  1. He'll probably go late second or early 3rd so he's not late enough to fit the parameters of this thread, but I'm intrigued by Sam Williams, an edge rusher from Ole Miss who measures 6'4" 265 lbs and runs a 4.46 40. He's listed as a 3-4 OLB, but I can't se any reason he wouldn't make a good RDE in a 4-3.
  2. On the front page of this web site is a link to an article that says Chandler Jones is more interested in finding the right fit to maximize his potential than making the most money he can. If he meets with Beane, I assume McDermott will be part of that meeting for the purpose of explaining how he could be used. Then they'll talk money. Buffalo is good enough now that some quality free agents may give a discount because signing with Buffalo means a chance at winning Super Bowls. Maybe Chandler is one of them.
  3. The fact that Haack accepted such a renegotiation of his contract suggests he understands how bad he stunk this past season. I'll be elated if the Bills replace him, but at least his contract is less of a cap liability now.
  4. I thought his combine results were underwhelming. He'll be a good pro, but I'm hoping for something a little more impactful in a first round pick. At WR, I think Buffalo needs some speed. Diggs is pretty fast, but outside of him the Bills are pretty average in the speed department, especially if McKenzie is gone.
  5. Of course, free agency will have a bearing on what the Bills do. So will the picks of the teams ahead of Buffalo. So, any prediction of the Bills' pick has to be fraught with "ifs" and "buts." I think the Bills will be intrigued by a number of players. I'd be surprised if they have their football hearts set on Tyler Linderbaum for reasons other have alluded to: a lack of size and positional flexibility. There are a number of players possessing elite traits, who might be available. Jameson Williamson is one. So is Jermaine Johnson, the three defensive linemen from Georgia. I think if any of them are available, Buffalo will give serious consideration. I don't think Sauce Gardner will be available, nor will Stingley. None of the rest of the CBs have elite speed and athleticism. Any of Kaier Elam, Andrew Booth Trent McDuffie, or Roger McCreary would be a solid, safe pick. I could see any of them ending up as a Bill, but that's less likely if a player with elite traits is available. It's the same with interior linemen. Zion Johnson is a good player with position versatility Kenyon Green is another one. He might be a bit more physical, but a little less position flexible. That's about as much as I'm willing to narrow it down.
  6. Gee. That's Greg Roman's philosophy. It does make some sense. If Josh Allen is your QB, you'd better have an offense that takes advantage of his arm strength. I think that any changes will be in the form of tweaks rather than an overhaul. I'm sure he'll want to have an effective run game, both to provide some balance and to draw the safeties closer to the line, thus opening up deep routes. It wouldn't surprise me if tight ends got more touches, but it's not going to turn into a tight end centered offense.
  7. That freakish foot speed means he might have higher upside than a two down run stuffer. Whether or not the Bills think he's worth the 25th overall depends on the due diligence the Bills are able to do in assessing whether he can take advantage of that raw athleticism and turn into a three down player.
  8. There are receivers who are both. If there are two good receivers and one of them runs a 4.3 and one runs a 4.6, guess which one I want.
  9. Gronk is talented and probably has enough left in the tank to be a valuable addition, but I sort of doubt he's a process guy. He's not known for being real diligent in practice and he's clearly been a "me guy" in recent years. I would guess and hope that adding Gronk to the roster would be dependent on him being able to demonstrate some kind of commitment to being a good team player.
  10. He had trouble coming up with something original since there were already two other threads saying the same thing.
  11. Similar in size and even faster than Randy Moss. The definition of athletic freak.
  12. Ideally, for late season games, you would need some way to keep moisture content of the soil controlled later in the season. You'd need great drainage at a minimum. Even better would be some way to heat the turf. That would keep the grass growing longer and minimize late season muddiness. Normally grass will grow if the air temperature is above 50 degrees. Below 50 it becomes dormant. In Rochester, we are often mowing into November now, One year we had to mow once in December. The climate is definitely changing
  13. I've seen several multi-round mock drafts projecting Araiza to the Bills, anywhere from round 5 to 7. I also saw a mock with Buffalo picking the second ranked punter prospect, though Araiza is the one with the freakish leg strength. I'd be very comfortable with Araiza in the 5th, less so in the 4th. There are some potential advantages, but also a risk. Sometimes punters outkick their coverage, leading to huge returns. Hopefully, he has the accuracy to put a punt out of bounds without sacrificing a lot of the punt's length for times when a big return could be especially costly.
  14. I thought it was because his red nose drew too much attention from defenders. It made it hard for him to get open.
  15. Any kind of sudden death overtime is going to have flaws. Maybe the suggestion Buffalo has made could improve it. I haven't even looked at it, so I don't know. I'm firmly of the opinion that the Bills' proposal on overtime should have nothing to do with whether or not the Bills retain McDermott. Now, the late game choke of the Bills is certainly pertinent. It is what it is, poor strategy and poor execution both. I don't imagine any Bills fan was happy with what went down. On the other hand, I think letting go of McDermott over the final 13 seconds of regulation in that game would be the very pinnacle of stupidity. Why, when the wheels came off for the Bills at a crucial time in a crucial game? Because success can be an elusive prize in the NFL, and Sean McDermott has brought more success to the Bills than the team has experienced in a better part of a generation. I also believe that McDermott has a drive to get better and a willingness to learn from mistakes. There may come a time when the Bills should get rid of McDermott, but to me it looks like that day is years off.
  16. I have always believed that character matters, but I've also believed that character can change. Given Hunt's past, I would be exceedingly careful to check Hunt's off field behavior since the incident on video. I'd want to see not just a clean record, but evidence that he has acted in a way that reflects positive, healty relationships with women. Lacking that, I would pass.
  17. He's not going to become available, and if he did the cost might be a bit high, but I'd be fine with Darnold as the Bills' backup, far more so than Cam Newton, who was suggested in another thread.
  18. I'm leaning that way too. I think he has 3 down potential. At this point, I don't think Davis does. Overall, I love the research Kindig puts into his mock drafting. It makes his prognostications a lot more credible. He also gives me encouragement that the Bills could find some late round gems versus the mediocrity that abounds in a lot of full mock drafts.
  19. Tremaine Edmunds is clearly not the complete middle linebacker the Bills were hoping for and that McDermott had at Carolina (Luke Kueckly -that's the name I always have the most difficulty trying to spell.) The Bills have functioned well on defense in a lot of games, but there are exceptions. In any case, There are needs I think are far more acute given Edmunds is still under his rookie deal. In general, I think Cherpinsky is something of a hack, and I find his mock drafts are generally uninspired and fairly bad news for the Bills.
  20. I like this one a bit better than the OP's. There's no defensive line help. Of course any mock draft done at this point of the off season does not take into account what the Bills do in free agency.
  21. Most of the current Bills free agents they want to keep will be signed by March 16, though there could be a late signing or two.
  22. Corbett would be a modest savings versus Daryl Williams. Ogbah would be good, but on the pricey side. The others would be good value picks. I don't know that Beane would want to make the cap room to sign all of them.
  23. Yeah, for a good share of his career in Buffalo, the team's plans for him at 3 tech have been undercut by issues with Lotulelei at 1 tech. First, it was Star opting out during the "COVID season" and this past season it was Lotulelei's ineffectiveness after he got COVID. Also, 2021 was the first season that Phillips has begun to live up to his potential.
  24. NFL Draft Buzz has him running a 4.34. 4.5 is on the high end of estimates I've seen lately.
  25. I'm guessing he focused his pre-combine workouts on passing and not running. My son had the same sentiments. I kid him once in a while about that.
