  1. He's not a bum or a top 5 GM. He's somewhere in between but now is the time for him to truly feed his ego and take this team over the top. I think he may planning to do this behind the scenes but until we see it happen there's reason for concern and why this mack trade is going to generate this type of discussion.
  2. Neither did Von Miller who was hurt and had low sack numbers the last few years with Denver. But he had 7 sacks down the stretch for the Rams in about half a season there and also had 4 sacks in the playoffs including 2 in the SB win against the Bengals. I don't care about not getting Mack if something bigger is planned. But if we are sitting here a few months from now looking at a dline with mostly the same guys as last year + another marginal 4 sack a season FA and unproven draft pick I imagine a lot of fans are going to be a bit antsy and truly questioning the long term viability of this current regime. Everyone knows what needs to be done and not just the fanbase....
  3. It's easy to give credit to Beane for Allen and Diggs (although he could have had a younger, better player that the Vikings drafted with our pick). But I think the biggest problem with all the slobbering over Beane is fans are projecting what they believe and think is going to happen under his watch (i.e. winning a SB someday) vs. the actual reality of the situation. And that reality is a few division titles and one AFC championship blowout loss. And outside of Allen and Diggs trade most of his top draft picks haven't amounted to much so far. This is why a lot of folks feel he'd be better off making a Diggs like trade again but for the defense now. No matter what way you slice it, if Beane doesn't make a power move soon in form of trade or FA signing there is absolutely nothing to indicate this team is going to be among the elite contenders in 2022. They may not even win the division depending on what the Pats and Dolphins do. Allen can't do everything especially with marginal garbage on defense which is still this teams biggest issue regardless of the hollow regular season rankings and stat padding against backups.
  4. Again, current salary cap means nothing and Beane can free up boatloads of money at any given moment to accommodate a deal like this.
  5. If you take away last year in which he was injured most the season and his rookie year, his career low in sacks is 8.5 in a single season. And even that would make him the leader on this dline which has been nothing but a bunch of guys average 4-6 sacks a year under McDermott. Like myself and others have said, it's time for Beane to give up much more than he is going to be comfortable with in terms of picks/money/etc to make a splash and find a guy like this. But if we could have made this same deal for mack and Beane passed it raises serious red flags in terms of what his plan is.
  6. He is coming off a down year/injury, but if this same deal could have been on the table for the Bills and we passed that's a bit concerning as this is almost lopsided in the Chargers favor if Mack has a lot left in the tank. Of course maybe we have our eyes on a much bigger prize in which this is going to be irrelevant in hindsight.
  7. Not shocked at all to see all 3 AFCE division rivals in the mix for his services. Broncos make sense for a number of reasons too including reunion with Wilson, Rams looking to add to their superteam as well for another one year run in 2022.
  8. Arms race indeed. And this is what scares me the most about Beane and what the Bills do this offseason (unless the Pegula's interfere and make demands of course)...holding firm signing lesser tier FA's and not giving up any draft picks. Of course I'll reserve final judgement until I see what happens in the coming weeks but the time is now to do something out of character if you are Beane and not have blind faith in all this 'process' crap 6 years into the regime. There's simply too many good teams in the AFC and most are about to get much better considering some of the cap room available (Dolphins will be big time players).
  9. This too.....need guys that can stay healthy and be 'available' as McD puts it.
  10. Seeing rumors in Chiefs land that they might trade their 1st rounder (30 overall) for Metcalf. If it happens that's a very scary proposition trying to defend an offense with Kelce/Hill/Metcalf. Probably would be looking at another 2007 Patriots type of team and offense.
  11. Big time FA dud, had like 3 total sacks the last two years with the Lions. Maybe he goes back to the Pats on a cheap deal since that's where his previous success and production was but I wouldn't be interested if I'm the Bills.
  12. Here's the thing lost in these rumors about trading Edmunds (and possibly pouncing on a guy like Wagner)....it's not that he's a bad player, it's that he's going to cost a lot of money to resign to a long term deal. So if you are Beane and seriously considering this type of trade this is what you get in return: - $12 million in immediate cap space to put towards a true game changing type of player (DE) - The ability to sign a stop gap veteran like Wagner likely to a cap friendly deal because he's going to want a chance at a ring. They are plenty of other 'plan b' type of MLB available if not him. - At minimum in a trade you are probably looking at multiple picks including a 2nd rounder and/or veteran player at other position of need. - Knowing you are going to have to invest $15 - $20 million per year going forward in a player that's probably reached his ceiling in this league. Who knows what will happen but I think it's foolish to automatically dismiss any rumor out there about moving on from Edmunds for this simple fact.
  13. This has certainly been a good team, but I would vehemently disagree about this being a top 5 roster especially looking at the lack of game changing talent on the defensive side of the ball. But this is why this offseason is so critical because Beane can make this roster much better if he does swing big on the defensive side and adds at least one proven game changer in the form of a pass rusher.
  14. I would suspect that's all he's going to get for the Bills or any other team at this point and I'd 100% fine with that.
  15. Anything to keep him away from Rogers and the Packers I suppose...
  16. Expected but a little surprised at the reports they may have wanted to keep him with a paycut? My only guess is they offered to restructure to vet type minimum to compete in camp for a roster spot because other than that can't imagine teams will be lining up to sign him for anything more than depth if they've watched the tape the last few years.
  17. So are the Chiefs and they are about to go large in FA too based on various reports. Current salary cap situation means nothing and there are tons of other pending moves Beane can/will make.
  18. If there is any merit to this Brian Flores must have a truly unhealthy obsession with Watson and is pounding his new bosses to make this move.
  19. I've said all along that it makes sense to move on and this would be a huge win for Edmunds getting to play with his brothers and in a 3-4 type of defense he belongs in with Mike Tomlin. Really hoping there's truth to this....
  20. They are either going to orchestrate another big trade (Carr?) or have to be targeting someone like Trubisky. Either way I don't think you make this move without a concrete plan in place because it would make zero sense to draft a rookie QB with the talent and roster on hand there.
  21. Another interesting domino to fall and you wonder what the Colts are up to at QB now because that is a team and roster that can can compete for a championship now. Also is Wentz really going to be an upgrade over Heineke? He's really the same type of player (i.e. inconsistent and turnover prone).
  22. Making a big trade or FA signing for a premier pass rusher is far from mortgaging the future. But if you use the Rams approach and throw away your next 5 years with of top draft picks and also sign a bunch of guys to massive FA deals then sure you are selling out your future with the hopes of winning it all right away.
  23. Not saying he terrible but I see him more as a Jay Cutler type...can put up big numbers and fill the stat sheet but wilts under pressure and against good teams. In fact his only career playoff win came against our very own Bills in a few years ago in a game we also probably should should have won. Still think any team that gives up a lot in a trade is stupid though since Watson essentially quit on his current team and big time extension he signed.
  24. This is my concern as well, 2019 looked to be the peak for him which isn't saying much to begin with. But if he did regain that form in Buffalo again he's at worse a solid rotational piece which this team seems to love.
  25. That's a biproduct of playing behind a garbage oline which Seattle has had around him most of his time there minus the dominant SB years. Denver's oline looks to be an sizable upgrade on paper.
