  1. Ok I'm over posting but I don't care about Nassib as an individual. I care that there was a QB on the third day of the draft still on the board that Gruden and some other experienced football minds felt was the BEST qb in the draft, and we passed. Barkley would have been fine with me too, whichever the team had rated higher. Only time will tell. This conversation is all based on how well the individuals play in the future. Like most of my posts, I hope I'm wrong.
  2. I hope so. Maybe Duke beats the odds and becomes a solid NFL pro. His highlights look great. If Manuel is everything we hope he is, then it was right to pass on Nassib. The odds of quarterbacks with raw talent and "huge upside" becoming solid NFL players are stacked against us. Historically it"s never happened once that I can recall.
  3. Ok so you don't want the best three competing for the QB job then because it might make your 1st round pick feel undue pressure. (you know, the first QB picked coming into a program that hasn't seen the playoffs since he was 9 years old) Like I said, without a franchise QB you are nothing in this league. Maximize your chances to find one at all costs. If Manuel is the guy then he has nothing to worry about, if he isn't then I'd rather try another rookie in a few years instead of Kolb or TJackson.
  4. Someone needs to explain to me why we had safety Duke Williams rated as a better move for this organization than to take Nassib in the 4th round. THE FOURTH ROUND ! Look what happened to the Seahawks last year, they took a QB in the third round (and got blasted for it by the Kipers of the world) even though they had their QB situation shored up. They open the competition in training camp and find that their third round draft pick Russel Wilson is quickly grasping the NFL game and it changes their entire team to a serious playoff contender. Forget all the "well we coached him at SU so he's a good fit" crap, I don't care if he played for Kutztown State--in a time when all we talk about is getting a good quarterback for this team, here's a guy that was VERY highly rated by some experienced NFL men sitting there in the fourth freaking round and we decide to take a safety that won't even see the field this year. The right call was to take Nassib, release Tarvaris Jackson, and go into training camp with Kolb, Manuel and Nassib. May the best man win. This league is about maximizing your chances to get a franchise quarterback. It's that simple. If you think I'm wrong, send me Duke Williams stats in three years and I'll admit it.
  5. Randy ran that before the electronic timer by the way.
  6. Well it definitely wasn't me, I don't think I've ever hit one except for Dareus, and I have a very good inside source close to a certain GM in grooming. The problem is you don't know who is going to be gone by the time you pick. Last year I can say with certainty the Bills were taking Keuchly if Carolina hadn't snatched him. (he ended up getting NFL defensive rookie of the year by the way) I'll know by this evening what tonight's scenario is going to be, but by then who cares, we're picking around 9pm anyway......... I won't be home but maybe I'll post from my phone just to show how much I think I know. The operative word being THINK.....
  7. If I'm Dansby's agent, I have an aging but still productive LB I would do exactly what they're doing: 1. Put an inordinately high asking price out there until the draft. Let his production numbers and video highlights speak for themselves. (They're both impressive) 2. After the draft there will be a few teams that targeted LB's in the draft but never got them for whatever reason. Usually the Best Player Available teams fall in this category, teams that need LB help but wouldn't deviate from the draft board rankings for need. 3. Wait for the phone to ring when the draft is over, play the top two teams who show the most interest against each other to get the contract that has the most guaranteed money. I would guess a 3 year deal, $5m guaranteed, worth 10 if he plays it out. From what I remember of this dude playing against us, he is a force out there. And his muscles are made from Buffalo meat.........
  8. This is obviously a bold statement to make if you've been following this draft class, and there's a chance he's saying that as a smokescreen to trade spots on draft day, but if he genuinely believes this then I think we might see a trade down on day one. Consider: Barkley and Nassib as the likely Bills QB targets. There will be some very coveted non QB picks sitting there at 8 that teams in the 20-30 range are dying to get. Guys like CB Dee Milliner, WR Tavon Austin etc., who probably won't make it past 15. Buffalo can drop 10 or 20 spots, still get one of their top rated QB's and pick up another very high pick in the process. I know it's not very likely for old-school Buddy to get fancy on draft day, but I'm predicting a trade down and the Bills still get their man.
  9. Unless you already have some decent ones and only have one proven NFL receiver on your team and zero proven QB's.
  10. Yes. How dare you imply a swearword around a bunch of hardcore football dudes. I'm quitting this site. What's next, pictures of cheerleaders in tight clothes? The horror......
  11. That's some interesting data for sure. I think the Bills are going to take Patterson at 8 thinking that even though he's raw, in his second season when we are ready to make a run, he'll be ready. If we go into this season relying on Stevie and late round WR talent it's gonna be a long year for CJ and our QB.
  12. look at Jaybee the rookie, posting like a master. i agree, RG might have the best passing touch of all the NFL qb's. It just gets overshadowed by his wheels sometimes and people start thinking he's like Vick which he's not. Gruden called it before RG even took an NFL snap: You can't be a running quarterback in the NFL and expect to be able to be playing your best ball in the post season after 16 games of pounding. You can come out of the gates fast and win ten games, but eventually they'll get to you, and the cold climates of the playoff season with the beat up turf are a nightmare for mobility and increased injury risk. RG is smart, he'll tone it down and rely on his arm and good decision making. The kid threw almost 400 passes as a rookie and only had 5 picks. At age 22 that's not a bad start.
  13. I'm always amazed at how people worry about cap room with our team. We could sign Revis twice with the extra money we're going to have sitting around this season. Is there some other free agent we're saving the money for that I don't know about, or are we just worried about Ralph having enough money to buy his meds ? The injury is obviously a legitimate concern, and I don't know much about it, but if he is going to be healthy and back to form, he's one of the best players to ever play the position and he's in the prime of his career. Maybe the Jets wouldn't trade him to us, but to say you'd rather gamble on a new player in a year when the top 10 draft picks are almost all question marks vs. signing the best corner in the league makes me think you have confidence in the way this team evaluates and drafts college players. Revis just might like to play for Pettine again in a different scene against Woody and the Jets twice a year. I'd do that deal in a second.
  14. To everyone on this board who says "hey that's in the past" or "time to move on" every time one of us looks at previous drafts and says WHAT IF, please hear my plea: 1. We talk plenty about the current state of the team and future picks. 95% percent or more it's all we talk about. 2. The current state of our team can get boring, (especially OUR team's current state) 3. Some of us enjoy the What If Scenario's for the same reason some of like to think of how our lives would be different if we married that ex girlfriend, chose a different career or invented a time machine to go back and tell Norwood to aim a tad left. 4. Revisiting drafts is intriguing. Why did everyone (including Seattle) pass on Russel Wilson those first two rounds, what did Buddy see in TJ Graham that he liked better than Wilson's potential, what would our team look like if we took AJ Green and Kap instead of Dareus and Aaron Williams. I like thinking about those scenarios. The ability to judge college talent and how it will translate to NFL is probably the hardest thing in all of sports. Sometimes the very best player in the country won't even have a job in two years. Its interesting. Don't worry, the front office is focused on the future. If you insist on doing the same then don't click on the links that discuss previous drafts.
  15. Unless there is a significant free agent WR signing, I do not see us going into the season with ONE good (and injury prone) receiver when most teams have three. I think we will take WR Patterson at 8, and take the highest QB on our board in the second round. The way this draft talent is being graded, it's the worst year in a long time to reach for need because some positions are very weak, but Patterson is probably the most reasonable Need vs BPA compromise risk out there. Jarvis Jones is slow and was a total dick to some local fans that tried to get his autograph last week. One guy said he is the rudest person he's ever met. I don't think the new regime is going to burn their first pick on a character issue guy. I also think Nassib will be there in the second when we pick. Then again I thought Georgetown was going to win the NCAA tourney.
  16. Something tells me Stevie Johnson will be on that list someday. I hope I'm wrong.
  17. Full season shape helps prevent injuries when the real bulleta fly. He's talented but lazy.
  18. I'm definitely guilty of this. I catch myself thinking there has to be a blue chip LB or WR at 8 that is a sure thing, with much better odds of succeeding than reaching for these Mallet/Gabbert type QB's we have to choose from this year. Then I read the mocks with us taking a guy like Patterson at WR and all the analysts say he's raw and still a reach at 8 and I'm thinking we might as well roll the dice on a thrower. This draft class is the strangest one I can remember.
  19. This is precisely how I feel. Its like having a bad marriage that isn't bad enough to end. And for the record, you moneyball guys are crackin' me up here with your Brees v Fitz stuff. It reminds me of that great Chevy Chase line on SNL when he's the politician and they throw all these figures at him and he says "uh....its my understanding there would BE no math....." So here's my own number for you stat boys: There have been only six 5000 yard passing season in NFL history, and Brees has three of them.
  20. We've had some pretty good pickups after the draft is over. Jason Peters, Jabari Greer come to mind. WR's Nelson and Jones more recently. Our scouting department hasn't really found any gems in awhile though, draft or otherwise. Its amazing the difference between college and pro football, and how many stellar collegians simply can't adjust and do well at NFL speed. I have zero confidence in our ability to assess players based on our track record in Buffalo--it must be harder than it seems. I'm praying we don't reach for a QB this year just because we need one. Too many needs on this team to whiff at the 8th pick. I honestly think they're going to take Nassib in the 2nd which worries me greatly.
  21. There were 4 franchise qb's in the last three years to come out of college. luck RG Russell Wilson Kap We had zero shot at Luck or RG. Everyone missed on Russell Wilson several times over. Kap was the only guy we should have had, which 31 other teams are saying right now. That could have changed Nix's legacy. From all indications, Chan loved Kap, but Buddy has always loved corners and Aaron Williams was a beast in college so they made the mistake of picking him with Kap still on the board. I wouldn't fire him because of that though. I'd fire him for signing Fitz to a huge contract when we were on a winning streak instead of waiting for the season to play out to at least ten games. That was a joke of a move and we're paying for it still.
  22. Yeah that was ridiculous. Brady throwing a touchdown and pointing to his Myra sticker on this shirt and then up to the heavens. If she was as great of a lady as everyone says she was, that kind of stuff would have her rolling over in her grave. I call Kraft "lucky Bob" because he won the QB draft lottery. Anyway I think lucky Bob was referring to ALL PRO, not pro bowlers. There is a big difference. He's confused, as usual. An all-pro is a player who is determined to be the best at their position as voted on by a selected panel of sports writers. One per position. Adrian Peterson and Peyton Manning were 2012 ALL PRO's, Arian Foster and Tom Brady were not. A pro-bowl player is any player who appears in the pro bowl based on votes by the fans, the players, and the coaches. In a lot of cases they get there because of injury or superbowl appearances by other guys and are chosen by the Pro Bowl coaches.
  23. agreed. they dump good players like they can be replaced all the time. still laughing about the Seymour trade. their defense has sucked for years. never has there been a better example of how important a qb is to a team (well, that and Peyton getting hurt and watching Indy go from playoff team to worst team ever)
  24. Get a shot to start? Yeah that's an understatement. He's an OLB. Is there someone currently on our team you see beating him out for the job?
