Why did Marv not directly replace Ted Marchiabroda?
JohnNord replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah I had assumed that the fact that Kelly was calling the plays on offense was the reason why he never really found a replacement. Still it does make you wonder what would have happened if a fresh set of eyes at OC added some new wrinkles to the K-Gun. I’m actually surprised at how long Walt Corey lasted as DC. My guess is because the team went to 4 straight Super Bowls and features a lot of All-Pro’s with a tendency to make big plays at key moments. I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not. I do remember reading that Ralph was against giving coaches big contracts. He never did this when he owned the Bills though rumor was that he was willing to break out the checkbook for Shannahan and Cower years later. I remember when Rex Ryan was hired and added a huge coaching staff. The old beat reporters would comment how times had changed because Ralph would never allow this -
Gadget player and moving on from Isaiah McKenzie

I think it’s all about speed and quickness an d YAC. With a new OC and OL coach, I think the Bills could develop a better screw game. It’s shocking how many of Mahomes’ throws were at or behind the LOS as opposed to Allen’s -
I wouldn’t be shocked to see it but I don’t like it. It sounds fine until your favorite team is the one that misses out on the #1 pick. The one consolation as a fan of a terrible team was always a high draft pick. I’m sure they would set up the draft where the team with the worst record can finish no lower than 5 or whatever but still.

The other day, I couldn’t remember who the Bills offense coordinator during the SB era was after Ted Marchiabroda left to coach Indy. I looked it up only to find that there really wasn’t a direct replacement. Marv did two things - promoted running backs coach Elijah Pitts to Assistant HC and named Tom Bresnahan OC on top of duties as OL coach. So it wasn’t a situation like we just had in Buffalo where Dorsey was promoted to OC and then Joe Brady was hired to take his job as QB coach. Does anyone remember what went into this decision to not replace Marchiabroda with someone from the outside? Also what was the role of Elijah Pitts as Assistant HC? Finally I noticed that Bresnahan along with DC Walt Corey had position responsibilities on top of their jobs as coordinators. Was this something the Bills did to save money on coaches? Oddly enough Marchiabroda was only OC. This was the start of my fandom so I don’t remember much things like this…

Chiefs OC Eric Bienemy getting 2nd interview with Saints..

EB will be a terrible hire. Not sure how you can interview EB and Flores and end up thinking EB is the better choice -
Aaron Rodgers to the Titans ?? [Titans say "No"]
JohnNord replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall
Tannehill’s contract is a $38M cap hit for this season. Unless Rodgers plans to play for $0, I can’t see this happening -
I could care less about his pizza takes. I care more about his play on the field which is dreadful. Get rid of Mungo

Athletic article forecasting our cap casualties

I don’t know about Beasley. It would surprise me for coaches and FO to watch his tape and see that he’s lost a step and is less effective versus man. Bills are likely to see a lot of zone next year. Do they still keep him? I’d like to keep Darryl Williams, but the problem is he’s playing guard and is paid as a right tackle. Still if the Bills can find a way to keep him, I wouldn’t mind The revisionist history with Teller is so annoying. He wasn’t the player he became when he was traded. Should the Bills hung onto him for one more season? Maybe. But it’s not as lopsided as it looks in retrospect. As far as Kelvin Benjamin, the Bills had no one at WR. They needed to do something and he was the best option. We all loved the move at the time. Beane probably paid a little too steep of a price for him. But it was a seller’s marker and he was going all in to break the playoff streak which he did. -
Vikings Oline coach Phil Rauscher (Twitter speculation)

Not sure what to think about this hire. I would have loved to have Michael Munchak because his OL’s are always good. -
Benjamin Albright who reports on the Broncos in Denver shared some reasons why EB has not been hired as HC. Everything from him own personal baggage, to issues coaching at Colorado, and recently the fact that Andy Reid OC’s have not fared well in the NFL as head coaches. Also said that Bieniemy doesn’t interview well and hasn’t left an impression during his interviews. I do wonder if coaching in Andy Reid’s shadow hurts him as well

This would be a huge hire
-
Or Belichick could have just been speculating like we all were once Joe Schoen was hired. Daboll has been rumored to NYG ever since they fired Joey Judge. That’s why I don’t think there’s any way Flores “wins” the case if it goes to court. But if he’s somehow able to get the NFL to change hiring practices it will be a huge victory. If you go for 4th down every opportunity you end up like Brandon Staley. Look at the stats for McDermott when it comes to 4th down. He has one of the highest percentages

I don’t know about that…they spent 2 picks last season who seem to have potential and the team doesn’t seem like they want to completely write off Cody Ford yet.

I think the Bills will be in a good spot again next season. Yes, there’s a new OC but Josh really seemed to be coming into his own as an elite passer last season. Josh isn’t Jared Goff or Carson Wentz. If you can’t get elite QB play, it really doesn’t matter who your OC is. Offense will be fine and I see Josh having a big year. Defense could be another story. They’ll certainly drop in rankings like most #1 defenses do. I see the DL being very much in question and the Bills will need to add a few new CB’s. Plus Tremaine Edmunds needs to step up which is very much question. I see the defense dropping but I’m hoping they can be more opportunistic and make the big play when it matters like Cincinnati did last week
-
This is pure BS…. I haven’t seen any credible sources report this and it’s been almost 2 weeks since the season ended for Buffalo. These moves would’ve been made already

Brian Flores suing NFL, NY Giants, Dolphins, Broncos.

There’s definitely racism in hiring. I don’t think Flores is the best example though. Leslie Frazier or Eric Bienemey would be better examples -
Can Our D Become More Versatile in 2022? If So, How?
JohnNord replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
2 things that Cincinnati did that the Bills are unable to do: Get good play from their ends - not just in pressure but also containment. Have corners that bump and run with the Kansas City WR’s and yeah replacing Edmunds for a linebacker that actually makes plays would be a good move too. Not gonna happen. Playing well against a good QB would be nice too Except the fact that you get nothing from AJE Levi Wallace has 2 INT on the season…he’s a playmaker -
Make it happen McDermott
-
I disagree… there are many Native Americans both in Kansas City and beyond that find the teams depictions to be offensive. It might not offend you, but it does actually offend some people of that ancestry. Curious…but what generation did you grow up in?

Why do I think they don’t want representation? I don’t know - maybe because they’ve said so in national media outlets? https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/equality/537542-on-eve-of-super-bowl-native-americans-boo-the-kansas-city?amp https://amp.usatoday.com/amp/6593894001

Don't be surprised if Josh Allen has a bumpy 2022
JohnNord replied to beebe's topic in The Stadium Wall
Remember the “Josh Allen Will regress” narratives in 2020 and 2021? As far as Josh getting the “Mahomes treatment,” it seems like that already happened. The Bills struggled with that early in the season. What changes? A more efficient running game and the short passing game. You have to think this only gets better next year. I have a feeling 2022 will be Josh’s best season -
In a time when sports teams and culture in general is becoming more sensitive toward stereotypical names and imagery around indigenous people, Im shocked that Kansas City can still do their pre-game drum ceremony and the tomahawk chop. Not to mention the fact that fans are dressed like native Americans chiefs. For the life one me, I can’t figure out how this is acceptable. It’s one thing to say that a name like “Chief” or “Brave” is a tribute…it’s another to essentially parody aspects of their culture.
-
It’s possible… but I would not be shocked to see Buffalo at Kansas City. They could also give us a LAR vs. SF rematch
-
I’d be fine..like I said, most fans and media really have no idea how a playcaller will do. We can guess but won’t really have an idea until we get into the season. If you look at Daboll’s past you could say he was an uninspired hire as OC. I remember everyone cited his run to pass ratio as evidence why he was going to ground and pound. Didn’t happen. So we have no idea…. I think many of use prefer Dorsey or Hall just because we know them
-
Honestly when it comes to coordinators, especially those calling plays for the first time, no one has any idea how they will be. I’m going with Ken Dorsey only because it appears Josh wanted him as OC. I would also like Chad Hall for no other reason than the fact both coaches and players seem to love him and he’s known for his work ethic. No clue about him calling plays. I don’t want Edgar Bennett…I would give Tee Martin a shot because he’s pass oriented
