  1. typical preseason post. fill in blanks, use the words clueless, overpaid, and say how bad our Oline is. Dont mention this is almost the exact same offensive personnel that averaged 25ppg last year, or that Tyrod had higher qbr than guys like Rivers, BigBen, Wilson, Carr etc. Also try to comment on how screwed we are without Watkins 2 TD's and 430 yards of production last year. Throw in a Schwartz is a genius comment, how stupid our trades are despite its minimum 3 years to assess, and fit in the 17 year drought somewhere. Please hurry up sept 10th, we are dyin over here.....
  2. I just rewatched the game on the speed DVR, and I'm going to make two points here: 1. If you aren't in the habit of re-watching Bills games you should give it a shot. I have the Directv Genie remote with the 30 second FWD button and you honestly can watch an entire game in 30 minutes. You can really observe play dynamics, track individual players and get a much better feel for the play executions, what went right and what didn't. I have watched games in real time and then attempted to break them down afterward, then grabbed the remote and speed watched it one more time and realized I see three times as much the second time through. I don't normally go over preseason stuff, but a friend of mine is a huge Peterman fan from college and he made me do it. As you all saw, it was pretty exciting to see a green kid with that much pocket presence, a huge intangible and pretty rare. Looked better on the second viewing. 2. The more I watched, it struck me that the coaches are at such a disadvantage trying to evaluate the offensive players when we had such inconsistent O-line play. Then you have the issue of trying to evaluate WR's when their QB has no time to throw it, and even it he does get the ball off, he's an average or below average thrower etc. It's the nightmare scenario: I can only keep half of these guys but I really can't tell how well they'll do until it's real bullets with the starting team on Sunday. So much of this job is evaluation, it struck me tonight that it's probably half the job of being a coach. Say what you want about the GM being the personnel guy, it's the coaches that control the cuts now, and it's such an inexact science. Crazy sport.
  3. He seemed small standing next to him at camp. (and by small I mean NFL LB small.) he's a beast compared to normal people but I got the strong safety/ special teams feel from the guy. One thing I liked is he isn't fake jacked up like the Brandon Spoon body, seems a natural build, fast 220lb dude. I saw him play two games for BC, he's a mean streak guy. Perfect for Crossman
  4. Tyrod had a better qb rating than Rivers, Big Ben, Russel Wilson, Carr etc. last year. He's a good NFL qb who averaged 25+ points per game last year with lots of hurt receivers. He's fun to watch and scares other defenses, usually they have to keep a spy in to prevent scrambling which opens up the passing field. I he had a good defense and kicking game last year we win 10 games. He's not getting benched if he's healthy unless it's late in the season. Peterman needs a year, not a few months.
  5. James is making the cb squad, he deserves it man, get him on the field baby
  6. Achilles are tough man. Sam Cowart was a top LB and he never could regain his burst.
  7. Streater looks legit, and Zay is gonna need to learn to play the outside all the time, we essentially have two premier proven slot guys in boldin and Matthews. i keep saying this but it bears repeating: we scored 25 ppg last year with Sammy basically a non factor until the very end. This offense can hold its own (Glenn is a big factor of course). TT is never going to be a gunslinger, but he and shady are probably the two most fun athletes to watch improvise in the entire league. dont worry about the wr's, we'll be fine. nice to have the jets on our home opener, give us a chance to adapt all these new players and still get a W.
  8. peterman is at least a year away from being ready. at least.
  9. we traded a guy who scored a whopping two touchdowns for us last year and we replaced a corner with someone better suited to play zone than Darby. Kyle understands. At $500k per game that equates to roughly $10,000 per snap, of which each play last about 4 seconds.
  10. A durable WR that wont cost us $10m next year and will be with us for 4+ years on a rookie contract. wonder if he will beat the 2 TD's and 400 yards Sammy got us last year? Hey 14 was my favorite Bill, and this deal will take many years to evaluate, but we scored 25 ppg last year with basically no Sammy, so don't think we can't be in that range again. Our draft capital puts us in a position to get a franchise qb regardless of what number we draft. You might love this trade as we ramp up and Brady gets old. .
  11. Given his history of 8 different injuries in 3 years, would you have Watkins doing anything but running out of bounds like he did last year? He was never a great YAC guy since college, he had enough chances to show it. Running with the ball after catching it in college is a whole different thing than the NFL. Look, the guy scored a pair of TD's and had less than 500 yards last year. We still averaged 25 points per game and that includes the tanked Jets game with Cardale playing. Sammy was my favorite player but I still think there's a good chance in a few years we'll look back and say that was a good move to unload him. The Rams still stink, that #2 pick has a good chance of being in the 35th overall range, that's a sweet place to get talent. .
  12. Franchise qb's are where you start. Obviously. I've seen weak coaches win superbowls. The Pats have great coaching and skilled players yet we shut them out in their own stadium last year without their franchise qb. shut out. in foxboro. hall of fame coach. with a fairly average Bills defense. zero points. i agree the draft is a crapshoot, but having strong drafts is the way to the top, and amassing picks gives us a chance to break out and get a stud qq and a ton of other solid AFFORDABLE players for 4-5 years.
  13. Sammy was the favorite player on the team for a lot of us, but the fact is Matthews had more NFL production. After awhile, you have to abandon potential and look at pure results. When our final 53 shapes up I think you will see us getting another 3rd rounder in compensatory picks and a conditional 2,3,or 4th for Ragland depending on his starts or whatever factor they agree on. This is a seriously powerful way to build a team and make a run, and we're doing it to perfection. Yes it cost us Sammy but it's the only way out of mediocrity. This is still a fun team to watch with lots of talent. But with all this draft capital we are a force in this league again.
  14. Bills Andre, Moulds NFL Moss, Megatron, Largent, Rice
  15. Similar to rib issues, hurts but doesnt affect strength or endurance, and doesn't worsen. nothing a little needle at 12:30 every sunday can't fix. this is probably a mm under the skin.
  16. yes. good camps for both so far. we currently have two premier slot guys in Matthews and Boldin, neither are field stretchers. streater is fast as hell, and unlike goodwin can still run a crisp cut off route. what the niners don't realize is we've had a great deep ball thrower here in Tyrod for years. Goody got released because he's too fragile and a one trick pony. i love that we have bigger stronger more durable guys like Boldin and Matthews. helps in run blocking too.
  17. uh ok. whatever methodology you use to determine trade value is flawed. He's the perfect candidate for a conditional trade with a 3-4 team. SEC defensive player of the year, still essentially a rookie with a year of film study under his belt.
  18. the way i see it, this team scored 25 points per game last year without much input from Sammy. Tyrod was a big part of that. No way he goes unless we got a super offer.
  19. Pegula should double his talent scout teams and analysts immediately. The draft is 7 months away, it will be the biggest in this teams history. I think Ragland should be next to go, even for a third. stockpile baby, and feast this spring
  20. Sammy is a force for sure, but the trade makes sense. Funny that he and Woods are both in L. A., two great ballers in a completely opposite environment than Buffalo. Sammy will get his long term deal now, before the season starts, and set himself up for life financially regardless of future injuries, so i'm sure he feels better in that sense. Sad to see such an elite talent go, but I hope he beats Julio and Antonio and OBJ in yards this year and shakes the injury bug.
  21. Dropping defensive lineman is done by every single team in the NFL, it's as old as Dick LeBeau himself. But I like Fraziers style for our squad. One of the tenants of the Leslie Frazier defense is preventing first downs. The "punts as turnovers" principle is strong with Frazier, who always preaches limiting damage and keeping plays in front of his defense, rather than going with an aggressive approach. You won't see as many turnovers or sacks, but you also won't give up three games of 200+ yard rushers like last year. By Frazier's second year in charge of the defense (2008), the Vikings became top-5 in the NFL in not allowing first downs. They would remain a top-10 first-down preventing defense until 2011, Frazier's first full year as head coach of the Vikings. To me he's a classic cover 2 guy, which is why I'm amazed we didn't stay put and draft Malik Hooker, but that's another story.
  22. well said. some people get so sensitive its ridiculous. the one phrase you forgot for the white guys is "knows how to play within his limitations" i first heard that about Kelso and it gets thrown around on espn all the time. i still dont know exactly what it means...
