Yeah and their edge rushers and that 57 LB were impressive. Our Oline and TE blocking was weak. Hackett seemed to have no roll out plays for his QB to get him out of the pocket. Inexperienced qb + inexperienced offensive coordinator = bad news in the NFL.

Why No Kick-off Return Just Before Halftime?
Webster Guy replied to ICanSleepWhenI'mDead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a good point, especially on the road as heavy underdogs you would think having your return man take a shot at breaking one. Marrone doesnt coach scared like Jauron or Mularkey but he def overlooks risk/ reward scenarios like that sometimes. He doesnt have a strong special teams coach or offensive coordinator to help him through his rookie learning curve the way Pettine is doing for him on D. So I'm not surprised he missed that opportunity for a free return at the end of the 1st half. To back your point even further, if nothing else Goodwin and our special teams need real game reps to improve, so when the time comes that we actually return kickoffs in close games we are ready for the challenge. -
Bad coaching to leave Stevie in to worsen his injury. Plain and simple. If Hogan or Easley cant play better than Stevie with one leg then we should cut them both.

Offense only scored 16 against Miami. Robey had the other 7. Dont care about the stats, I watch every snap and we're in these games because of our defense creating turnovers and key stops. I hope Hackett has a good passing plan because we're gonna need to sling it Sunday. Our runners are hurting and we are gonna need to hit some big plays on O. Brees is smart with the football too. Maybe Byrd will show us his "elite" skills and play at the level he wants to be paid. That would be great.

Aaron Maybin - LB, Toronto Argonauts
Webster Guy replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have something against the guy. Holding out for the ENTIRE training camp was a joke and a true indication of the type of guy he is. Me First Maybin. Guys like that fail no matter where they play. -
I'm always amazed at how passionate this board gets when Buddy Nix is mentioned. It's like throwing a hunk of meat in a tankful of piranha's. My understanding is that our organization uses a draft board for picking players. Everyone is ranked from 1-300 and we cross off players as they're picked and when it's our turn we pick the highest guy on our board. There is no talking about individual players on draft day, every college guy has a rank number by then, and that's how they're picked. How we rank the players on the board is a collaboration of opinions from scouts, coaches, and managers. There is obviously much discussion and debate over how they are ranked, but the GM is likely to be heavily influenced by the opinions of the scouting specialists. I realize the GM has the final say in the draft rankings, but there is a big team effort behind every draft (including scouting consultant firms etc.) It's not a handful of people, it's more like 25. Chan influenced the Spiller pick, Ralph influenced the Marshawn pick, Whaley, Wanny, Edwards, Jauron, Mularkey and hundreds of hunches and gut feelings and guesses from the scouting team. When people try to stick a draft on a GM, it's like saying the president makes laws. It's very misleading. A draft is the product of an entire organization, not one guy or even two or three guys.

When were you most wrong on a player?
Webster Guy replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought trading Lee Evans was a stupid move, that he had 5 more years left in the tank. Turns out he didnt. Losman for sure. Though most everybody was wrong on him. I thought Kiko looked too small to play inside in the NFL. Lastly, I thought my ex wife was really cool and laid back when I drafted her. Whew man did I miss on THAT one. She was like the Maybin of chicks. -
Can we get some "McLovin"?
Webster Guy replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very cool guy at training camp too. Stood in the wicked heat w Levitre and Moorman outside St John Fisher a few years ago, I couldn't believe how long he hung in there signing stuff for the kids in the sun that day. It was a voluntary thing, on their way to the dorms after practice. Every other player bolted but those three. Never forget that because it made my kids day. My son still wears the hat he signed. He's a perfect example of the NFL first rounder that underachieves in the early stages of their career but never gives up and works their ass off to get better because they care about more than the money. We are a better team with that guy, and boy did we need him this year with Brooks, Gilmore and Byrd out for so long. I still think Goodwin should be fielding punts simply because of Leodis' importance to the team vs. injury risk, but whatever....... -
Just a few things about these Bills
Webster Guy replied to DR109's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will give you the fact that he's working with a rookie qb in EJ and an undrafted free agent in Thad. That can't be easy, they're both learning on the job and have less than 10 NFL starts between them. Still I feel like Hackett is a step down from how we ran the O with Chan calling the plays. I think if Marrone had a time machine he'd go back to the day he was hired and NOT hire Hackett as his OC, rather someone who has proven experience and success at the NFL lever. The same criteria he used in sourcing Pettine. -
Webster Guy is a genius poster. Buddy Nix was the original founder of Nix and and the Nice Guys Stevie Johnson secretly has great work ethic but nobody sees it because he trains in a basement lair Serving beer in the 2nd half of the game instead of the first half makes more sense Travis Henry is a good dad

Screens and reverses ?Will we see the same today?
Webster Guy replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
reverses not so much, but this team was the best in the league at screen plays last year, and Hackett has been too arrogant or ignorant to take advantage of the foundation Chan laid here for the screen game. We had it down to a science last year. And it helps keep the D honest just like play action plays do (we need more of those too) I think we ran our very first screen of the SEASON last week and it worked. I don't mean quick checkdowns, I mean screen where the O line lets the defense through on purpose. We aren't gonna win with 17 points today. Good luck Thad. Play like you did last week and we'll win. -
Fred Jackson is a stud. Top 5 back.
Webster Guy replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
wait, what? an opinion backed up with real numbers and facts? how refreshing. seems like we've had a lot of ridiculous posts lately (ie: "Kyle Williams is the reason our run defense sucks" thread) I agree mostly. certainly a top 5 back in terms of completeness and team value when factoring in pass protection, work ethic, leadership, toughness etc. I think you might have underestimated some other back as far as protection goes (for example I think AP is a tremendous pass protector) but that was a solid post Jboy. as far as a pure runner, he isn't in the top 10, but I sure love the guy. Our best Bill and the reason I have forgiven Levy for his weak performance as GM here. -
I'm in the same boat. This was a case of a player dictating what THEY want, not the other way around. Lynch wasn't going to get into any more trouble, he was a 23 year old punk from an impoverished Oakland childhood who was just given millions of dollars. Guys like that are going to make mistakes, and he did his share of it for sure. Then he just wanted out and to get a fresh start like anyone would who screwed up and felt like the community hated him. Guys I know you hear this all the time from people claiming to have inside information on the Bills drafting etc., but I honestly had 100% accurate firsthand information on what happened the day we drafted Lynch, and it was Ralph insisting I WANT A RUNNING BACK that forced us to abandon the draft board and pick Marshawn. Joe Staley the Tackle from Michigan was highest on our board and Levy was pushing hard for him but Ralph intervened and we took a guy that ended up being a waste of a pick. All due respect to Hairston, who has had some decent games for us. Obviously Carder was a waste.
-
My favoirite thing about Kiko is that he was a FREE draft pick from that trade down with the Rams and we finally finally finally drafted a pro bowl linebacker. We were SO due for a stellar draft and we got one (pending EJ's success.....c'mon buddy don't let us down....)

Gilmores club? Anyone know when it comes off?
Webster Guy replied to Dylanme8's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its not a club. Its part of his arm, his hand grew into that shape after rehabbing with the aliens in district 9. His left eye is bigger than his right eye now too. -
Are Superbowl Wins a Fair Way to Rate QBs?
Webster Guy replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. Individual sales, not TEAM sales. You refute your own point. What does Norwoods kick have to do with Andre Reed's skills? -
Kyle Williams' penalty
Webster Guy replied to Bills Fan since '64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are 7 officials that can throw flags for each play. There are 22 players out there with at least 10 individual battles per play (if u assume the free safety and qb arent engaged directly). There are simply not enough eyes out there to catch every cheap shot or late hit, and the guys know that the retailiators get flagged just much as the original offenders. Standing up for your guys is one thing, but getting 15 yard penalties for it kills your team. Shots at the knees is one thing, but a late hit isnt worth getting flagged. You can still talk to a player from a distance and not get taunting, but getting in their face and yelling hurts your team more than it helps. -
The NFL conversion percentage of 2 pointers is 48% since they've adopted it in the big leagues. I love how people say "absolutely not" without thinking. You are 7 point underdog at home and you have a QB in his 2nd nfl start. Your secondary is playing poorly and for the first time all year your kick coverage is looking weak. When you flip a coin you have a 50% chance of winning the toss (unless you're the Saints, who have lost a remarkable 11 straight coin flips at the outset of their games) I don't know what the new percentages are with the 2 year old rule that a field goal doesn't win it automatically, but it's safe to say that you have a greater chance of winning if you win the overtime toss. It used to be 60% of the teams in OT that win the coin toss win the game. It's lower with the rule change, say 52% of the teams that win the coin toss win the game. With that in mind, you are looking at a virtual push here probability-wise. Flip a coin or go for 2. The same odds, it just depends on if you feel like extending the game, how are your injuries? weather? do you have a 2pt conversion play that you feel confident in based on the personnel they have and you have? Did you have a long week (we had a 10 day break) where maybe you were able to put in a special play for this situation? Does the other team have a time out for personnel change? It's a great question for the logical thinker, and a long way from "absolutely not"...... In hindsight, we lost the game in OT, played poorly and never really had a chance. Maybe one play where we dictate the outcome of the game instead of them would have ended in a different result.

oh man i think FJax is top 5 in the league at the goal line. finds the hole, moves the pile, never stops the legs churning. Choice runs hard and very low I agree, but don't think he's in Freddy's league

Very disappointed in Hogan
Webster Guy replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hogan normally has very good hands. I agree that Easley seems like he's got a bigger upside but Hogan is better in practices. I think he runs stevie's routes better too. -
The decline of Stevie Johnson ?
Webster Guy replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he could do a better job of staying in shape all year. I have no idea what his year round workouts consist of, and maybe he's doing everything he can in the offseason to be in peak physical condition, I just get the sense that Stevie isn't the kind of guy that takes anything too seriously and that includes off season conditioning. If I were a GM and I signed a guy to a long term contract I would have specific terms in writing for off season strength and conditioning and ensure my investment will train like the true professional I am paying him to be. -
We just had what looks like one of the best drafts im franchise history. If EJ pans out it will be THE best. We got a stud WR, the best LB we've had since I can remember (on a free trade down pick) and Goodwin looks like he can be a game changer. But you say the front office should all be fired? Seems to me whaley and co. are doing quite well. I wouldnt fire anybody, We are one more solid draft away from having the most talent in our division.

Marquise Goodwin Playing Catch Up
Webster Guy replied to Braedenstearns's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i agree he should be full time punt and kick returner. I still think it's ridiculous that we don't have anyone on the team that can beat Leonard out for punt return duties. The guy wasn't even on our team until shortly before the season started. I don't have a lot of faith in Hackett and his ability to use our speed guys effectively, but maybe he's learning on the job and will have a few plays for Marquise when the time comes. We need more offense man. I would love to see Goodwin play in place of TJ Graham for a few games. It's not like TJ is productive, and Goodwin has some major upside. -
For those of you missing Levitre
Webster Guy replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Legursky was the replacement, Brown was/is the backup. But I agree about taking Levitre back in a heartbeat. There is no denying his talent, I don't care what the Tennessee radio jocks say. He was great at pulling, fast and athletic, strong run blocker, and worked very well with the Eric and Cordy. Maybe he;s not as effective because he's playing for money instead of the team he wanted to play for in Buff.
