimes a long 3rd down) and get the first because Geno had time to throw and we were missing 75% of our defensive backfield to injury. I think we will beat them in Buff this year when we get our defense healthy again

MIA - TJ Graham - Track star with no separation
Webster Guy replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That 3rd down play where EJ lofted it along the sideline really high and short over the defender was another example of TJ's horrible field awareness. If he had stayed in bounds ten feet instead of running to the edge to catch that little pass it's a first down. The announcer pointed it out as well. Said it was the receiver not thinking. I still think TJ has some racy photos of Ralph in a speedo or something and he's using it as blackmail to get on the NFL playing field, because he's clearly got no football instincts whatsoever. -
Shoot we paid $5M a year for Derrick freaking Dockery. And he was average. We couldn't have ponied up an extra mil a year for Andy? There is no question we made a mistake letting Levitre walk, I've been saying it since training camp. Colin gets an A for effort and admittedly he has gone against 3 studs in three games so far, but if you don't think we miss Andy badly out there I invite you to rewatch the games and see how fast EJ's pocket collapses from the inside left. Its a joke. Manuel and CJ should be pissed at overdorf and whaley for their New Englandesque front office arrogance. I believe it cost us the patriots game and possibly the Jets as well.

Hackett has been bad so far, no question. In the Carolina game he used that fullback screen to open the game and to open the second half, and that's about the only pre-designed play from the OC that has made me feel like we might have more than just an enthusiastic buddy of our head coach running our offense. I might be wrong but I don't think we have run one screen play this entire season. I know our O line, TE's and running backs know how to run screens because we operated the best screen play offense in the NFL last year. We shredded people with it, and it kept the defense back on their toes a little.

So does Byrd play on sunday or not?
Webster Guy replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love it. A guy who claims to know what Byrd is thinking and tells everybody else "no more posts on this." Um.....ok. Personally I couldnt disagree with you more. (Wait is it OK if I post?). I think Parker and Byrd want the biggest payday they can get from whatever team will pay them. Championships are nice, but what team's are you implying that he wants to go to win a title? Steelers? Cowboys? Eagles? Ravens? maybe the Patriots. Yeah they've shown great player loyalty. Byrd has a grand total of 9 picks in the last three years. Even London Fletcher the bowling ball had 5 last year. Jarius is a good free safety with a nagging injury and poor negotiation instincts. Meanwhile spare us your all-knowing definititive posts and dont pretend your thoughts are anything more than your personal opinion. -
Easley is doing amazing on special teams. He hasn't played one snap at WR yet. The guy has to be so frustrated, waiting for his chance. It looks like they even have Hogan ahead of him on the depth chart based on what we saw on the last play of the Carolina game. Chandler to me still seems solid. He gets open consistently, might be a half step slower than we'd like but he's never been fast, just crafty and sure handed. Bradham seems the odd man out to me this year. Moats, Lawson,Kiko playing well together.

Why didn't we tag Levitre instead of Byrd?
Webster Guy replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Byrd has a grand total of 9 interceptions over the last THREE YEARS. I don't get it, sorry. Even big old London Fletcher had 5 last year. Once a guy makes the pro bowl everyone thinks it means they become better players. He had an amazing rookie season but I'd rather have Levitre right now and so would EJ. -
Why didn't we tag Levitre instead of Byrd?
Webster Guy replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Go watch Colin Brown's performance in the last two games and tell me Levitre isn't worth having on this team. I watched every snap he took last game (2nd time around) and he was getting steamrolled consistently. Specifically watch the 3rd quarter, EJ was getting flushed out or pressured EVERY snap by that Rookie pushing Colin around. We could have afforded him easily (yes i said it, go look at our cap numbers) and we made a mistake by letting him go. Especially with a developing rookie QB who needs to feel OK that his blindside isn't being protected by cheap replacements. Stupid move. In hindsight, the team would have signed Levitre (no tag), then done a sign and trade with Byrd and grabbed a 2nd round 2014 draft pick and another conditional one. Our defense is playing just fine without Byrd but our O line misses Levitre badly right now. -
Late Games: Love 'Em? or Hate 'Em?
Webster Guy replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the occasional 4:00 Bills game because I get a chance to watch the 1 o'clock RedZone/Ticket games and see the majority of the other NFL teams. I wouldn't like it every week, but there are many teams I don't get to see that usually play at 1:00 also. -
Good examples. I think that's why we let Levitre go and refused to give Byrd a long term deal-- It seems that different (and improved) coaching can really raise the level of play from previously mediocre guys. It makes no sense to spend big money on free agents when you don't even know what your true holes are. Maybe Aaron will be just as good as Byrd. I honestly posted the exact opposite of that about three weeks ago, saying that it was the talent level that mattered 95% and coaching was like 5%, but Pettine is making me eat my words. The only exception is probably Levitre, we took a big step backwards with Colin Brown. I rewatched him at every snap and he is a huge liability. Hopefully he wont' get EJ killed this year. But as far as reaching new heights I would include Mario and Manny Lawson in there too. They can both have career years in 2013 with this team.

wouldnt have mattered. That game was destiny for the Bills Nation. Go for 2 point conversion. Get it. (every other bills coach kicks the 1 there) Try a 55 yard field goal after just missing one. Nailed it. (half of our old coaches punt there) 90 seconds left, no timeouts, need 7 to win. NO PROBLEM...... They could have nailed us for a 50 yard penalty at the end and we would have gone for 2 just to show the league we mean business.

For those who have watched Manuel
Webster Guy replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had knee surgery about a month ago, missed a large part of training camp and he's faced two tough defenses in the past two weeks. Despite this, his QB rating is the highest after two games (90) than any rookie that's played QB in the NFL in the last 50 years. His accuracy is mediocre so far but better than Dalton, Kapernick and Roethlisburger did this week. Those 3 pro bowlers I watched miss every pass they threw this weekend. -
Bills D vs. Geno should be fun
Webster Guy replied to billsintaiwan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. Its nice that the Jets follow Carolina on our schedule, we will be well prepared for this game. Pettine will get a game ball for this one.
