Better cost less than Smoke.

Meh, for the one or two times a year that the booming punt is a huge advantage vs the much more likely scenario of wanting to pin a team, this seems fair. Punting average doesn’t mean ***** honestly, either you can play in the NFL or not, best punt to best punt might be 5 yards different, but positioning it is everything, Bojo was coming along in that, but if it’s a big money thing, I get it.

It looks like Bills Management thinks it is the RBs.

I know where you are coming from on this, my disagreement comes in that a better back wouldn’t have stopped some negative plays. A guy with size to shed a blocker at a stand still like Henry does (or even Josh Allen does for that matter) or a guy who has that crazy wiggle like Shady, Hill, etc can all be valuable in those situations, often turning negative yards to something slightly positive or just even. That can be huge. You can watch instances where Brady drops back and sees it coming, literally just falls down, Allen never does that (sometimes he should), and he USUALLY makes something of it, even if it’s just avoiding a 5-7 yard loss. Shady used to be able to just flip his hips and the defender wound up on the ground, it was comical, other times he would do the dance and not go forward thing when there wasn’t a hole he liked, his weakness for sure. So to my point, if you stuck a top 10 type back in the backfield, I think the negative plays would go away (look at Gore, nothing there, always got something), and the bigger plays could happen as the game drives on, Henry DOMINATES late in games and in situations where the rush is coming and breaking one or two tackles leads to giant runs. Obviously, those guys are special, but the ones we have are not. -
Damn, that seems really reasonable for a top talent. Really not happy seeing him in the division, much less the Pats.

Bills not tendering Levi Wallace; have offered a contract

Smokescreen! Make teams think you want him so little you won’t even tender him, then resign him cheaper. Pure brilliance. -
Bills a rumored suitor for Kareem Hunt trade
DCofNC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’d be for sending DS and a 5th to Cleveland for him and if they want to unload Njoku too, even better, let’s make something work, maybe our 3rd for their 4th or something of the nature. They get a cheap compliment back, we get a starter, hopefully Moss is back at full strength as a solid back up. -
It looks like Bills Management thinks it is the RBs.
DCofNC replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The front office isn’t blind. Singletary is not a threat to break anything, Moss got broke at the end of last year, so his explosiveness may not be there at all. The position needs an upgrade, they would not have spent another 3rd round pick on a back if they thought DS was the real deal. I think they did ok with Miss, but time will tell. That said, a real, quality, back is an upgrade. I expect a signing or another relatively high pick to be spent on a back field weapon. Not necessarily a pure RB, but somebody that puts D’s on edge a little. Be it Etienne, or somebody else, more speed, hands and ideally power are needed. -
So you just assume a 5’7” guy who jumps 1.5” higher than a guy who is 5’10”, has a better “catch radius”? Must be some common core math going on there. If Etienne is going to be used more as a hybrid player than a pure RB, I’m all for taking him. Playmakers are playmakers, I don’t really care how they get it done. Tyreek Hill isn’t a pure WR either, but he sure makes a lot of difference. If they see him a just a RB who can catch, meh, not going there.

There are going to be a handful of vets out there that will come in at a lower price point, Sanders would not be my target. Whoever comes in is going to have to be comfortable in their skin and KNOW they are a number 2. Diggs is going to get the most looks, period. Whoever else comes in is going to have to be ok with that. This is why I like a Samuel or maybe Stills, honestly, I would have worked to keep Brown at a discount, but whatever. I do find it odd that Brown said they never even called him.

Roberts is a nice player to have on the roster, more ideally, he would offer more in the actually offense, but how much do you want to rely on a guy as a WR when he’s always the one getting set up for the biggest hit in football? I kinda like the fact he isn’t a key contributor at another position. We can always run Hyde out there , etc, but it’s a big risk, every time.

If Star is going to retire, a big IF for sure, they could get creative in this and work the cap a little, I believe. Take his base salary of $4.5M this year and convert it to signing bonus. That pays him and he goes away, he loses $500k for roster and work out this year, which goes back to the Bills. So that makes his (pro rated) signing bonus from $7.8M left towards the cap and makes it $12.3M. You designate him a post June 1 cut, spreading the cap hit out over the next 2 years and you get a cap hit of $6.15M this year in dead cap. Assuming he’s not a completely horrible person, maybe, just maybe, he agrees to concede his guaranteed salary for 2022 of $2.5M and you carry that goes away. If not, the hit next year sucks too. So there’s ways to make it work, but either he is going to be here and be a $7.6M cap hit or AT BEST he goes away for a little over $6M dead cap. it’s not a good spot for the Bills to be in, but the contract was a terrible one when they signed it, so no feeling bad for them when they have to deal with it.

DB is a “need”, but DL is a hole, I’d prefer some pass rush.

Mahomes restructures, opens up 17 million in cap space

That’s just kicking the problem down the road, but their window is now, might as well. -
Any interest in Saquon Barkley?
DCofNC replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’d love to have Barkley, but the big thing, as has been pointed out, you can’t give up a 2nd rounder and then have to pay him what amounts to the rest of your cap space. Might as well go after Jones from GB if you want to spend a lot. -
Would not be shocked if it happened with Addison either. He had a few glimpses of his old production early in the year and fell off hard. His overall number is way too high for what he put on tape. I wouldn’t mind seeing him as a rotational guy, but I don’t want to see him as a starter. It would be great if AJE steps up.

That’s a major issue in all of society, but I’ll leave it to that. I guess we have to remember the NFL is an entertainment industry and being in it will yield a lot of scrutiny

Breaking: Daryl Williams signs 3 year extension
DCofNC replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice, eager to see how they structured this, but good to have the T’s locked down, if Ford can come in and do some run blocking at Guard beside him, the run game might finally open up. Looks like the big spending is probably done, barring a major shuffle on The DL, going to be hard to pay for Mongo it looks like, probably will be elsewhere next year. I’m a bit disappointed with that, honestly would have preferred for Morse to be the one on the move, but he is certainly a very good player, so it’s not the worst thing. -
It’s all about the cap hit and dead cap potential, they loaded the cap hit into the front part of the deal by guaranteeing salary for 21 and 22, paid a reasonable signing bonus to him, basically this is in effect a 2 year deal for the Bills, there’s nothing guaranteed in the last 2 seasons. That is by definition, front loaded. Nobody cares about the years he will never see if injuries become a real issue. He’s here for 2 years, after that, ball is in the Bills court. As a post June 1 cut he’s dead cap of 1.75M as of 2024 and 2025

Cam is a flashy personality at the biggest position in sports, he’s going to have a lot of haters. I think some of the attitude perceptions comes from not telling Carolina he was hurt and then basically running the organization over later about it all. I don’t know what he’s actually like, but he’s more personality than most guys out there. Last year (and the year before) he sucked. He’s really only had the one truly great season and the rest hasn’t been much. I don’t know if he’s done or not, but if last year was any indication, I wouldn’t invest in him, 1 year, low/no guarantees, sure. Beyond that, no thanks. At this point, I’d take Taysom Hill first, if I was dead set on a bruising, non-traditional type of QB. Cam was never an elite passer, but his athletic abilities, combined with size, strength and relative speed made him really tough to deal with. He’s similar to Lamar Jackson, in the right situation, they are a nightmare. They are both former MVPs who showed they can get it done, but nobody is ever going to fear them as pure pocket passers. Prior to last year, Allen was in the same boat, as a matter of fact, I was hoping he could reach the good version of Cam. That’s no longer the goal for JA obviously. If they get a healthy Cam, who can actually throw again, combined with his other abilities, great move. If they get last year’s version, I’m happy for them.😜

Mariota was a contributor to an anemic offense for sure, but he’s got all the skills to be really good in the right situation. Biggest question is does he have the killer instinct? I’d say, not presently. That said, him vs this version of Cam? I’m taking Mariota.
-
I’d be way more concerned about Mariota than Cam.
-
It’s got to be a crazy incentive laden deal, no freaking way are they paying him that much after the garbage season he put up last year. In ALL seriousness, I would take Tyrod first. I’d imagine it being something to the extent of a small signing bonus and non-guaranteed base with some simple bonuses of starts, yards, TDs etc. If they cut him in camp, just the signing bonus fail.

Ju Ju smith tells Pittsburgh he won’t be coming back
DCofNC replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would love to have him, he would be fantastic here, but the cost is going to be tough to make work. -
I agree AJE gets a pass for now, I’m not seeing a top 10 pick in EO, but you summed it up perfectly.
